I know he's the owner of Stardock, it's just that with Digital Distribution you don't really get a "manual" persay ;). I know you have to look i the game directory but not everyone knows. :p "Persectued" can mean many things, in this case I'm using it as a cause for being unjust based on previous history. Don't worry I'm not angry, I'm just curious about the reasonings and all, and also that my friend is a lil peeved... >_>
<br
Just as a point of reference, Impulse is mentioned by name in the original Sins of a Solar Empire documentation.
Are you sure? From what I remember Impulse wasn't out for another 4-6 months after SOASE was released. While you're still mentioning about second hand games though, you still fail to acknowledge those that bought the game legitimately and have been persecuted since the induction of Impulse. It's highly unfair, especially
I sympathize with your friend's plight in this and I think you do have a valid concern; however I can also see this from Stardock's point of view. If they allowed what you're asking for then your friend could potentially take that file and post it up to a torrent site for all the pirates. I'm not saying that your friend would do that, and without an net connetion it would be pretty difficult for them to anyways , but I think you under
im pretty sure valve's own games require steam to be patched. Personally i like the updating service of steam and impulse. Theyre both fast and automatic. Lots of games have ridiculous numbers of patches (im looking at you dawn of war), and i just hate downloading 8 different exes just to patch up to the rite version. Then theres problems of regional patch variations etc etc. Now the op here hates digital distribution and using accounts
Let's do an analogy here. You ignorantly buy the keys to a car but the ownership and insurance papers are still in the name of the original owner. Sure you can still drive around and shit, but when a cop pulls you over and asks for your papers youre fucked.
That's why you get the papers transfered by the DVLA and the insurance registered beforehand. ;) Anyway the only thing I don't like is that you have to be
Is it really so impossibly difficult to understand that free, unrestricted patches are the industry norm?
I agree with you on this point, well I pretty much said why already. My friend having bought the game cannot update her game simply because she has no net access, having an unrestricted patch will solve this, or at least have a separate download linked to your account, that way she can go into the downloads section and download

Read it again, I said that when the reseller sells the game, they contact SD and they have to pay them a fee for reselling the game to the new owner.
why?
Not everyone has internet access, my friend currently has no internet access as she isn't at home enough to warrant one, but she has no way of updating the game herself. A legitimate user being hampered for having no net connection. It's just little things like this that can become frustrating for consumers.</

I honestly don't see what the problem is. I've always supported games that have literally no DRM whatsoever, I do however also support the fact that the online services should be behind lock and key, the reason for this is if people pirate the game then they need a genuine serial to play the game online. The only aspect I don't like is that you're forced to have an account with Stardock to update the game, that's the only thing I don't like, but as it's a centralised service (like Ste

I also think that the amount of mines laid makes it terribly frustrating, especially when entering another system with mines surounding you. I think some sort of mine clearing ship or a type of fighter is needed to clear the mines for safe passage.
Nevermind. It looks like you have to go register your other games to add them to Impulse. I think I'll hold off since I don't see any real reason to do this just yet. (I can get patches for UT3 on my own and UT-GOTY isn't going to be patched any further.) What would be neat would be if--assuming Epic ever makes a UT4 or a UT 3.5, they offered a discount via Impulse for people who'd bought (the very disappointing) UT3.
Tried adding my Unreal games and it seems that you can

It's sorted now. It was a really weird thing I did, I basically thought that I'd try signing up with my Paypal address and just input the CD Key and get the CE content, it didn't work so I thought "great, just my luck". Logged back into this account and the content shows up! How bizarre but at least I've finally got the content I've paid for. I'll be sure to purchase everything through Impulse this time! Loving the soundtrack and artwork guys! Can't wait for your next game. :)
