Do you think a system restore from a few months ago when everything was working fine may help? I've never done a restore before. Maybe worth a try right? Whaddya think?

I appreciate your reply, but I've checked and checked again for all of the latest graphics drivers. What's funny is that all of my games have slowed down as of late. Is it possible that a laptop can be used too much for gaming and the graphics card just gets "tired"? I know laptops aren't made for gaming, but I've used mine over the past 2 years for just that. It is very strange that everything has just been running slower over the past month when it was all working fine before that. When I say

Thanks! I will paste the contents of this file when I get home.
For the past year or so GalCiv2 has been running great on my laptop (up until a month or so ago). The laptop is a couple of years old now. I can't for the life of me figure out why my system has been running Dark Avatar slow/choppy the last month or so. I've played around with different NVIDIA drivers and ran all kinds of test on my system. I've heard of people pasting some sort of debug.err file or something like that so the necessary individuals can take a look at what is going on with your sy
I just installed the Beta 4 also and I'm seeing those strange skewed/stretched graphics. As soon as I uninstall Beta 4 everything looks fine again. Very strange indeed!
I just installed the latest beta (4) and tried running it. I am seeing all kinds of graphical issues. I had no problems at all with the DA 1.5 X3 release. How do I get back to that release? Thanks!
I will try check/try both suggestions. Thanks! It is just strange that I've never had any trouble up until now.
For some reason none of the Beta's for 1.6 are showing up for me in Stardock. I have had no problems downloading updates in the past. In fact, I have done it many times using Stardock. Is there something I can try so I can download the latest Beta files? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time!
Now I only have an NVIDIA 64mb video card If that card is a GeForce 4 MX or 4 Go or other card not compliant with at least DirectX8 (The game's stated minimum requirement is a DX9 card, FYI), then that's the reason. These cards cannot properly render the textures on the ships, resulting in all of them being flat-shaded regardless of anything else you do. You can try the workaround described in reply #2 of <A href="https:
Anyone? ............Bueller? ............Bueller?
I do have an AMD processor in my laptop. I am looking forward to trying to run that 3D Analyzer that was suggested. It sounds like that might work.
Again, thanks for your replies! I only have a laptop. I cannot change graphics cards in it correct? If anyone knows how I can, please let me know. It is an HP zv5000us series. I think I'm stuck with what I got.
Actually, the minimum requirements state a 64MB graphics card. 128MB is the recommendation.
Thanks for your replies. It is an NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go (64M) card. I believe it does support Directx 9 requirements. Yep, I was playing DA for sure. I'll re-check the video options, but I'm sure they were set pretty high. The game plays great, I'm just missing the new eye-candy. Any more ideas will be appreciated. Thanks!
I just purchased the Gold Edition yesterday and loaded it last evening. I updated everything via Stardock. The game loads and seems to play fine with Dark Avatar installed. The only thing I'm disappointed in is that I do not see and graphics improvements with the ships and starbases. I saw the pictures on the website showing the differences in how the graphics should look with Dark Avatar but I am not seeing them. I still see the plain shiny surfaces. Now I only have an NVIDIA 64mb video card b
I just went out and purchased the Gold Edition with Dark Avatar on lunch (yipeeee for me!!!). My brother and I play a ton of Civ4 in hotseat mode and I would love to do the same in GalCiv2. I thought I remember reading something about a quasi-hotseat mode in GalCiv2. Does this option still exist with Dark Avatar loaded? If so, could someone please post specific step-by-step instructions on how to setup a game in this mode? Do you still have to create another shortcut and add "cheat" at the end o
I currently am running 1.40X GalCiv2. I have not purchased Dark Avatar yet. I tried installing 1.50, but the game stopped working. I couldn't even get to the main menu. The game runs fine with 1.40X loaded. When I downloaded 1.50 through Stardock Central my game stopped working. I figured maybe this version was for Dark Avatar. Are my assumptions correct? Am I doing something wrong? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks for your time!
Is there really a $10.00 rebate with the Gold Edition in stores? Is it confirmed that you can't just buy the expansion at stores, just online?
Hello all! I am a casual GalCiv2 gamer. I love the game and do think that it is one of the best turn-based strategy games ever made. I am currenlty hooked on World of Warcraft though. That friggin' game consumes most of my time. I do like to fire up a good GalCiv2 game once in a while though. Should I make the plunge for Dark Avatar? Can I purchase just Dark Avatar in the stores, or do you have to download it? I am only seeing the Gold Edition in the stores. I'd like some reasons why I should ma
Thanks for your replies! I will try running setup.exe again and give it time to run. I believe I did stop it when it seemed to get hung up. I'll get back to you when I get a chance to try it.
I did try double-clicking on the setup.exe file but it just hung there doing nothing.
What exactly did you do to make it work? I am having the same problem. I cannot get Vista to install GalCiv2. I have put the disk in and out a few times also. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
I just got a new system with Windows Vista Home Edition installed. I want to install GalCiv2 on it. I can't even get the system to start the installation when I put the first install disk in. When I insert the first install disk I get an error saying that it cannot read the .exe file. I see the GalCiv2 logo, but I can't do anything. I tried loading it on my other machine with XP just to be sure that the disk wasn't damaged. It installed fine. Is there anything I can try to make this install on V
I came across a Class 26 planet last night while playing. I am currently sending a Colony ship towards it. I hope the Korx don't claim it before me! Anyways, I was curious as to how often these appear for others. Just Curious. Thanks!
