I'd post a longer thing... but Kai summed up what I've seen. (Huge/Gigantic games in Crippling - Suicidal difficulty) The AI picks a fair diversity of techs... the last game I played (Huge/Sucidal) they used mostly missle tech (both offensive and defensive). What needs work is their build strategy (planets they own are horribly put together) and their build strategy for ships (no engines, etc).

Hmm - when I get Rangers they're always outdated - granted, I'm playing only Huge/Gigantic maps so the game does tend to drag out a lot longer than the other ones. As to the parent - The AI doesn't count at all what you've taken from them, how far ahead you are in technology, how much better your economy is, or how much of their stuff you've killed... all they care about is that they have a higher military rating than you thus are 'stronger'

Odd - the last game I played I was really annoyed since the AI would grab any resources I opened up (via killing starbases) before I could get to them... I'll have to watch that behavior a lot more closely in my next game.

Odd... I posted this last night (well, I've gotta rewrite the entire thing) but it looks like it got deleted. Anyways, here're a couple of issues I'm finding with the game... (I do quite love it though) 1) Arms Race - Instead of actually going to war with one another the different AI races will just build a ton of ships so that nobody will attack them... and they rarely go to war with each other on their own accord (this is playin

My strategy - small ships (and second line... those which survive the previous war) stay back in my territory to defend or crawl along behind the larger ships (ships of the line) to hold territory that they've taken out the opposing fleets. Once the major enemy opposition is out of the way the front line ships advance to the next area and all the smaller/weaker ones hang back until I can get transports up to take out the planets. It works fa

I love the minor races - they're what keeps me afloat in the earlier stages of the crippling difficulty level. Since your diplomancy is so much more than theirs they hand you technology without any problems, they have great economies so they're a great place to get cash when you run low, and later in the game when you have a stable economy (for me that means the ability to run 100% spending with a surplus) they have great planets to steal.

You guys stink... my homework is suffering. (Alas, I was away all of the last week on spring break, so you couldn't suck me into the black hole of GalCiv II that week!)

Hey all, Playing Galactic Civ II has brought one thing to my attention (big time). When I'm playing... it always seems that at some point some other race will get the idea that they can defeat me (which somehow never seems to work), so they demand a huge tribute from me... then go to war when I refuse to pay it. The problem that occurs it because of the alliance system in short I have literally every other race in the game (often a couple mi
