As I said in the OP, SmartException does not detect the crashes.

I have yet to complete a game in Dark Avatar due to constant buffer overrun crashes 50-150 turns in. I have the latest video drivers, the latest patch, and smart exception does not detect the crashes. I have also sent an e-mail with with my most recent saved game and the debug.err to [email protected].
