Couldn't find this anywhere obvious, so here we go... Occassionally when I start up the game I get a black screen. If I let it sit, I'll hear the intro playing. If I skip the intro, I can hear the mouse moving over the buttons, but still all is black. Restart after restart of the game and it's always the same. _My_ resolution is to rename the .ini file in my profile. Once I do this I am able to launch the game with proper display. I can then

I too see this. The ships reappear after they have moved and I'm able to select them while they are sitting there invisible. It's been like this for me since release AFAIK. Nvidia 5950 video card. Search on my other posts for complete specs. Blif

I see white ships from time to time in the editor, but they're fine when I'm playing. *shrugs* Luck with that. GeForce 5950 if it matters to SD. Blif

IIRC, it's not that it needs that specific type of defense....it just needs to have a single piece of defensive equipment on board. So if your starbase adds +3 to beam defense, you can have as little as a +1 missile, mass driver, OR beam defense and you'll get the +3 to beam as well. Blif

I have the mouse issue on a 5950. Didn't happen for the first week with the release download. Happens fairly quickly if I forget to enable the hardware cursor. Let me know if you need more info. This was, from what people were telling me, going to be fixed in this last patch. It is, right now, my biggest gripe with the game. I was told by people in the chat that it could be worked around by swapping out production of the ship you're upgrading so that no starports were building that design, upgrade, and swap back in, but I still got this corruption. Guess it's back to clicking on the "upgrade" button and renaming the vessel. *sigh* <br

I'm running 1.0X and it still occurs for me. (only started 2 days ago) I'm on a 6950 and don't have the theme installed. Also, if you didn't know, switching to the hardware cursor appears to resolve the issue. I just keep wiping my prefs.ini and forgetting to change it back. Blif

Eek! No! As someone who races for the Eyes of the Universe, I'm already screwed by the sensor patch that was put in and am seriously hoping that they fix the original issue and remove the band-aid. If THEY have an issue with sensor barges, then might I suggest limiting the maximum number of sensors that may be used on any one vessel. Otherwise it's just a tool, use it or not. Blif

For what it's worth, I've 2GB of ram and the last time I noticed this issue happen, the game was using just a hair under 800MB; so this may or may not be related to the memory leak that has been mentioned in other threads. Next time I start a new game and have a fresh ship list I'll pay closer attention and let y'all know when I notice it again. Blif

I've been having the following issue since my first game: I design a Constructor and Colony ship on my first turn. As my tech increases I upgrade my designs. I don't always upgrade the ships associated with the designs, but I always upgrade the design. As the turns pass, something gets mucked up. Even though I can goto a planet and in the Build Ship interface show that I am building the sole design I have availabe, the ships that are co
