Thanks, but I'm obviously too stupid to be playing this game. I colonize the planet nearest my homeworld and then, by the time I have another colony ship built, my ally has every other habitable planet colonized. Any ships I throw at the Drengin are immediately destroyed. So, am I supposed to be researching endlessly or what? Roughly, how many turns should it take to beat the first mission?

I've started the Dread Lords campaign. After a couple turns, the Altarians come over and take the only other colonizable planet on the map. So, is the whole first mission supposed to be me building up my single planet while waiting on .... what? The Altarians taking out the Drengin?
