That's what i meant for a possible "alternative" to the current color picker... **** **** The principles are almost the same; - A twelve (plus 4 in the center) swatches wheel serves as the basic clicker processing. - Values for each Race can be selected individually and transfered to the HTERI box as a "pre-defined" scheme. And, subsequently shipped to the wheel. -

Which reminds of a couple of request (maybe i wasn't clear enough, reading myself back - it certainly felt like it!) i've written up in the "game ideas" section (One, for an enhanced version of a color-picker thingy and the second, for a new Hexagons (variable in size and triangulated (assembled on principles based on contiguous areas invariable to some extent) to provide stuff like "mini-projects" locations, etc.) framework on planet instead of a 12x6 squared grid-like situation). I ma
With that post-title, i guess it maybe obvious to some that i have a preference for the DL default ship designs. Is there an easy way to transfer the previous "structure setup" of ships to the appropriate directories straight into a DA installation without messing up too many things around. Cuz, the S*_???.xml and other conceptual *ship.cfg files are (somehow) eluding my greatest analysis powers. Trying to figure this is an issue, having someone on SD-staff explain the e
Thanks -- again... from me!
Just do it! If only a single person who'd really enjoy the hard work from you, it is certainly worth the uploading/packaging time. The motto is quite simple; If you don't someone else will or might take away the "slot" - if you like. As an aside comment, i HAVE to share the following with you... I am actively modding two packs as of now and for the next weeks & months ahead. And so far, it's been great. I do make some progress while assembling the basic re-sourc
A single level of negatives in some categories would possibly mean the following variations to both the impression a player has about races and whatever influence they'd have within gameplay; - Courage; Brave or Shy (Do i read - Good & Evil alignments, indirectly!) - Research; ... or Dumb! Although, the slow option has the same effect. But, it isn't ---on--- the race definition screen to look at. - Social Production; ... or Strike. Workers negotiating a new barg
Peace Phoenix, - Yes, i gathered that much about customizable opponents and will actively use the option if & when necessary. Kryo, - That explains many things; Parties remain "undefined" via any external **config.xml file for each majors and, DA could stick to an optional/pre-defined one if i choose to. I should explore more to grasp the entire gameplay scope (huge amount of variables, i'd say!) before asking 'silly' questions. - It's reassuring to kno
Technically, the alt-tab situation you're suffering from would NOT be caused by the game itself at all. Even with these numbers; *** Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) Physical Memory: 3072MB RAM Page File: 415MB used, 4540MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS *** The afore mentioned core MS/OS clings to 'some' memory swapping locations --while-- you are (asynchronously) requiring a few tiny bytes of outside resources. Thus, a confl
The D/L of DA expansion went real smooth and the installation seem to be flawless. After "playing" a test game with a swift custom race, further below is the debug.err file that got recorded... if anyone from SD-staff notices something odd or obvious, just let me know. Some preambule-comments; -A- Felt a little slower (painstakingly weird might be a better word) than DA, and i had to adjust most textures settings (again!). But that's quite alright, i don't mind. Opti
Would that make sense to some degree? The multiple handicaps (events, losing election, customized "numbers") come from within play - afterwards, when your race's destiny has been sealed up. Say, for example, a custom race has been defined with a --Minus 5%-- slot to its Economy at the config process. While calibrating the points pool, also; since the maximum is TEN, some negative abilities would actually have their effect(s) compounded to the remaining points. Thus, creatin
Dunno if the following is a bug or if i screwed up things so that this happens, but heregoes anyway -- The starting conditions for all Major Races show that they're all a *defaulted* Federal party! On the selection reference screen only though. Once a game starts, they pick (it seems, at random) one from the "temporary" mod dir i've created to develop the CSH (Compendium of SuperHeroes) and the X-Worlds (X-Com/TfTd/Apocalypse, etc) MODS. Nevermind my memory, if i could recall when t
While exploring the xmls and available RaceImage* files, i couldn't help notice a minor race which used logo #23; The infamous Dread Lords themselves. But, digging deeper, i noticed they didn't declare a proper default image or even a Trade one. So, i went right in and started modding the stuff. Slapped Gauntlet's #1040 (Many thanks, btw... these are absolutely great!) as the main pic, named the leader Brad Wardell and dubbed the Homeworld - Stardock. I
A couple of comments about the way GC2 handles its color schemes; 1) The initialized default cyan for the interface is all good and nice, but do we also have an option somewhere to select our own? The Race appearances tab provides us with this feature within gameplay, indirectly. What i'd like is the ability to choose which booting framework colors i prefer; at random, all or any Races, as a general Video option line to select, or even in the prefs.ini file for editing.
