Maybe turn based games were never really in trouble but this year seems to be one of the best years in recent memory. This year will have games such as GalCiv II, HOMM V (with no starforce), Dominions 3, the Malfador Mechanations title (can't think of it at the moment) and many more. Really more games to play than I have time...what a great problem to have!

I am pretty sure this has never been done before but wanted to get some feed back from others and perhaps put a bug in the ear of the devs. I think we all enjoyed the after action reports we were getting early on. I also think that most of us play this and other games like it for the "role playing" or imagination aspect of the game. I work for a hospital information company that has a software application suited for physician charting. Essentially, as the physician checks off certian actions
I am in sales for a hospital information system company. I am out of town every week but I love it. I get to sell healthcare software AND play PCgames in my hotel rooms everynight.
If it were added to the already existing sensor tech tree, I do not see why the AI would have any problem with it. It would just be a more advanced level of the sensor tech.
Perhaps my use of the term was incorrect then. It seems to be a matter of symantics. Your description is what I intended.
" That begs the question...if you started the war but were getting your butt walloped would you stick around, and refuse making a peace treaty so you could survive, just to see it through so they can win?" That's part of the issue as well. It seems that the AI is all too willing to start a war and maybe even join in but it also makes peace with other AIs much too quickly. The question is not if you would accept a peace treaty i
My thinking was that the item would be rather large so it would only be able to fit on a medium sized hull or larger...unless sufficient miniaturization was researched of course.
I noticed this also...same kind of thing happened to me. I made a post once asking if there was some way to increase the AI determination but got no response. The fact is, unfortunately, that the AI will almost always start a war on your side but never finish it. I would like to see it stick around with me if it is really my ally.
At the expense for suggesting a Trek like feature (I am not a huge fan myself) I do like the idea of perhaps adding a sub-category to the sensor research tree...cloaking or stealth ability. I think it would be great to add a cloaking ability that would hide a ship from other ships sensors UNLESS the other ship either reached a certain sensor ability or researched cloaking also. I can see some real stratagy involved in having one ship in a fleet with
This is somewhat of a sidebar issue relating to this AI alliance, war subject. It seems to me that allies are far too eager to make peace with your common enemy leaving you holding the bag. Is there a setting in the XML that can increase their determination?
I agree. I was not making that point flippently...just that some option are just that... options. I am not in the business of software design so I have no idea of the man hours required. Just sharing an idea...you never know...the game gods may just agree.
You make some good points. I do not agree with all of them but it does warrant the need for an "Enable Fleet Retreat" option in the game set-up. That way all of this would not matter for people who would rather not use it. I realize it would most likely not be added to the game but I think it would be a fun addition all the same.
My only suggestion was to be able to retreat...I can't speak to the other options. I am not at a place I can test the retreat option on the ships so I will look for it. I doubt it however since no one else has mentioned it here. Anyway, the discussion seems to have lost some of it's "manners" so I will move on. BTW...the Lucky Rangers are great for players like me who can't seem to fight out of a paper bag...even on settings as
I think that would work. I do think that it should only apply to fleet battles and not individual ship skirmishes. One question though...does the % issue reflect entire fleet damage or each individual ship? I ask because the outcome would be completely different. battle to 25% of fleet hit points will usually result in the entire fleet being destoyed save perhaps one or two ships. If , however, it was applied to each ship, you may very well gett al
I am glad most here agree with the retreat idea. The nice thing about it is that your ability is based on the tech match ups of the civilizations and the specific ships in the battle. That way, it does not guarantee a successful retreat everytime. Just the decision to retreat adds an added bit of chance and stratagy. One comment was made, however, that does concern me. The battle calculations are done BEFORE we view it. That pretty much
Well, I am having a great time with this game. It has taken me a couple of games to get to the point where I can last long enough to hit some of the real stratagy in the game and as a result, have one idea I would love to suggest....let me retreat!! It would be nice if while my biggest and baddest capital ship is getting its but kicked, I could select a button during the battle to
Not so much a bug I guess (maybe it is) but I learned that if you update the version of the software and then try to continue an existing game, you get CTD when you try to save ship designs. I started a new game and it works fine so beware if you are in an existing game.
