In reading all the replies, I would have to agree that political and cultural boundaries are different things, but for the sake of programming and simplicity, and the way they play out in the game, the cultural borders would suffice quite nicely... I like the idea of having each planet have a "political" influence, but then you'd have all these polka-dots of politics all over the map that would be completely different from the "spheres of influence"... I have thought about posting exactly this.... Do you moonlight as a psychic??? I HATE that other races can just waltz in to my territory.