The fragile balance is not in question. The only reason i made such a suggestion is that, in general, i feel the Minor are slightly annoying (or maybe, it's just that i don't have the mindset nor the gameplay experience yet to figure these things!). Sure, the xml defs can be altered. Sure, no colony ships won't ever allow these to expand and fight ME and MAJORS beyond their bottleneck. It simply is a matter of perception, i guess. The Universe is small, even to Minor ra
Ah, this makes sense. Alpha layers, even if saved within a 32b/png can actually corrupt via a faulty GIMP plugin or by means of improper pixelization by the dum head that i truly am... at times. The 'regular' 24b format doesn't pick up transparency (well, at least not in a pure reasoning i imply when i say, true Alpha channels), at all. We're talkin' software capacities, here. Photoshop does the trick, but i certainly can't afford it. So comes, the GIMP. Some default L
Lemme get this straight. - 128x128, png, 32b, one layer of transparency (correct this, masked color), graphics relevant to the Race. All checked. In some places (list of planets, for one) my custom "valid" image shows up with strange overlines that messes up with things. Have i missed something? I use Gimp and knows how (well, maybe not) to handle the process. Is it a GC local "bug"? I suspect an edge or row of pixels is conflicting with some internal GDI call.
Han891, Forget the above request, i just went to the board and logged on without a glitch. Strange though that i haven't received the second mail. It no longer matters. Now, off to better things like getting the ST mod and have it ready for the DA installation later next week or somethin'. Thanks.
What about mine? I already received the first eMail but have yet to see the "activation" one. I simply want (by curiosity or otherwise) to D/L your ST/mod since i'm in the process of designing my own pack of races and i wouldn't like to create conflict or discrepancies in the choice i'm planning to do. PS; Not that it matters soooo much, but i guess, all of us modders should agree on some sort of developing structure when it comes to put ID numbers on all our unique stuff. A
Engineering a good code takes vision, intelligence, almost mystical powers. Just look at the recent hype around "Crysis". Promising product from what i've seen and heard about everywhere in the gaming communities. BUT, is it that good of a software? Only time can answer the question. Once players have ran out of steam from playing hundreds of looping attempt at something they truly believe is great stuff. Cuz, that's what THEY want from their games, though.
Wouldn't that be nice to have as a DEFAULT option during a game setup phase? Lemme explain; -- It's all funny and all to witness incapacitated Minor Races just waiting to be invaded in their exclusive system but, the planet alone may be of interest to some major. -- They take up valuable assets for nothing else but a few transports and high-tech invasion forces. What if; -- In YOUR very own system you'd have a Minor planet to handle or to exploit by Allian
All done... The 29.95US$ money-order for a DA download later is in the mail. Following reception of a confirmation eMail, i will certainly show up here as fast as i can. Btw, i strongly believe this system of updating with valid serials and process of verification is a good idea. Gotta protect my investment, somehow. As an aside, i did some terrible things inadvertantly yesterday to some registry settings (i'm guessing that was the case) and had to re-install everything over pr
rls669, Straight bank transfer stuff gives me the creep! Wont go into details, but let's just say that recuperating money from a foreign business (bankrupt or somethin') proved to be completely useless. SD is far from getting there... sooo, i'll draft an absolutely legal money-order, stamp the envelope, and mail it to their coordinates -- plus, the waiting. Should be fun. Then, later on for some better Video-card shopping spree. That should keep me busy for awhile and away from
Would it be possibly to implement such a system, or is it tooooooo much to ask for? Mind you, i really DO understand the extensive updating to the core functions and multiple corrections to the main code routines. Here's my reasoning behind Hexagonal shapes for planet tiles; -- For every 9 squares, you'd get 7 hexas (even could fit the same amount inside a group of four 'contiguous'). -- Most images of improvements could easily fit those also but with small overlaps
Just imagine the nightmares, Boogly. No way i would consciously set-up a game like the above. It could mean the end of my fuzzy-brain - forever. I wouldn't be able to sleep for days on end. I'd even switch breakfeast for a tasty empty cup of coffee, me being too busy not to lift the butt from that chair. And with the low-mid-end PC i own and paid for, it would take forever to deploy anything away for about three sectors besides Homeworld-Planet X. Not counting much later turns progr
Duh - and i thought this post was about having REAL money problems! Hilarious. Cuz, ya know, if i had some of that i'd probably stack it all up against a brand-spanking-new TA expansion CD and certainly, a better Graphics-card than a stupidly annoying GEForce-4/MX4000 (bought that in April'06 for a mere 70CDN$ and a 35$ rebate from Staples!) so i could finally see the textures on ships. Playing DL without the DA add
