I found that you really don't need to worry about population approval, except during election weeks (change your tax rate the week of and change it back the week after) and when you are trying to actually grow your population. I found just letting the population growth peter out on the outlying (approval wise) planets works pretty well.
Like in real life :)

blizzard fans... You... I .... But... ARRRG MY BRAIN!!!!! This is like talking to a cartoon character, the worst of the sort. This must be how Dib (invader zim) feels all the time. you, sir, are INSANE. You loose at the interwebs.
Both KOTOR2 and NWN2 suffered primarily because of the klutzy graphics engine. Both of them had pretty strong storylines, although KOTOR2's in particular got truncated thanks to those (beep)s at Lucasarts. If people weren't so obsessed by the cosmetics (graphics and sound), we wouldn't be reduced to only seeing a handful of game releases every year (it's basically impossible for a small team to produce a game these days), nor would we be forced to keep upgrading hardware just to play the
I am going to quote myself from another thread: DRM as a whole is not meant to stop piracy (it never did do that successfully, nor was it designed in a way that COULD do so), it is a trick to force customers to purchase the same product again and again. (which several big DRM advocates HAVE publicly declared as their ultimate goal) Software companies like to pretend that their product is both intellectual property which they license, as well as a physical product which they sel
that is the LOGICAL thing to do jafo. But most media companies (music, movies, games, software...) try to treat it as both in a manner that the customer bears the downsides of both and the benefits of neither. For it to actually be treated as nothing but the distribution method requires that the distributor also honor their side. Which is exactly what stardock does. If your original DVD is scratched you can download it again without need to repurchase. Stardock treats it as an IP th
Huh? First, DRM isn't one thing; it's many things. So you can't make generalizations as to what it does or does not do.Second, I have yet to see a videogame DRM scheme that wasn't clearly designed to stop piracy. Even StarForce, as maligned as it is, is generally removed after 6 months by later patches, because most of the sales of the game have already happened. It served it's purpose, protecting the critical launch window of the game, so they remove it.
1. I was usi
I wonder, will impulse stop my idiot System Mechanic program from telling me that my SDC is a trojan? lol..Every time I run the "repair spyware" scan in Iolo System Mechanic, it tells me that the Loader.exe to start my SDC is a spyware program and tries to delete it! And if I accidentally let it run automatically, then I end up having to reinstall my SDC!
False positives are a sign of sub par software. They will identify harmless files as viruses, and let real problems go
While it is a shame to loose a beutiful base design, i just don't care anymore. This technique bypasses all the bugs...Read my previous post
I did that too, what I meant is that i loose even that blank design because I disabled the option to save designs between games. to bypass the bugs. EDIT: but seems the issue was fixed
Very neat idea with the yor... Maybe have some "organic assimilation" technologies that will allow the yor to practice diplomacy though cybernetics
you know, chicken little was RIGHT and the sky WAS falling down...
Yea, MOM is still awesome. Age of wonders 2 is better (but not shadow magic, that one is no fun :() "Why don't they make games people want to play?" - ha, that is a good question. Same one asked by many people, including the guys at stardock. Really, it beats me, some companies think that making the most boring and pretty game will appeal to the "extreme gamer". Some imaginary personality construct in their mind that likes things different then anyone else. Specifically, th
is why, when people talk about pirating, they only talk about the pc. Xbox's can be chipped/flashed to play games without discs and so can Play Stations, don't know about the wii but you will be able to eventualy it's also possible to play g
This is true. In fact, pirating is EASIER on those. You crack the protection on the SYSTEM and then ALL future games work. With a PC you need to crack each individual game as it comes out. Much more difficult. I think the big
meh, its all pretty accurate. Except that the crime part is completely justified and has nothing to do with WOW. Think about it for a second. You spend weeks of work aquiring something, it is stolen and sold for thousands of dollars... it is no different then someone stealing your car and selling it, the fact that the chinese government laughes at such complaints motivates people to take into their own hands. "but its just a game"... so is golf, and if I stole and sold a 6000$
WOW does pretty damn well in china... I think it has like 2 mil in us, 2 mil in china... The chinese government is now opening "gaming addiction clinics" to handle the loss of productivity, and anti social behavioral crippling the nation's youth. As an MMO, wow is impractical to pirate (custom servers with broken and outdated content are the only way to play), so it makes sense for it to target china. Honestly I think this article sugar coats the situation too much to

i find trade is a must in my conquest games. I tend to have a pretty powerful economy (lots of manufacturing planets from higher tech level, 50/49/1 tech/social/military spending or 0/99/1 with tech focus on planets) and I find that trade is the only way to keep the factories fed. I always get max bonus to economy, as well as federalist gov for another +20, and I max the economy tech tree early, but with the way I expand and spend it is just not enough. having a turn budget in the trillions of c
and then all the review sites give it poor scores... and the people who actually buy games as a christmas gift (ie, non gaming family members) are not gonna buy it (At least I am assuming they look for "top rated" games to buy rather then just randomly plucking something off a shelf). Yes its a shame... but I am so glad galciv does NOT suffer from this problem. The game is released when its ready. not before that. And it is patched with new and exciting content later (not with cut conte
So I just got Knights of the old republic and had a blast. Yea the game was somewhat dated, and having the two black bars on the sides of my screen (no wide screen res and I don't want a distorted image) was a bit of a pain. But the game really rocked. So I get KOTOR2... and the game is woefully buggy and incomplete. This immediately made me think about how COMPLETE galciv2 is. How twilight of arnor was not rushed for Christmas. But will instead be released when its ready. Luck
[q]2) Fleet management: how about creating fleets in a slightly different way. You create a fleet in a governor-type screen by selecting created templates and limited by your logistics score. When you're done the planets will automatically begin to produce the ships to build the fleet. As your fleet fights, losses are compensated by planets re-building those ships on their own.[/q] - Very nice idea, it can make all those new fleet bonus techs actually useful. [q]5) Have starbas
"I thought 15 was the max allowed radius, but maybe that has changed in a recent update. I would love to see the Eyes bonus apply to planets too - seems silly that it doesn't already." When a ship lunches from a plenet it will sometimes "stick" a planet with 15 range of view until a ship lands on it, then it looses it... Or something else confused like that. I forgot the exact way it went since I haven't played since DA (I am waiting for twilight to finish)
Here are some suggestions I hope make it in: Firstly, some ship design suggestions, since you need to redesign after every tech... 1. A +/- sign next to ship component to quickly add/remove components to the ship. 1b. a counter of how many you have of each individual component right next to the +/- sign. 2. Allow hardpoints on a template to be numbered for quick adding components... For example, have the front hardpoints be numbers 1,2,3,4 for weapons. Have the back hardpoin
The great thing about this, is that it doesn't feel like you are replaying the exact same game every time... instead its a whole new game for every civilization. I am gonna end up playing it 12 times at least (once per civ)
- United Planets votes less hateful to evil civs. - Evil Civs less powerful, Good more powerful, Neutral of equal power to both.
See that is exactly what I am talking about... Oh the UP is hating on evil civs and crippling them too much... oh but the evil civs are way to powerful (weapon wise) compared to good civ... I mean, If its got both weaknessess and strengthes then its balanced. Thats the whole point... balanced doesn't mean "the same" or "the same wit
evil is supposed to be better... the rewards for evil are immidiate gains... the rewards for good is the way the AI treats you. Good races stand up for each other... I do think however that it should be powered up... that is, if an evil civ declares war on a good civ then any good civ in good standing with the first one should help it, Monatary aid sounds like the best way of doing so. (think how in the begining of WW2 the us was sending money and supplies to the allies) also "3. It wou
