I think it's a good idea.

You could try the imperialism series if you can still find those games enywhere, they're a bit old now but i remember enjoying them a lot. Imperialism really has crappy graphics for todays standards but imperialism II is quite passable.
I sincerely am hoping that in the final release .you will have adressed the following minor problems that detract from my "fun factor"
#1 anomolies : agreed #2 race emergence: agreed #3 invasion tactics: not so much agreed. Imagine getting your planet being invaded often by the AI, it would not be fun seeing it reduced to an useless piece of rock, or half of the planetary improvements destroyed after each invasion attempt. You could use that to int
Only to learn that a few mega events occurred and someone else wins by another victory condition.
i just threw that in, i'm really going after the end-game report, and maybe to see which AI won the game after I already lost it.
That is good news. I have one small feature idea/request for a future patch after the TA gets finished, i don't know how hard it would be to implement and if anyone else likes it at all. I always liked the after-game report in Civilization where it graphically shows you how the game developed, you know what i'm talking about, when the world map is shown how it looked like, changing through the years. I would like to see that here too if it's not a complete waste of time. It doesn't
Boy do we have different tastes. O'Brien is one of the characters i dislike the most, right next to Troi, Tasha Yar and Wesley. My favorite episodes usually have Q in them or the Borg or in some lucky cases both. With TNG being the favorite series followed by TOS.
You also have to take production capabilities into account. So what if the AI lost 9/10 of the battles? That doesn't necessarily mean you never lost any ships in those battles. If AI can rebuild its fleets faster than they are getting destroyed, and you can't, then it's winning the war. I also wish the AI was better at handling strategic aspect of the wars. If it was something easy to program, I'm sure it would have been done ages ago by countless other games. Hopefully one day AI will a
Nice and easy to understand guide, thanks .
I really like this idea. But if you don't have an adequate military you're seen as an easy prey and would get attacked anyway and your protector with you, or the other way around. To solve the problem the party being protected should 'acquire' the military status of its protector. If the Drengin protect me, my military power should be seen as that of the Drengin, so the the AI knows that it is not attacking an defenseless prey. I don't know if i worded this correctly but i hope that you
Do you need to resist it? It's fun isn't? Yes it a great game, BUT i have exams right now and playing Galciv, as much as i'd like to, would not be a smart move on my part.
Fantastic read. I just love reading a good AAR like this one. Really nice, i can barely resist starting a new game of my own.
Poor patients . Like others said. Try something different if your original strategy doesn't work. I have no problem admitting I learned to play this game at lower settings, try that if nothing else helps.
26 as of this month. And I thought i was too old for playing games lol.
If left unchecked they COULD develop into a major threat. That is not a mega event anymore. Otherwise i like the idea.
More features is always good, so I'm all for it.
Yes the idea is absolutely fantastic, but I would still prefer to see these journals ingame also.
Will these journals be viewable ingame, like some sort of scoreboard, or will they be exported and viewed in like word, pdf or something. I still hope that we will some day get an 'offline metaverse', for those of us who mod our game.
I'd also like to keep track of scores of non-metaverse acceptable games (wich happens to be all of 'em actually).
GalcivII is by far the best 4x game ever, and i've played almost everything that came out in the last 20 years. And among those only a few of them come close to the level of long-term enjoyement they provide compared to galciv(Imperialism, AlphaCentauri). If it werent for good AI (I play on tough and above) I'd get bored very quickly, so AI is the most important part of this game for me (though the nice graphics don't hurt). As mentioned above, for a hardore player the AI can never be good
Nice idea indeed.
and regarding the UE, when a major gets eliminated, maybe the strongest minor could get it's place in the UE thusly officialy becoming major, maybe even eliminating it's disadvantages.
I also think minors should have the chance to become a major player if they play it right, they should be able to expand, conquer (Just take a look at the USA - used to be just a colony, today the only real superpower), but they should be at a disadvantage compared to the majors in some points, doesn't really matter how it is done to me. As it is now minors are pointles(but i still like to have them), i always just conquer them if they are near, and I don't like either the way t
When i chose to follow a cartain weapons technology path, it would be nice if others wouldn't be shown anymore, i'd like to have the ability to show or not to show those technologies in the technology tree (right click or something), i don't want to watch armor tech throughout my game if i have long specialized in shields, specially as those lowcost tech are at the beginning of the list and it ads a bit more of scrollong down the list (all in all just
