Some nice ships in those threads. I wonder what the new editors will allow. Sounds interesting. Anyway, back to EVE until they come out. :P

Hey guys. Anyone from 2006 still here? :P Errr. I noticed the Twilight stuff after getting bored at work and checked out the features. Got me interested in ship design again. What are some of the latest ship designs looking like these days? I mean designs using in-game elements, not modded. Here's my last effort, for example. 2 years old in case you think they're crap. The designer was good but restrictive back then. :) https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=346&aid=10395

Similar problem here, similar system specs. I have the driver from AMD installed. Edit: AMD driver wasn't installed. After installation problem is fixed.

The flip hardpoint attachment modifier not only reverses the direction of the hardpoint, but also flips the axis. For example with a hardpoint pointing forward and up, when you apply the modifier will make it point backwards and down. Don't know if that was intentional but it's different to the beta where it only reversed the direction. For axis flipping you might want to add more modifiers.

Sometimes after loading a game the sound will be unusually loud, much louder than the level set in the volume sliders. Moving the sliders around a bit immediately lowers the volume to the value indicated on the slider.

Lol, I have a forum icon for cakewalk even though I haven't sumbitted a single metaverse game. I am in an empire though.

1) I can't seem to upload a mod. Get some ASPX errors when I try. 2) The design files will be obsolete when the new patch comes out 3) Can I work around that?

I don't understand screen capture programs. Just press print-screen and paste the image into ms-paint (if you don't have a better image editing program) and save it somewhere as a JPG file. Easy peeeeezy. Rinse and repeat for each screenshot you want to take.

Well! That's an easy question to answer spitmass. You see what happened was the game was made available for download from a couple of servers somewhere, AND get this coz it's cool right, it was put on some shelves in some shops. Wow huh?! So yeah, it was that simple really. Why do you ask? mmmkdone

Clean up the tech tree. I notice there are some missing techs or incorrectly reported techs on the weapons / defense branches. Also the neutrality learning center or whatever the advanced research center you get by choosing a neutral alignment doesn't appear to be buildable. Removing components when upgrading a ship design which is "in the field" doesn't work when you try to remove the component by selecting it from the horizontal list of co

Sure I think I can do that. I will put together a zip file when I get home and upload to the metaverse library. I will include base designs only; devoid of engines, modules, and weapons / defense. I think you will need to choose the Drengin appearance if you want to use them though. And remember that you need to research the appropriate hull technologies in order to use some small, and all medium, large and huge hull types. Or you could have

Rogerano, have you taken a look at mine, yet, by the way? Great work buddy. Keep it up, and keep posting the good stuff here. More people inspired to use the ship designer = more feedback SD will receive = more extra components and more support and features for the ship designer. SD are on to a winne

Closeup of the Sabre. Next generation fighter. The TDF-20 Halberd. Frontal view of the Terranova. Not very flattering screenshots. Will get some more when I have time.

Cargo ships with senor ranges in excess of 15 makes things too easy. I have been in the position of being able to design a single ship with a sensor range of 220, which I simply parked in the middle of a gigantic galaxy. It was tactically advantageous and strategically wise, but completely removed any sense of adventure or risk from my military operations. The most fun comes from a game when the extremes are removed and there is balance, or the chance

I'm finding that combined fleets are working very well. The AI doesn't seem to know what to do. One very big ship with one or two medium and a couple of small ships. Scale down for lower logistics values. The AI seems to either attack a medium or small ship in which case the larger one is spared any damage at all and is free to dish out withering fire. I might lose a small ship but it's easy to replace. Or it targets the largest one which is still ok s

Shown here is the Terranova class battleship Invincible, along with most of Taskforce Beta, just after sucessful fleet action off Dark Yor. The Terranova was designed with ancient naval lines in mind, as seen by the sweeping bow and tiered super-structure. Two Sabres from Taskforce Alpha engage heavy elements from

Don't know if this has already been observed. Upgrade an existing ship design multiple times and save over the design with the same name. Reload a game. The design will appear in the ship build list as many times as you saved it. When building the ship, only the oldest version will be built, resetting to newest version works but once the game is reloaded all starports revert to using the oldest design again.

Ummm. You can't just "do" a "basic" MP version of a game. You been reading Frogboy's posts about developing that functionality? About the effort and budget and return on investment and those kinda real and practical things that tend not to be thought about a lot? Anyway, as I said, sometimes it's the cheddar that makes a game, not the multiplayer.

Well, I know for sure that "most systems" are not in fact uninhabitable. Coz, liek, I'm leet. And also in my experience they're not. Maybe I'm just a lucky guy, or it could because I'm leet. Either way, I don't have any problems finding planets on abundant settings. Also I'm not sure if you're aware how many habitable planets there would be on a huge galaxy if there were 3 for every star system. Using my powers of leet (a total guess) I'm betting there is an average of 1.5 systems per

zomgwtfbbq... I just thought of rotating pylon spheres and special spinning components to which you could attach larger static components. You could create all sorts of nifty little radar type things. Guess I missed the boat by a long shot though

Been in the position of having to do quite a lot of these recently. One element of the system which seems odd is the number of soldiers which fight on the enemy side. It is the entire population of the planet. That every single citizen of every single race (no matter their alignment or moral attributes) would bear arms against an intruder is rather strange. I also don't like the idea that my troops are in effect completely slaught

That Altarian ship and all the others around it for that matter (excluding the troop transports) is clearly excceding the 0.7 range figure listed in its stats. Sometimes my ships have been in this situation where they stop moving while in out-of-range-space, but I can't get them to do anything like attack other ships. These Altarian are attacking ships despite being out of range. Th

Ok firstly my apologies if it seems I'm going on about this a bit - I think I've finally organised some rational thoughts. I've been reading the AI posts by Draginol and I'm now partially informed as to what GCI did and what GCII will do in regards to military stuff and threat detection etc. I was impressed by some of the AI behaviours in GCI (surrounded by cloaked AI ships) and specifically the bit where the AI would send you a cheeky mess
