a freespace mod for this game sounds like a great idea. that game was one of my favorite space sims. i still load up number 2 sometimes (one's graphics and game play feel a little too dated nowadays) it's a shame the company went under and the story line will never be completed.

i seem to recall some sort of official comment a while ago (maybe even before release) that creativity was supposed to function by giving you random techs every now and then (and these are techs off the tech tree). I assume these techs would be limited by where you are on the tech tree. sure wish a developer would post the official word on this I
well i will still stick to my guns on the whole it doesnt make sense thing regardless of who started it and it's pretty silly to use language that doesnt make sense. sort of defeats the purpose of language. i'm familiar with d&d and chaotic evil is deffinitly not associated with "less evil". a lawfull evil character would be just as evil as a chaotic evil one. the destinction lies in how they go about being evil. edit: and changing evil to "pure evil" still doesn’t alleviat
chaotic evil? chaotic good? what does that even mean? my interpratation would be "they do whatever they want but they're evil (or good). that phrase would not accuratly explain those number ranges. something more descriptive such as evil, less evil, neutral etc. would make much more sense.
-USA share f-22 techs with UK, UK shares his tech with Italy, France, Spain and at an higher price at China. So China pays a bit more than Italy but get USA last technology. It’s totally unrealistic USA would never share their best tech to China or allow UK to do it. I don't agree also with people which say only that it's realistic or rationale that all races trade their t
Not to knock GC2, but you're giving an IGN review a full post? Given the high score they gave Moo3 (a game that was widely rejected by its fan base) it seems silly to use them as a source of credit for your own game (which has been widely held as the true sequal to Moo2). I fail to see how this is supposed to convince gamers to buy your game. Go with gamespot or gamespy, they're far more reputable and gamespot even has a larger reader base.<
make sure to label it slow colony rush. I myself find this to be a non existant issue.
to be honest, i'm at a lost often times as to why civilizations with any type of territory would surrender to an enemy civilization at all. imagine you're the governor of a planet of a civilization that is getting beat on by an ideologically different race. wouldn’t you rather surrender your sovereignty to a civilization that was fairly strong and embodied your ideals rather than the one that has crushed your country? Further more, if you and an ally w
to be honest, i've always hated the fact that i can't see the system clock when i'm playing games. I keep a clock right by computer for this very reason. this is really a very minor problem but i suppose a timer would be rather nice.
I think the need for some sort of political borders is very real. This was seen in the transition of civ2 to civ3 in the cultural borders which were implemented. granted they weren’t perfect but they stopped the situation in civ2 where you owned a continent and someone came in and grabbed the one square that wasn’t covered by your cities. Likewise, it seems crazy that interstellar civilizations would tolerate other civilizations colonizing worlds in their systems. imagine if humans an
I second ubbax. I think the humans have the proper set of abilities for a new player. I wouldnt say they're the best overall mind you. But yeah, quite good for starting out.
Wouldn't it be natural to have your alignment affected based on who you went to war with? A war monger who gobbles up minor planets, (or in real life a nation that swallows up smaller neighbors, ie: Nazi Germany, Napolean etc...) would lean toward the evil side . Another dynamic could be who you forge alliances with, because really, you are a reflection of who you associa
you didn't mention installing the games patch which is why i'm asking, did you install the games patch?
good lord, i just couldnt finish that. i now know entirely too much about desktop x's relation to GalCiv2. I probably should have tried skipping ahead in the interview but I just had to kill it a good way into that part of the discussion. edit: yeah i don't know what i was thinking would be on the interview when brad said, "Seriously though, if you've ever wanted to hear what goes into making a game, this is worth listening to." but for some reason i wasn't expecting that (whi
I dunno, I've really never had a problem with the early land grab in most well made 4x games (like GC2). Sure the land grab at the beginning is important, but so is a well played midgame. Of course a well played early game is going to benefit you for the rest of the game where as a well played mid or late game will only help you from that point on (making the beggining more important) but that's the way I think it should be. Otherwise, what's the point of playing the beginning if its not going t
yeah. it seems like pirates are a bit out of wack sometimes. Pirates should be an annoyance, not the ultimate military force in the universe. I mean, where the hell are they getting these ships sometimes?!
The rampant tech trading is really just simulating (albeit a bit abstractly) how things work with technology between nations in real life. Technology moves around alot in the real world. It might seem like America has a huge tech advantage over say a country like iran but if you were to view this through the context of say the Civilization games the tech difference would only number a few techs (the US's advantage would come primarly through its superi
Awesome. glad you guys put this out. On a very minor note, is there any chance of getting this built into and directly accessable within the game? Alt-tabing to get to the feature isnt as nice as having the feature right there in the game.
As far as high school QA testers, I think they'd do fine. Not as good as pros--there are people who do PhD's on the topic--but they can do the job. The console companies regularly hire people to just play games all day. It doesn't take someone who did their thesis on State-Driven Formal Verification of Event-Driven Software to pl
Most high school students do not make good bug testers. And, unfortunately, those that are usually want to move onto something better-paid sooner or later. High school students as testers? Are you offering much money for these QA jobs? When I was in QA the only high school student we had on staff was a friends son of a producer and he was just
I believe the developer explained some of this in a statement in an old thread about how some of the weaknesses and strengths are based off those races' AI and not directly off stats (each race has its own AI routine). With that said "high defection rate" would seem to need a stat adjustment to be game effective
Many driver installations for windows require a reboot after install. however if the install didnt prompt you to reboot then you shouldnt need to on the other hand if you're still having problems you might try rebooting and trying again.
Here's another issue for this thread Link Summary: Harmoney crystals and secret police only give +20 for morale. These techs are very far down the tech tree. Techs closer to the beginning offer greater morale bonuses and are likely to have been researched before the crystals and secret police making placing these advanced structures typically a waste of a tile.</font
Here's a link to a relavent forum thread: Link The developer says in the thread that it's a feature not a bug. However this feature essentially just gives you free money. The basic summary is that if you make a large purchace everything that would drop you below -2000 is free. So if you have zero dollars and make a 10k purchase you only go to -2k. Seems more like a really neat exploit. Frogboy sugge
