Good or evil custom race

Hi,

I tried to create two custom races, one very peaceful and the other warlike. When I start a game with the peaceful race, the first message informs me that "Earth creatures have shared their hyperdrive technology" and "doom awaits any who should threaten us". However, the warlike race informs me that "our human brothers have shared their technology" and that peace will be the way etc.

I tried deleting the races and create them again in a different order but now I'm getting tired of filling the same forms in again and again... How can I do it so that th peaceful race ACTS peaceful in its messages and the warlike race acts warlike?

On the 'Choose Opponents' screen, you can add them as an AI to play against and hit the 'Edit' button. There will be a 'Personality' tab that you can change some settings on. Save the race and see if that changes anythng.

Alternatively, you can edit their .raceconfigxml files. They should be located at '..\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2' or simular path. http://www.tbsmodder.com/forum/kb.php?mode=article&k=8 is a good place to start for learning what's what in the file.

Sorry, but that did not help... as for the personality tab in the opponents screen, I had already tried that. There are quite a few lines in the .raceconfigxml that are not explained in Macmatts post but neither of these, be it mentioned or unmentioned seems to help... But from that I got the idea to search through the xml files in the /Twilight of the Arnor/Data/English folder and I found the messages in the FlavorText.xml, where the text about the new age of peace is found under the tags

<Topic Name="Journal_A_Journey_Begins">
  <Dialogue>
    <Speaker Name="Altarian">2</Speaker>
    <Listener Name="Generic">10</Listener>
    <Phrase Morality="1">

And the text about doom awaiting any threat has nearly the same tags, except for

<Speaker Name="Yor">5</Speaker>

Is there a way to choose which of these a custom race uses?

I would guess it's the <DialogueTag>Human</DialogueTag> tag that dictates that.

Estelyen, perhaps you are not understanding what is happening here. You seem to be confused as to who is sending messages to whom.

You are an alien race that has been given hyperdrive by the Humans. That first message is from the Humans to you - an alien race. You are not communicating with them - they are communicating with you.

As a 'good' race you are threatened (by the Humans), to keep you docile and fearful; as an 'evil' race you are sucked up to, to keep you from attacking.

If you create a custom race that you want to play as a peaceful race, then lean towards a 'good' alignment (and go that way when you choose your ethical alignment) and play it that way. But you will still have to defend yourself, even so. Diplomacy can only go so far against those that will not be 'talked' into peace, so research and utilize those special 'good alignment' weapon and defense techs.

If you create yourself as an evil race - then be prepared to start aggressive, continue aggressive, and finsh aggressive.

Personally, I prefer Neutral alignment.

I don't think that I'm confusing anything... I have read the background story and I know that I am an alien race that has been given hyperdrive by humans.

These messages are definitely NOT sent from humans to me, they're sent from this robot who manages the quarterly reports, the "Research Complete" and other messages; I doubt that human ambassadors would encourage me to bring doom over anyone who threatens me...

That is exactly what I wanted to do, but the messages I get from this robot (some sort of general advisor I guess) are not fitting to the ethical alignment I want to have and that's the point of my question^^

I know that, it's not the first time I'm playing this game :P
