Also, I've run into occassions where the AI is rather reluctant to trade away their best techs. And will charge through the nose for many others as well. So unless your strategy takes into account always being behind the tech curve, this would likely be an ultimately futile strategy. In other words, if you are aiming for a military or (especially!) a technological victory, you need to do your own research, maybe trade for

Don't expect something like Mortal Combat fighting there, its RPG you know It's just the same dice rolls as usual, just served better Okay, fair enough. This game does sound like a real resource pig too, and as you say, it sounds like the graphics seem to be less than they shou
Nice review. I've been debating getting this (to bring to FOUR the games I'm curently playing, and there is still yet a fifth I want to pick up - just shoot me now), and this has been another nail in my coffin... I mean reason to pick up the game. Although the graphics requirements! YIKES! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles
Hmm. Game sounds interesting, but I don't like the notion of FPS style combat in my RPGs.
I was going to ignore this thread as a waste of time, but this asinine post was too much to pass on. I am a software developer too. I appreciate the challenges involved. But my way of dealing with these is to meet these challenges rather that slink back into my shell That is a very cheap shot. Not to mention complete cra
Yes, interesting analysis. Lifetime of Stardock Devs is surely limited. They wont live forever! Thats for sure! I read your interesting analysis here now roundabout the 25th time on this galciv2 board. I got it now. FYI: I heard there are also other areas where Stardock develops further projects. Reading your post I came to following conclusion: Stard
In response to spearthrower - SNORT! For the rest complaining about bugs that aren't. A 'BUG' is an error in the program, something not working the way it is supposed to. Legend has it that the name came from the old computers that filled entire rooms with vacuum tubes and mechanical thingees. Sometimes an actual insect
I admit I did the same thing with Homeworld, tried a ripped copy, went "Oh cool", and bought the full copy so I could get the movies and updates. I think most people who download games from warez never have any intention of purchasing them, so as Stardock has said, they didn't lose anything anyway. While those that do try it as a less than legal version of a demo, and do buy it are probably the minority, but still exist (obviously). <b
Actually he said they have better ethics than Starfarce , not that they have great ethics per se . Just better than StarForce, which is a pretty low bar to pass.
Well, that is one possibility. Aiming for the absolutely lowest common denominator. How wonderful.
The first half of the strip made sense, and then - as usual - they fixated on their usual 'humour'. Usually involving talking about penises. Are these guys compulsive masturbators, or what? Obviously I'm not a big fan of Penny Arcade, and never understood what makes them so 'wonderful'. I do support their charity though (the name of which just vacated my head without a forwarding address...) Oh yes, Child's
At a guess, check your spending. If your current balance (lower left on main screen) is green, you should be good. If its yellow, you are losing money. And if its red, you are in trouble. So check if you are into the negative fuinds in a bad way (-500 or more), I think that is when it goes red. If so, the game automatically stops all production until your debt is paid off. Sorry, you aren't allowed to deficit spend
I always use No CD cracks (at least used to when people made them). Not because I have pirated games, quite the contrary, all the games I've played for the past several years were quite legitimately mine, and I have the CDs safely in their cases and in storage. No, I use No CD cracks because if I want to play a game, I don't want to have to dig around to find the blasted CD, I want to be able to just click the shortcut and be away. My tastes tend to run in streaks, for a few days ga
Just read the features list for 1.1. And I have just one thing to say: We're not worthy! You guys are just, like, totally amazing! You spoil us. I know I'm going to be very depressed the next time I'm dealing with a dev who's basic response is usually "We released the game, it runs and doesn't CTD too much, what more do you want?" <br/
Ah, destroying planets. I remember that from my MOO2 days. When it became such a pain to conquer and hold their planets, and you certainly didn't want them picking them up or re-populating them behind you, you just BLOW THEM UP! That was a fun gun. Never did understand how a gun that could destroy a planet, couldn't blow up a reasonably tough super dreadnaught. Odd that.
Or be the Emperor's favourite horse, and you can become a senator as well. (It was never clear if Caligula was simply a nut, or was intentionally insulting the Senate when he did that)
Actually I have a second selfish reason for not wanting Stardock to bother with an MP enhancement. I want it to be clear that there is still a market it for SP games. If this game has NO element of MP in it at all, and is still successful, then maybe developers will decide that it is still worthwhile to make decent SP games. Whether there is also an MP element in them isn't important to me, but too many games sacrifice SP gameplay for MP, and I want the industry to real
A quick note about review sites. No, you should never take the opinion of just one reviewer, whether it be your buddy (unless you know his tastes match yours EXACTLY) or someone paid to do the job. Which is why I generally read various reviews. These same reviewers have generally been giving GC2 good reviews. And many of them have complained about a lack of MP as a flaw, costing the game a bit in the final score. Why, is it necessary? The pro MP crowd would say YES! But I thin
'The Planets' by Holst. The original space themed music. Which John Williams liberally plagiarised from when he did the music for the original Star Wars.
I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it I'm about to lose control and I think I like it I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it And I know, I know, I know, I know I know I want you (Next line for the song in this context is "to die horribly under the missiles of my AI's attack fleet" followed by maniacal laughter.)
but I don't see how lack of MP is an outright "flaw". Where did you pull that information?? I haven't seen any posts claiming this statement. That's one wild twisted assumption.......... wait I'm
Agree with Liz (Jeysie), and said something similar a few pages back. There is tons of stuff for the MP fans out there, why in heck do they begrudge the SP fans getting a decent game after such a long dry spell? Decent SP games are few and far between, its nice to finally get one. I know there are all those MP guys out there who say that MPis the ONLY way to play. Well, I disagree. Been there, done that, didn't enjoy the experience. Playing against random a-ha
HEROES!? We don't need no steenkin' HEROES! (no I'm not contibuting to the discussion, I'm kibitzing)
I actuially have found missiles to be the better tech. I imagine YMMV, but in my last game I found that for straight bang for the space on your ship, missiles were deadlier than an equal weight of energy or mass driver weapons. If anti-missiles are more efficient weight wise as well (don't notice that, but it may be true), that would keep missiles balanced versus the other weapons.
All the children say We don't need another hero We don't need to know the way home All we want is life beyond Thunderdome
