Who did we give the gift to? in Game Talk GalCiv2 Forums

If the humans gave many of the other races the hyper-drive technology, then why do you not know about them in the game till you run across them again? Its like "Hello, here is the technology that will allow you to travel among the stars, see you later" Or why are some civs pissed at you from the start? I mean you gave them a free tech!
