Sorry for taking so lo long to reply but it seems that rolling back my drivers worked like a charm. Thanks a lot for the help.
Silpheed
I could try it out but GalCiv2 used to run just fine before I installed Dark Avatar. Oh well, I'll try to roll back my driver for my Radeon 9700 and see if that helps.
Well, I reinstalled and the crashing problem remains. I'm completly stumped right now. I even used the SmartExeption program but it didn't register anything after the crash.
Now I'm finally back at the computer. I now have a new problem, instead of having the earlier problem DA simply crashes randomly for me, dumping me into a desktop that's suddenly reduced in resolution. I've checked out my app and system logs and every time I've crashed it's a program called PerfNet that craps out apparently. On the System log it's WMI Performance Adaptor that has stopped working. I'm starting to feel that maybe I should reinstall the whole deal and start out fresh.
I'll check it out in the morning since it's getting pretty late in my part of the world but I can either post in this thread or shoot you a mail when I've had a chance to check it out.
When the research screen with the robot comes up, everything goes black except for a small square around my cursor which follows it around as the cursor moves. After a little while my computer freezes up completly. I hope that it's of some help.

I purchased Dark Avatar a couple of hours ago and it's really fun this far but I have a problem. Sometimes when the completed research screen pops up I get graphical errors and my computer freezes completely, forcing me to reboot the computer. What do you need to know in order to help me with this problem?
