My list of stupid AI tricks come in at diplomacy and declaring war. 1. Declaring war on me and/or an ally when one of us is the strongest in the civilization. Happens far too often. 2. Inviting me to attack a civilization (the Drengin did this when attacking the Arceans) that is my ally. Naturally, they proceeded to declare war, and a few turns later were wiped out. 3. Out of boredom, I paid the Drath to declare war on an ally, which resulted in my declaring war on the

I generally like your ideas about spying. But this last one isn't in accord with reality, oddly enough. If we look at analogies in real life, it's actually much harder to spy on smaller countries than on larger ones. Look at how little is known about North Korea, even by the South Koreans, but how much was known by the US about the USSR, not to mention how much the USSR knew about the US. <
My point with tech trading is that it is much more compelling and sensible if both parties actually care about what they are trading. It doesn't make sense to me that I offer the computer laser for... i dunno, farming... when the computer's researching down the missile tech branch. The computer should have some strategic sense for whether the technology being offered is going to be useful. Creating an artificial imbalance in the value of the trade (well, maybe a slight imbalance still works) doe
I've played galciv, galciv2, and now DA. The games have definitely improved substantially over time. I've been irritated though at how the human's handed a huge advantage over the players in what the game makes visible as part of the interaction. First, espionage. It has already been brought up. You place a spy on a planet, and as part of placing a spy you see what's on the planet. You're forced to affect production, and you get substantial knowledge you should only have after gaining h
Osiris, the war declaration explicitly mentioned massing transports on their borders.
Skyjack, it isn't about seeing influence spheres. It is that my transports are in space that is at the other end of the map from the torians, and the only explanation for their declaring war seems to be that the transports were gathering near an influence base of theirs that was in the middle of my planets.
I was playing terrans, and had been assembling transports to attack the yor. This happened to be near a torian influence base deep in my territory. The torians took this as a threat to themselves, and declared war on me. Seems like a bug in the AI? The torians, btw, are at the other end of the map from me with the altarians in between us. So the declaration of war can't make sense any other way.
The grey could be the ship range and not the influence zone. Is the right option selected on the minimap?
I've got a game running presently on 1.10[b3].015. In it, the Iconians have been trying to build a political capital. I get a message each and every turn that they have completed a political capital. There's only one planet on which they are trying to build it, and that shows the political capital under construction with one turn remaining. Any idea what might be happening? Do you need any information to reproduce/debug this?
I just traded pd combo for supreme miniaturization with the arceans (the most powerful civ), and *after that* gave point defence II & III to get them to attack the torians (who are at #2). This is with diplomatic translators and galactic bazaar and a bunch of yellow techs, on tough.
Getting back to the original problem, seems the solution is straightforward: 1. Put a minimum troop count for various invasion tactics. 2. Make the damage from various tactics proportional to the troop count. Attacking a planet with one soldier should obviously have no effect.
Here's my laundry list: I like the idea of having additional diplomatic options. I'm most frustrated by having to use the mouse all the time. Most of the dialogs require you to move the mouse and select OK or some such. Seeing ships on the minimap is all but impossible. It would be good to be able to select individual civs whose ships ought to be displayed. There is no way to visualize the IP from your planet
