I'm pretty sure it's because 1)They're hitting your weaker ships first since the AI prioritizes attacking ships with fleet bonuses, and 2) they have a 350+ friggin attack!! That means they probably have a lot of guns, which means they have a lot of shots after your weak units go down (left over guns can still shoot if they haven't shot already -- I'm assuming your AWACS are mounted on cargo hulls). Fleets are good to bring a large amount of firepower to bare in a single attack. If you

Well, I don't think this will unbalance the technologists if you take this line of thinking to the logicial conclusion. Why would only the technologists get a boost? Why can't some of the other parties get boosts in their respective specialties? Shouldn't Industrialists get morale boosts for having more factories? Shouldn't federalists get a morale boost for having more stock markets? Etc, etc. But back to the root of the problem: I can't really agree that there'd be a negativ

I don't think juding a races strength by the way the AI plays them matters for much. It seems to differ based on who's computer is running the game. Some people have their biggest problem as the torians. Mine tend to be the Krynn or Korath (and suddenly Terrans my last couple of games). On the other hand, there do seem to be races that are universially weak, like the Korx.

About upgrading the ground combat graphics: I don't doubt it's coolness, but personally, after a week I'd be skipping through it just like I do now. Combat would not only have to be pretty, but it'd have to be dynamic, such that you don't see the same combat animations over and over. It would probably be too much work. About upgrading ground combat depth: Now this is something that would be cool. First and foremost on my mind is that researching weapon and defense techs should impr
Slight increases in cost over time wouldn't have annoyed people, but needed some sort of realism. Sudden doublings looked a lot like a bug though, and acted like a bug- not to mention crippling of the AI.Also, it made creativity the most powerful trait in the game.
Gotta agree with this statement. The idea wasn't bad, but the implementation was funky. Say I'm researching Tech A and Tech B, Tech A taking 5 turns, and Tech B taking 6 turns. I do Tech A first, and once fi
he thalans are born and bred conquerors and that you will not need to build a lot of infrastructure to do so until your economy can handle it.Thats true. They have a hugemongous amount of civ-wide bonuses to production. I usually do a major colony rush, fill my worlds with econ buildings and then add factories here and there as I can afford them, maybe devote the smaller worlds to labs.I don't even use +pop growth, I prefer taking +econ and +morale. With %100 approval you can crank out co
Any tips on Thalan invasions? Not only do they have stunted growth, they're soldiering is average at best, and they only get gas and info warfare to take planets (without stealing/trading techs).

Toss in 'no farms' into that pile as well. My only advice with Thalan and invading is to stockpile troop ships whenever you can afford to. As you said, they don't have the rebound factor, mass numbers nor strong soldiering ability that others have so they will have to make

Actually, I haven't noticed much of a change with the colony rush, beyond it's speed that is. I play gigantic/tough and still end up rushing to get those last few open planets after 50 or so turns. Though I do play with a LARGE number of colonizable planets (abundant/common for number of planets and habitable planets respectively). Even with the thalans with their growth nerfs, you can still survive the econ crash by loading transports with multiple colony pods, so that your colonies start w
