It seems like it should be pretty simple, but I cannot get the game to run in windowed mode. It goes into fullscreen no matter what I do. I created a shortcut to the file like this: "c:\program files\stardock\totalgaming\galciv2\galciv2.exe" w I'm trying to play on my laptop, which has an external monitor. I want to drag the game window to my second monitor, which is bigger and has a better resolution.

Is there a way for me to upgrade my core ships? I'm not that good at designing ships, and I'd like to just be able to take a default constructor, colony ship, transport or freighter and stick on faster engines. Actually I'd like to do this with any core ship. Is there a way to start with one of them and modify it without trying to rebuild it from scratch?
How the heck do I get the options to "upgrade" or "construct" with ships that are stacked? All I get are the ship icons, and I have to move them to their own square before I can access those options. This just wastes movement and it seems like there should be a better way.
Maybe I'm missing something, but how do I tell if I have enough food production to meet the needs of my population. I don't see a graph on there, and according to my math, the 55 mts of food I produce is only enough for 55 million colonists. Also, do I have to produce food on each world, or can I produce it centrally and have it shipped around? Does this require freighters as in MOO2?
Not a bad first game really. It was pretty dull, actually, but not bad. I set the conditions pretty easy. Me as terrans vs 1 drengin opponent on sub-normal difficulty. They're way easy to beat 1v1 like that in a tiny galaxy. I used my start-up capital to buy a couple factories to get the economy going, then I bought up colony ships and started populating the galaxy. I had 4 colonies to their 2, and then by the time they had 4 I had 5 that were mostly developed. They weren't even building
It has arrived! At least for me. I just did a check for updated applications and it's downloading galciv2.exe right now. Looks like they've heard our pleas and have released the game early. Damn them, though, because I'm just leaving for lunch with co-workers.
What's the scoop with simultaneous building in GalCiv2? I hate the way most TBS games only let one entire planet build only one thing at a time. Can I at least do simultaneous military and social production? What if I build multiple starbases, can I crank out multiple ships at once or combine their output to build one thing faster? I know realism isn't a key thing in these games, what with space aliens, space ships and laser guns, but it's so jarringly unrealistic that an entire co
Aren't we all just so annoying, coming in with our ridiculous ideas, expectations and demands? Well I have another one. Not sure if this has been brought up before, or if maybe this is already in the game and I just haven't heard about it. I think it would be kind of cool to design a custom race to play AGAINST. I think it would be fun to create a computer player that has abilities and bonuses specially designed to either complement or oppose my own. I could create my own gr
I'm moving this to its own thread since a few people thought it sounded like a good idea. I think a petition is in order to politely convince our friends at stardocks to create a play-through commentary a la DVD director's commentary. Get a few of the key developers (art, AI, design, UI, what have you) in the room and everyone plays through a game and comments on various things that happen, such as why X happens when you do Y or how you arrived at the visual style we're see
I'm really looking forward to GalCivII releasing soon. I haven't played a TBS game since MOO2 that I really liked. From what I'm reading, though, I get the feeling like the AI is going to wipe the floor with me. I like this games but I'm also not all that good at strategy games. That said I also don't like "cheating" by having the computer just give me extra money. That feels lame to me. So how about this as a method for "cheating" other than just handing the computer more resour
