I know how to stretch the game: Stretch the map out. Galaxies are really big. Space is big. Space between stars is huge. Obviously a completely realistic map would be empty except for the Earth and moon, but c'mon, it looks so goofy having stars that close together, not to mention almost equally large planets right next to them. I had read somewhere that a developer didn't want to go beyond 16x16 or whatever "Gigantic" is, due to number-crunching slow-down, but would 32x32/64x64 slo

"You can also explore the GC2Types and other XML data. I plan on explanding this to allow editing also; I need to get a better grasp on how the modding directory and how the game uses files in the mod directory so I can tie it all together nicely" Tell me about it. I still haven't got it down very well, except to just make backups and rewrite the originals in the Data/English folder. Works great with GC2Types.xml, trying to figure out Raceco
also, make sure you have sex. The devs made it so no sex = no babies.
Oh, one more thing before I sink too deep into nerdery: Other races start off with better skills/techs in certain areas. Feel free to open the XMLs in Notepad and play God. I've done great things with the ship config, but can't seem to get the same results with the races....
I mean, I agree with MoAus, NOT Guderian. I'd say buy a couple factories right away on your home planet and as many colony ships as you can until you reach $0 (or $1000, 2000, etc, whatever buffer you prefer - I usually leave a couple grand for buying the first factories on the better of my newly colonized planets, and 1 or 2 constructor ships just to make sure I can claim a few resource modules, or whatever they're called). As with most no
I definitely agree. When I can get this game to work, I've noticed a HUGE difference between playing on normal and the lesser difficulty levels! Normal means I'm a bumblef*ck moron of a civilization with a mighty fleet of 1 or 2 small Laser II fighters and a possibly-even-shielded starbase, while everyone else fights mighty battles over who gets to surround Earth with influence starbases. While any lesser difficulty level means everyone else is my bee-
I have gotten the game to work on and off since the first flawless time,, but still only initializaes 1/20 attempts, often with many restarts in between. I definitely think the problem is resolution related. That is, I think the game is waaaay to finicky about what what resolution it wants to start in, and has trouble automatically switching between resolutions, after which it gives up. Or something like that. Yes I'm running the latest version, the de

yes, I agree. I was too harsh. However, since most people don't KNOW that their games are putting important files there, it can be annoying...
no, there is definitely something very fishy going on with the resolution necessary to run the game. Take a look at some of the other posts regarding resolution. Cool that it still works for you, though!
yes, another game that makes the unfortunate and Microsoft-esque decision to create an entirely seperate folder in the stupid-*ss "My Games" folder. I just love copying my mods and preferences back and forth after I figure out which folder the game prefers to find them in (CivIV users feel free to chip in here).
be careful what you wish for.... this game is VERY particular about resolutions, video settings, amongst other things. seems like many people have few troubles, but a minority are having issues along these lines I'd say it's worth a shot, but you may have to end up waiting for a real patch with some of the rest of us...
well, crap. I had high hopes that this was causing both the constant failure of game initiation AND the less frequent in-game CTDs... haha, no. Ok, so I'm running (well, trying to) the game at variously 1280x1024, or 1024x768, both in-game (through prefs.ini) AND by changing my desktop. I've tried fullscreen AND windowed (through both prefs.ini AND changing target command). I've tried skip intro or not. I've re-downloaded and re-installed t
I strenuously object to the inability to rename stars. I thought you could do it in GCI and I know for sure you could in MOOII (yes, I used a swear word). I can't possibly see that as being a feature that the devs had to take out due to time/functionality. YOU GOTTA ADD IT: A) My custom race's home planet is invariably named something stupid, or out of character for the race (last game had Earth revolving around Cordelia , or something. C'mo
