I play mostly larger universes with very slow technology development (no technology victory) in my games, so that will give some insight into my choices. [/quote] I either specialise in interceptor groups, two ships with high speed and defence, that can take out multiple smaller or similar sized ships though I tend to lose one ship to larger cruiser fleets if they arrive too early and I haven't built up enough defence

I think the two box selection is a great idea! You are after all still paying for the trait. I find my custom races to be crippled compared to some of the bonuses of the pre-mades. With a few notable exceptions there is nothing you can select that another race doesn't already have as a bonus. Even without the extra points it would be nice to level things off a bit!

Ha! YES!!!! Thanks for the advice guys! Took the offensive straight into their territory trashed my through Yor space and into Terran space building a forward point right in their back yard. With the Terran attacks taken care of my forces were free to sweep across the Yor's western boundaries and relieve my van guard.

The main problem is that I'm positioned reasonably central on the map and the Yor pretty much surround my northern border zones, I have a defensive ring that holds them off quite nicely but it's the Terrans coming from the west that are a problem! They seem to just swamp across my entire western border line and with the majority of my resources going to fend off the Yor, the Terrans are basically grinding down my fleets in the area!
