I really like it. It beats the pants off EA's mediocre SimCity.

Well, I've done the recording for episode 6 but the video editing program I'm using is basically brokenware so I'm going to have to start editing again from scratch with something which actually works. :P
So, I've recorded 46 more minutes of Episode 6 (some of it will be cut, obviously). It does go quite well for the Zylons but I'm not giving away any spoilers. I wish all my games went like this one does!
Spouses DLC? Sounds good to me. Could weave a really good story around that. :)
There's another thing I want to try, based on my attempt at creating a new ship class (Support). I think that I will replace Small with the Support stats and stagger the cost, size, capacity, hitpoints and logistics requirement of the larger ships a bit more. This is what I have in mind: Hull Cos
I did the first half of Episode 6 tonight. Instead of recording one long playthrough, I started and stopped when I felt there was something worth commenting on or looking at. I'm using Lightworks to bring all the video together, and with all the edits so far I've only got ten minutes of episode. But hey, I did complain that it was dragging a bit. :) I'll do the second half of the episode this afternoon (right now it's early morning) and hopefully it w
Also, I caught a couple of bugs in the Krynn tech tree. I think. Strangely wrong categories for things.
Sorry for not posting a follow-up to the first five episodes. One of the off-putting things about them is that they go on for an hour or more, usually with me doing planet maintenance, setting ship building orders, and so on. I'm not sure what players get out of me saying 'nope, let's leave those tiles empty for now,' choosing from lots of ship designs, and the endless fleeting of transports with escorts. So I think that the next episode I'm going to
I'm curious how you've managed to wear the wheels out first though. They use the same mechanical switches as the main buttons. The wheel itself is just an optical sensor with a springed peg to provide resistance, normally, so other than losing the resistance that's not really subject to wear.
Well, before going out and buying that Logitech mouse (which thankfully has been replaced) I had a Microsoft wireles
Well, basically, as far as race abilities are concerned, if you want an interesting game then you should pick for the AI. So for example, you could give the Yor points in Morale, Economy, Weapons, and Hitpoints to give them a better chance of fielding a large fleet. However, depending on the galaxy setup, there may well be another race (e.g. Drengin) that completely overshadow the other races. Each game plays out differently, and the larger the galaxy the greater the chanc
I'm writing this from the perspective of a frustrated PC gamer, so that's why I picked that category. So anyway, Logitech has graced us with a cute mouse with a touch pad instead of a mouse wheel. Seems to work fine, right up until you try to select a particular tool in Minecraft. The limitations of this device and the poor configurability are very clear there, as you frantically attempt to scroll to your sword and take out that creeper who's just spotted you
As it turned out I only managed a half-hour episode but I will pick it up today in a bit. :) Also thinking of a few little mod changes. For example, Neutrality Learning Centres. I'm going to shift them along the tech tree so that they become available after Discovery Spheres and upgrade those - which was already suggested, but I couldn't be sure if the AI would upgrade without having all the in-between buildings. Besides that, it is a major leap in research c
When you think about it, the reason why images aren't straightforward to compress is because there's a lot of pixels that are not the same colour. Higher levels of compression essentially negate the difference between colours that are almost the same, allowing more pixels to be shrunk down to x pixels of colour y. So for example, one way you could take advantage of that is to create a difference layer which tells you how the crappy compressed image is different to the or
That is true, however I would guess that many people who visit the modding section of the forum are looking for a particular mod anyway, so this way they don't have to scroll down at all. :D Edit: So yesterday I did three episodes of The Rise of the Zylons . I will try and do another few today.
So I decided that to have a little bit of fun I'm going to do a few Let's Play videos with the mod as time permits. Not so much an AAR as an over-the-shoulder look at me playing GC2 and screwing up hilariously somehow. The first episode, which runs at over an hour long, has been uploaded but it is still awaiting processing (grr). Feel free to leave some informal comments here or there. :) <p
Look under Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations II - Ultimate Edition\Twilight\MetaverseData\English - there should be a copy of the original file in there. Failing that you can get Steam to 'Verify integrity of game cache' which will make it replace your changes with the original file.
Bonus production or research is whatever you get because of any percentage bonuses to Research or Production (from abilities or otherwise). It costs half as much as base production or research. So you can judge whether you have too many research buildings by turning the funding for research up to 100% and then multiply by 2 to figure out how much bonus research you're getting at maximum. Even if the AI players are doing more research than you, you can focus on just the
Oh hey there. I recorded a mod installation video, uploaded and linked to it on the top post. Sorry about the little hesitations here and there, I had to do it three times before I got it right, and by the end my throat was getting a bit dry! :)
There is still a huge difference between laptops and desktops. I like my desktop because it can work for games, I can use it for my writing projects or for working on images, and my screen is sitting at a nice comfortable height for any of those. Don't get me wrong, I love my netbook too, but that is mostly for web surfing, reading and writing when I'm away from home. And yeah, if I could have afforded it I would have gone for a model with a bit more power, but I c
Microsoft need to just figure out what makes their odd-numbered operating systems better than the even-numbered ones. Hopefully, Windows 9 will be awesomesauce.
I like the idea of Firaxis using this to come up with a strategic turn-based XCOM game. Don't get me wrong, I like the four-to-six sized squad of soldiers taking on the aliens, but haven't you ever wanted to duke it out with a full batallion armed with plasma rifles and grenades? :)
Thanks. I appreciate the support. Things have been looking up a little bit. I'm starting to feel normal again, although I haven't picked up my game of GalCiv for some time now. On the other hand there's a fresh new hell waiting for me in the new year so, I doubt I'm going to have time or the inclination to keep updating the mod. After two years on the work programme with not even a sniff of a job, the latest fad at the jobcentres is get
Hey guys. Sorry to say but I think this may be the end of the line. Even though I've been taking anti-depressants, my depression has found a way to surface with a vengeance. I don't want to play anything any more, and I certainly don't feel like doing any modding. Thanks for the support over the years. Bye.
I've actually found that Neural Dampening can be a pain. One of your soldiers can basically be caught in a stun lock. So best to mix it up a bit and have Neural Feedback on a few soldiers - it's cheaper and if the controlling alien dies then the mind control is broken.
I increased the colony module build cost to 100 without any adverse effects, other than the fact that of course, it takes a little longer to build colony ships.
