It's when you make your first medium ship that the movie plays. The file name is 'mini_BattleshipBuilt.bik' if you wanted to play it outside of GalCiv 2. Assuming you have a Bink Player codec anyhow. I don't know where you'd find it online unless someone here wants to upload it to youtube or something. I could email you the video if you like. Just send me a PM with an email address.

You're right about the 3/4 Basic Support difference. There's 3 BS in the GC2Ships.xml and 4 in the S0_ColonyShip.shipconfig. The extra Colony Module is just for show btw. GC2Ships.xml: Colony Ship ColonyShip Taking people into that great big galaxy. <b

For those who are wanting to make your own planet surface images, there's a good planet generator program here: http://www.gharat.net/ It's upto version 4.0 now. I've been using it since v1.0, about 9 years. These are some I've done for my own system, done on PlanetGen v1.0 <img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.co

If your ships aren't as good technology-wise, and your economy is stable, you could set funding to research and set all colonies to focus research. Depending on how many colonies you have, you could completely research one line of defense techs (shield, PD, or armor) in a few turns. Once you got to where you want to be tech-wise, you can design a new ship. You then have a few options to get back ontop militarily: 1) Set production slider to 0% for some quick cash and upgrade

-Super Breeder ability is a 'per-colony' ability, meaning you can run your taxes high so your capital is at 46% approval, and the new colony is at 100% approval, and the new colony still gets the 4x modifier. -You can see what any enemy planet is building with the 'Ship/Planet List' window (F1/F2). You must have uncovered the fog of war over the planet to see it though. Really helpful before you start paying for agents so you know if you need to rush-buy that Galactic Achievement or T

In Win 2000 and XP the folder viewing window is ran by 'Explorer.exe'. I always have the 'Windows Task Manager' thing opened and minimized (hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to open it). I honestly don't know what everyone else calls it. To open the 'Explorer' folder/file viewing window, just press Windows+E. I would imagine it's the same for Vista, but I don't have Vista, so... *shrug*.

The Turn Button Anomaly... You basically have a few options. 1) Save the game, quit, then rerun TA and reload your game. Open debug.err before rerunning TA though. It makes a new file everytime you run the game. 2) Try clicking on some of your ships. Sometimes a ship has movement left but the game engine is caught up in something else. If you can find the ship with movement left, and move it, it sometimes fixes it. Personally, I always quick-save (ctrl+S) before I click the

The modding site is for GalCiv2 DL, not really for DA or TA. So that's why those extreme enviroment ones and the freighter one is missing. But it's still an informative site.

Made a few replies to some posts about 6 hours ago, and they went through. Pages showed me the reply like they went through at least. I checked back on a few of them a few minutes ago since I wanted to add something else, but now they don't show up. It's like they got back-dated. Also some of the posts had some replies about the same time as I did, and those don't show up either.

So many questions need to be asked... Which race are you playing? What tech tree and which super ability? Alot also depends on what you're building on planets. Are you doing mostly factories, research, or economy buildings? Are you specializing each planet or doing a generic build? Are you building immediately after colonizing or waiting for the population levels rise some? About what turn # are the enemies envading? (click the date at the top to switch it between date an

Blame Micro$oft for their default settings. In the explorer, goto 'Tools', 'Folder Options', 'View' tab, uncheck the 'Hide exptensions for known file types' Then hit 'OK' and find that file and rename it back. For further edits, you don't have to rename the file. Just open Notepad, and drag the file onto Notepad to open it there. (That is if you want to use Notepad anyhow)

Depending on which version you wish to play on the GalCiv2 Ultimate: DL folder: '...\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships' DA folder: '...\My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\ships' TA folder: '...\My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\ships' I tested them on TA, and they work. Not sure about DL or DA as I don't really play those versions that much.

My problem is kinda the opposite. Some of the good races don't expand. Splink appears to be correct about the 'AI Personality' affecting it. Drengin, Yor and Korath - Expand just fine. They do get a good territory, about 15-20 planets on a huge map. Human, Drath, Thal and Krynn - Super expanders. They normally end up with a good 1/6 to 1/4 of the map, about 25-45 on a huge map. Torian and Iconian - Decent/super expanders... they end up with a huge terri

Copy-pasted from the 'GalCiv2manual.pdf' that came with the game, page 28: Black Hammer: Colony has unused tiles and is not building. Orange Hammer: Colony has unused tiles and is currently building a planetary improvement. Yellow Ship: Colony has a starport and is not constructing a ship. Green Ship: Colony has a starport and is currently constructing a ship. Unhappy Citizen: This colony‘s resid

On the 'Choose Opponents' screen, you can add them as an AI to play against and hit the 'Edit' button. There will be a 'Personality' tab that you can change some settings on. Save the race and see if that changes anythng. Alternatively, you can edit their .raceconfigxml files. They should be located at '..\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2' or simular path. http://www.tbsmodder.com/forum/kb.php?mode=articl
Regarding this, the most helpful piece of advice I ever read (it came from Mumblefratz I believe) was to build NOTHING on all new colonies until the population has increased, and therefore tax revenue has increased. This has been very effective in my experience to keep the expenses down during that financially tight period during the colony rush.
I got that from Mumblefratz too. Some games I've done 120 - 150 or so turn colony rushes. Key to that is build nothing

Sometimes you have to select the AI's planet and press ctrl+shift+Z twice to 'hotseat' to the AI's race. I've had instances where if you only do it once, you're not playing any race. At that point you could hit 'end turn' and everything will go automatically from there. Since in that state you don't have units or planets to attend to, it auto-ends your turn. Most cases you can't select anything and the only way to end it is to hit ctrl+alt+del and end GalCiv2.

Research all the Influence techs early, along with the Diplomacy techs. Buy all their BC in exchange for influence so they don't have money to rush buy things with. Having no cash the AI will build attackless and defenseless hulls in hopes of upgrading later. Just before declaring war, buy off all their ships you can weither they have weapons or not, and upgrade those that don't. -Perferably using influence instead of cash. Then declare war and laugh as the AI doesn't have any

Playing with a custom civ using the Iconian techtree and 'Isolationist' super ability. But I think the computer took it a little too literal when it made the map. The closest habitable planet is 44pc away, and also happens to be the Yor Collective's home planet Iconia. 2pc away from that (46pc from me) is Iconia V. The system to the right of my homeworld and those between the Yor Collective and I are all 0-pq or require the techs to colonize them.
