Galactic War / Alliances

Hey all,

Playing Galactic Civ II has brought one thing to my attention (big time). When I'm playing... it always seems that at some point some other race will get the idea that they can defeat me (which somehow never seems to work), so they demand a huge tribute from me... then go to war when I refuse to pay it. The problem that occurs it because of the alliance system in short I have literally every other race in the game (often a couple minor races thrown in) now running to attack me (Race A is allied with B which is allied with C... and so on) despite any previous relationships with them (they can be close, etc... it doesn' t matter).

Is there any way to change the considerations that races have when they're faced with going to war due to an alliance (giving them the option to break an alliance, etc instead of going into war) or to stop these super alliances from *always* forming? (I can understand them forming if you're a huge race thats bent on destruction, but not in every situation)

I think I remember Brad saying that Alliances will be changed so that it is only a defence package (ie; You attack race A that is allied with race B, race B is now in the war to defend race A). So if an allied race attacks you, their ally isnt dragged into the war from the start. I dont know if this will be changed for the release or if it will be and update later on.

Brad (aka Frogboy) also said the AI was being tweaked to be less likely to go to war against more than 1 race at a time. I'm really looking forward to that change, having the entire game at war with you and throwing themselves ineffectively against your starbases is really no fun.

Alliances have been changed to be defensive in nature.

So it is like a non-agression pact?

Awesome... so the big thing that got to me will be all well when the games goes gold. (Would've done more for the whole beta testing thing... but the computer I was running would overheat if I ran GalCiv II or anything else that made the processor go full tilt for a time (it was a laptop))

Oh, that brings a question to mind.

What are the specifications and requirements needed to run GC2 on your computer?

Sorry If it has been stated before, but I havent seen it anywhere yet.

Just as an FYI, I used to sell Alliances to all the AI players as soon as I researched it to tie them up in endless wars. It doesn't work with the Gamma. I don't know how much of that the change in alliances is responsible for, and how much is the change in the AI, but I never saw more than two war lines on the relationships page. Maybe an overcorrection, but it was still a fun game.
