I play on gigantic maps with very few habitable planets and refresh the map until I get spawned far away from anyone else. That way, if the AI declares war against me, I take out his starbases and my empire will hopefully be out of range. Other than that, get research treaties early on (trade your supertechs if you must), keep a lookout for opportunities to poach other people's kills (station a transport or two near minor race worlds) and if you can bribe your opponents to go to war with each ot

Gah, ignore above post. Misclicked. Is it just me or does TA have more problems with asymmetric ship components than DA? I know it's entirely aesthetic, but it really sets off my OCD when I can't get my ships looking just right. :( I'm well into an immense, suicidal map and the difference in the races is pretty noticeable. The diplomacy is getting better, I think, although the AI still doesn't seem to regard planets as very important (seriously, they won't trade a single good
There are still too many "unique" techs that haven't been flagged as un-tradeable/un-stealable (IMO), but it's fairly easy to go into the tech tree files and add more restrictions on individual techs if you want. That way, you can still play with tech trading on, which is a big help in getting started out with the "slower" race economies, while avoiding that homogenizing effect in the late game. Or just turn off trading completely, which will really emphasize the differences and make the
Never mind. I am dumb. You put the starting ships in when you make the map. Can't see a space miner in the list though.
Hey there. Just tried to make my own custom map for Twilight, but when the game starts, there's no starting colony ship, miner or explorer. Is there a way to get them in?
Agreed, at least another level of fortification is required. At the moment the military ones don't merit the resources it takes to max their stats. They just get killed in one turn.
Easy. Turn off tech victories. It's too easy on gigantic anyway, and the AIs could race for it just when the game is getting good. Normal is what I play, fast is just... too fast...
This. I also play on the slowest tech rate.
I like to play on suicidal, so I'm always waaaaay behind the AI in tech and military until well into the game. I bribe them to go to war with each other so they're too busy to notice how puny I am. I get research treaties with the AI as soon as possible, generally trading my super ability techs to do so. I nearly always cave in to extortion, if I can possibly pay it. I play on gigantic maps with tight clusters so the galaxy is divided into some critical areas and a big load of nothing
I'm just getting a 404 on that link.
I look forward to the immense map. I love the commitment you guys have shown to Galciv2. Long may it continue!
Ancient precursor factory found. This is a giant space station that produces ships like a planet but at a massively higher rate. Whoever has at least on ship garrisoning it controls it. Religious fundamentalism grows rapidly. Any democratic government loses all their biology technologies and suffer a big slowdown in research. Planets already terraformed will not be lost, but the relevant technologies will have to be re-researched to colonize new worlds. A minor race appears wit
C'est la vie, I suppose. BTW, Magnumaniac, those are some awesome scores on your games (puts my 'triumph' into perspective!). I only win on suicidal by generating maps with the fewest planets possible. Would you be willing to share your wisdom?
Heartbreaking. Moral of the story: check for updates more.
I just won a gigantic map game on suicidal. My score for that one game was higher than all my previous games combined. Feeling very smug, I submitted to the Metaverse, sure in the knowledge that I was about to go up a few hundred places in the rankings... but no. "Detected Cheat Codes" flashed up beside my last score. It may be the result of a bug, or, more likely, at some point in that incredibly long game I mashed the wrong buttons, disqualifying my result. Be careful what y
Widescreen support for the cutscenes and minor race profile pictures (everything else at 1440*900 seems to work fine). AI should know a good deal when they see one. All my planets in exchange for 'advanced logistics' is a very good deal. New events, mega events and race-specific attributes would be nice. That's about all I can think of. P.S. I think it's great that you guys give such strong support for your game and involve the fanbase. Too many companies just
I've heard it said that the AI in Galciv doesn't cheat, so how, when playing on the toughest difficulty settings, do they expand so quickly? I go bankrupt with twenty colonies with about four people on each one and approval of 1% and still can't keep up with the comps. Any tips?
