They really didn't mention any graphical improvements except simple explosions Changing the code (AI routines and other routines )has a great effect on performance than graphics.

Froggy, I know your swamped but if you have time I was curious if you agree with this writer. Stardock is mentioned very briefly in this article. It just seems that this author is very negative about the success of Indie games because of costs etc. He also seems to skip over the that ID has done Quake, or the success of JoWood, Sharpnel games or other indie ventures. I do agree that it seems hard for indies. I miss SimTex and Infocom. But I think if you put out a good p

Hey Psycho, what are you like six? Ooo, what an email. I'm sure Stardock is shaking in their boots. Ooooo. Since Froggy has much better things to do that to lower himself to your level, which is so far down that you can tell how hot the core is, I'd reply to you so your not so lonely because you obviously are seeking attention. So Psycho please enlight us on your accomplishments to the world since you say Stardock is talentless. What games have you wrote? Please let's hear y

I really don't find your real world examples to be accurate except that I agree that like your tank commander if you have a huge tech edge you win. Your right sensors and speed but just getting to a spot kick doesn't mean you win a battle. Your assuming since your moving into a space than you get the first attack. Yet, everyone can see you coming. The only thing speed does in real life is negate how much build up the defense can have. Look if we are even in tech, I see y

This has been talked about before. In the past, it was thought as a feature. It was a way to level the game more in the Metaverse games. Meaning, a big vote is coming up and you save before it. You don't like how the vote is resolved and you reload to change it. Or your invading and you save before, than you reload if it didn't go your way. So this was a little penaly, since these games are recorded and all. Yes, it does penalize people who don't have as much free time as other

Ascendancy - I own it and was never a big fan (probably AI). I do remember why I brought it though. I think PC Gamer gave it a 95 rating before it was ont the shelf. The writer praised it. Than the game came out and Computer Gaming World and the rest gave it about a 60. Turns out the PC Gamer writer was writing the strategy book for the game. Swears he wasn't tooting his own horn. I liked Reach for the Stars.

I thought it also depended on planet PQ or size. 25 billion on class 10 planet is different than 25 billion on a large class 25 planet.

Congrats Carielf I think people are actually missing the point. While I totally agree someone should get praise for their merits, which Cari certainly deserves, she also had to travel a different path. Think of it this way guys - what if you joined a sewing club? You would be the only guy there. Now, there is nothing wrong with sewing but guys don't go into that field so your b

The game works without the patch Gook so saying "I dare anyone to read the manual before popping in the game" holds no weight. You can pop the game in and play it. Period. You don't need Internet connection. Every game I ever had patched takes an Internet connection so you bashing Stardock on this is very amusing. Why don't you name me a game that you didn't need Internet connection to update? Yes, they dropped the ball on a response. 65 hours since your original req

Lokiju and Zedt - the no production on a turn isn't a bug. It's a feature. My understanding it's only for Metaverse games. Why you ask? Because it stops a form of cheating. Think - you save before a turn you go to war but you were unprepared that turn. You reload. Or you don't lik how the vote in the UP goes so you reload. Since, people are posting scores you don't want cheating of any type. I agree it can be a pain. Just don't play metaverse games than if it

So there is a leak. I have had to increase the virtual memory even with a good video card (Radeon 9800 Pro). This game does hit the hard drive hard at large maps. When I exit my computer is always saying Virtual memory is low. Looking forward to the fix. Thanks.

I have the 9800 PRO with 128 MB and only have had a few problems with GalCiv 2 (With either old or new drivers) I'm going to be different here and say yes GalCiv2 killed your card...well maybe a better way to say it is to have finished it off. Your card was probably on it's last legs. GalCiv2 asked it to preform a function and that was it. Any other software could have caused it at that time too. It was just it's time to go. Give it a proper burial.

Question 1 - why is this an oversight? You want to know where the computer is moving turn by turn and how long it's going to take. So you want to know the plans of your enemy. Anything else? In other games, do we know what people are going to do on their turn? No. It adds spice to the game. Sure, I think with high spying maybe this should be involved but low spying no (Troop movement, ship movements and techs are greatly protected in real life) Question 2 - this would be handly

I'm still researching the Universal Translator so I can't understand all of the original post but - 1) Graphics : while no-one will say the graphics are breathing real. They are clean, crisp and not hard on the eyes to look at. This is probably someone who would have bashed Civ II because it's graphics were bad instead of seeing how good the game is. For me, the graphics could be X's and O's as long as the the goods are under the hood.<b

Orbital Gun - this has been talked in the Starbase threads. Distances are way to get. Your talking light years at the minium. Minefields are slightly more belivable because but space is huge. That would be vastly expensive. Border control - again your think on earth terms. Your thinking that you can build a fence or something. That's not how space works. (Even 2 D space like Galciv2). Space is again huge. It would be like saying that

While I generally agree that displaying beakers would make the game easier, it's all prospective. Take your mathematics vs horseback riding - really it comes down to what you need at the time. What is your game plan? So horseback riding cost 500 but you don't need an army are you still going to research it? As for your good or bad deal - all's all relative isn't it. You decide if your getting a good or bad deal. You have to dec

I've had this event to but my race didn't fade away. In fact, it finished 2nd in the game (If you call being the last one AI wiped out second). I think when this event occurs, in general all races attack them. My game was different because this race had a lot of alliances (Plus everyone hated me).

7 Replies 5,778 Views

Yes, I've had this happen too. Not in debt (15K in the green) and for a turn or two everything goes to zero. For me it happened after I took some planets. It cleared up in a turn but still is slightly annoying.

Influence does work. I've had planets flip in my games., in fact I had about 5 last night. I wish I could give you a great reason why but I thought it also had to do with the enemy's approval. also, some races won't flip - 100 % loyal. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Barnacle Bill, You also forget Spaceward HO. Boy, I used to play Imperium Galacticum all the time on my Atari 800 XL. That game was great for it's time (So was some other SSI games). I was actually disappointed in MOO 2. I think they took a step backward in space battles.

35 Replies 16,059 Views

As MOO fan I do have to say that GC2 isn't MOO. GC2 is closer to Civ 2 or Alpha Centuri. The combat in GC2 is very simple. Ship designs, while making a ship to look what you want is great there isn't really much choice in to what to put on it. GC2 is a empire builder with combat a much further second. The closest game I played is Space Empires IV (5 is in work). Tons of customs choices, and you can mod just about anything. T

How can you blame Stardock for not releasing a patch especially with all the beta problems? Your right they made a mistake. They said that the patch would be out. Next time, they should just leave us in the blind. I'm (as many others here have stated) glad they haven't release 4 patches at present (the betas). The original poster has obviously never written a huge program and had to debug it.

Maybe I read it wrong but in one of my games where I leaned toward good, chosing Evil would have costed 10,000. I've never been evil so I can't say which is better.

Update - Ok, updated drivers but I know that's not the problem. Here's what happened. I started a Metaverse game. About 10 turns in, I decided to start a new game. I went to the main menu and started a new Metaverse game. The new game crashed right away. It seems like it didn't stop the old game. Here's the debug file - Debug Message: Version v1.1 BETA-3A last updated on: Mon Apr 10 17:03:06 2006<br/
