I agree with original poster on most points here. Fleets should be able to target specific parts of a planet to destroy from orbit as well as besieging the planet (while destroying their food supplies) and this process or any invasion process should take a significant amount of time. No war on such a massive scare could really be as fast as is depicted here and the increased time would add many strategic opportunities. In addition, if you believe that

Ok I know that the dreams of a ship combat system where we give ships orders and fight out a battle and everything are not gonna happen. Yes its sad I know (at least for some of us). However, I strongly believe that having the only user input into the combat process be what ships are present and what their designs are is not nearly sufficient. Personally, I really like to feel like I have some hand in the battle itself. Therefore I have come up with this idea: <

Well assuming they're private contractors, like in many developed nations today, then they would just be doing civilian work while the government isn't employing them. I mean this applies to any non-socialist government but I doubt the developers want to make the governments this complex.

Or you know you could use like the 3rd dimension that space is so famous for and go above the formation and shoot down on it. Thats the thing about space, formations have to either be very complicated or they are useless. I think combat needs to be more detailed than just designing your ships and having them have it on the map. Even Warlords IV was more fun that (you chose one unit from your army and your opponent did the same and they fought it out til one died then

The main problem I have with this is that there is a big potential problem with balance or a very tough time on the designer's part. This is because some races, due to random galaxy creation, will just not have any habitable planets that they encounter for a long time whereas others will run into a lot more. The other problem is that a player who just happens to guess the right systems to explore will have a big advantage over those who get unlucky with their choices

Morality is relative. You can't say that one race is good and one race is evil, they are only that way from another race's persective. If we're to call races good and evil in this game then it should be based not on a simple system of races are objectively good or evil, but based the race looking at them. For example if your race has 50 "evil points" then races that are many points away would be seen as evil no matter what direction its in. Its just like capitalists and socialists. Each sees eac

I'm just curious about whether or not the combat system they have now is a temporary system that is being used for beta 2 or if they intend to implement something more complex. Even though is it kind of cool seeing the two ships firing massive amounts of stuff at each other, I personally would prefer something more complex and more strategic. I know that this game is supposed to have more focus on economics and diplomacy and such and less on combat but I still think

First of all I'd like to say that I havn't really played GC original aside from the demo and that was recently. My backgroun on these types of games comes from MoO2 and 3 mostly however I am very intrigued by this title and thats why I decided to join the beta. So lets see where to begin? I'm going to try to point out as many things that seem like they may be oversights or something and hopefully not upset anyone because they're things that aren't yet implemented or
