Gal Civ II won't load in Bug Reports GalCiv2 Forums

I just downloaded GalCiv II, w/o the expansion, and fully updated it, but the game won't boot for me properly. When I click to play in the launcher a black screen comes up and alternates several times between a full black screen and a black, empty window that takes up about half of my screen sitting up in the left hand corner.
