There are still reasons to have Farms on planets, Influence is generated by higher populations. If you're trying to win culturally or are in a stalemate and trying to prevent (or cause) some planets to flip, increasing population will help (along with cultural increasing buildings).

Yes, we are sure that social spending is wasted. Long story short, Brad (Frogboy) said it could be exploited and he's working on an eventual workaround. Later in the game I always turn my Social spending down to 10% or less. The sliders: Tax: what percent of income you're taking Spending Rate - how much you're spending of max on production (overall). 50% means a factory could produce X shields, but you're only providing enough money to produce X/2 shields.<b

Wow, is anyone else having such a poor time with the Jan-16 patch? I've gotten 3 differernt CTDs (debug.err sent in), I'm getting windows popping up out of nowhere (example - detail screen for diplomacy with a race when I was in middle of adjusting spending) and system performance has taken a huge hit, it bogs my whole system down, game runs poorly, etc. Is it me or are others seeing this?

I've just built my first colony ship, my free colony ship just colonized a planet, so only a few turns into the game. That's 4 (count them) colony ships flying out to colonize stuff.

Repeatable CTD bug. Video: GeForce 6600 GT PCI. Most recent drivers (Nov 05). GalCiv 2, most recent version, playing as human, standard settings all around, didn't change any settings. When trying to colonize a planet and getting a "special event" on the planet all the options will not react when I click on them. I cannot click on "done" in the corner either. The only option I have figured out is to kill it via task manager
