Star Trek Supremacy is a 4x space strategy game being developed by Mike Strobel. It is a Non-commercial Open Source project that will be made available for free to the public. The game is not licensed by the Star Trek franchise, it is a title being developed by an independent developer as an hobby. Supremacy picks up from the classic Microprose title<a title="Star Trek BOTF" href="http://e
Thanks a lot from an old MOO II fan. Its on my maybe list ( I am hooked on Kings Bounty Armored Princess now).
You're welcome joasoze from an MOO2 fan to another :) The game you mention seems to be a rather good RPG indeed, judging from what you say and some good reviews out there. I'm not much in RPGs lately, more in good classic strategy, you know Civ4, SOTS and now Armada 2526.
@adamsolo Thank you for the review. I have decided not to buy the game, but play Sins and homeworld instead. Have fun though.
Your avatar says it all :) The Homeworld series was really a blast! So I guess that you are more into the RTS part of space strategy games right? Armada 2526 is more for people that played Master of Orion 1, 2, Space Empires, Star Trek BOTF and the Galactic Civilizations series, i.e. the
Hi guys! I was also curious to try out Armada 2526 but as many of you pointed out already there are not yet a great deal of reviews out there (no gamespot review, gamespy, etc ...) So I decided to make my own Armada 2526 Review , well its rather a First Impressions. Its not a full review yet since I'm only playing the game for 2 days
MOO2 endgame is more like starting to build ships everywhere (huge queues), setting up some automatic rally points and then just having to move huge armadas with 1 click.
I completelly agree. This was one of MOO2 shortcomings in my opinion. The game was extremelly fun to play in all phases except in the eXtermination phase (late game). I remember that at some point in the game we knew that victory was certain and that it w
So what makes a good 4x space game economy model? I invite you to read my latest article: "What makes a good 4x space game economy model? " at SpaceSector.com [www.spacesector.com]. Let me know your opinion here or in the blog forum as you prefer. Cheers Adam Solo http://www.spacesector.com
Many of you guys may be already be familiarized with a new 4x space strategy game currently under development named Aphelion: Pheonix Rising . I got in contact with Brad Ottoson, main Developer of this promising looking game and we made an <a title="Brad Ottoson's Interview" href="http://www.spacesector.com/blog/2009/11/interview-with-brad-ottoson-aphelion-phoenix-rising-main-developer/" target="_bl
This Infinity Universe game looks interesting.. The 4x MMO games I played so far are: Astro Empires, Cosmic Supremacy and OGame. OGame (web-based MMO) is too simple and dry for my taste. Astro Empires is also a web-based MMO but has more substance. Cosmic Supremacy is a light weight client
Normally when we think of a typical space strategy game we imagine it to be PC turn-based single player, especially if we’re talking about 4x games. What if this is about to change? I decided to write this post to share with you my experiences playing space and non-space Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games, check out my blog post here:
Sword of the Stars came pretty close, IMO, to MOO2. I regard it as something of a spiritual successor.
In my opinion Sword of the Stars may be closer to the MOO1 original than MOO2 (some degree of dynamic research, no deep colony management besides moving around some sliders). GalCiv2 is perhaps much closer to MOO2 due to detailed colony building however you don't have tactical combat in GalCiv2 nor individual production allo
Released in 1996 by Microprose, Master of Orion 2 Battle at Antares is undoubtably considered the reference for 4x space strategy games. But what made this game so popular that after 13 years of game design innovation, better computer resources and way better available graphics no space strategy game seems to be able to surpass MOO2 success? I invite you to read my post about MOO2 success at <a title="Master of Orion 2 Memories" href="http://www.spacesector.com/blog/2009/08/master-of-ori
Hey! I made an appearance in the interview! Albeit for holding unoriginal views.
In my opinion you did a very good point and personally I also feel a bit that way. A MOO2 remake with better graphics, better AI and a few enhancements here and there could result in a very strong game sequel. The poll in SpaceSector.com "What's your favorite space strategy game of all time", with 62 votes by now, reinforces that MOO2 is the referen
The freeorion game is still in alpha stage (version 0.3 on a roadmap to 1.0) with many of its features still in development, so in order to have some more information I contacted freeorion and arranged for an interview with freeorion’s Programming Lead: Zach Lain I thought this could be of interest to you guys :) Enjoy the interview I did at <a title="SpaceSector" href="http://www.spacesector.com/blog/2009/
In gamepot they give it 7.4. From what I catched from the review the game has less micromanagement than more recent games, simple economy sliders like in Master of Orion I, real time combat with some user control (with some glitches), good AI and good 3D graphics. Gamespot review The Good: Sleek, streamlined space strategy surprising amount of depth with little micromanagement cinematic space battles between fle
I didn't played yet Sword of the Stars. Do you recommend it? Any revolutionary concepts? How about AI, Graphics, Combat (ground and space), Tech trees ...
Boy I really hope they make new StarWars flight simulators. I may have broken one or two mice playing these games [e digicons][/e] I don't remember why but I never managed to use the joystick, it didn't fealt right ... and it had much less shooting precision. XWING and TIE Fighter had the atmosphere, the gameplay, the story and solid missions. Happy days. [blog]: Space Stra
My blog is about space strategy gaming in general and today I wrote an article about the 4x genre, the 4x definition and links to good lists of 4x games. Care to drop by and comment? ---------- [ blog ]: Space Strategy Games Sector - Adam Solo
I'l very pleased you liked my blog wilebill :) Yes, the time frame you mention for this project start (right after the MOO3 release) seems to match with the first sign of activity I can tell by their forums. Let's hope they make it to the end! (I have a good feeling about it) I've talked with many people regarding space strategy gaming lately and what many seem to really want next is to be able to play MOO2 ... but with better graphics and better AI :)
I really like the
While doing some research on the latest news about space strategy games under development I came across with the FreeOrion project. FreeOrion is an open-source project which goal is to build a turn based 4x space strategy game. The entire project is community-centered were people that share the common motivation are invited to contribute to build the game in many ways, some as programmers, others as conceptu
Something must be done however because in late games things get really too complicated with so much stuff to do. I think the key areas to improve are "better level of Automation" and "higher level of Abstraction". These are surelly needed on late games. With the right level of automation where local governors could handle the job for particular galaxy sectors it could be possible for the player to keep handling fleet management because now you have reduced your area of intervention. I recently found Ogame, a free browser based massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) of space strategy (4x style). If you’re not familiar (yet) with these types of games basically you just need an internet connection and a browser and you are all set to start playing. Playing Ogame is like a breath of fresh air brought to the space strategy 4x gaming experience since it offers the possibility to play anywhere I have an internet connection while offering a rich and free mul
