I miss Terror Stars from Gal Civ 1.. I hope they get it in the game again. Soooooo much easier to destroy a planet out-right, rather than build up a fleet, kill off defenders, then build transports..etc etc. The problem was, they could only move ONE space at a time. Oh well.

Ah, this must be why I love the Galciv Series so much; I'm a Logic major! lol. I love both the number/logic/strategic part of the game, and the other fun stuff too! Long live GalCIV!!

I tried for about 30 mins to make the USS Enterprise, then gave up and focused on the important stuff. But I am wondering..will there be a mod/patch in the future which allows one to have a pre-made Enterprise? (Or death star, or X-win, etc)? It would be nice, once one has research a certain hull type (huge, for example) to have a pre-made ship like that, ready to have the weapons/defenses attached.

I am sure this has been brought up before, as it is a terribly annoying 'bug' which others have no doubt noticed..but I cant seem to find a post for it, so I thought I'd make one. The start locations are, to put it mildly, flawed. I need to CTRL-N 20 times before I can find a decent map. Most of the time, several of the races are lumped together, with one or two off by themselves. This leads to a lop-sidded galaxy where the 2 power houses sw

Yeah I never build small ships either..I go for med or large first, and then trade for the necessary weapons/defense techs. After I build up a good fleet to hold off any nearby enemies (like u said, on huge maps, u dont have to worry about distant empires), I focus on social/research almost entirely. By the time I am ready to build Huge ships, all my planets are developed and the univerise is ripe for conquest <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T

Well, one can currently alter the angle of hardpoints...and combined with the fact that there are a TON of hardpoints as it is, I dont think any improvement is necessary.

They never attacked me or anything, and when they demanded anything I gave in to it... so any declaration of war was both A) without my knowledge and B) without obvious provocation. And I did notice that relations were Hostile, but I really dont want to keep checking it every turn to see if they've declared war.. it should pop up in the GNN or something, but it doesnt!

Yeah, I never planned on getting CE, but it's all that wally-world had so I bought it. There are a few interesting extra's so far as the Shipyard is concerned..14 sounds about right, but nothing too spectacular. And the printed tech-tree is nice, but not necessary.

Yes, I've had the same bug (having war delcared without my knowledge). Are the developers aware of this problem? I have the newest patch, and yet I recently had the Yor contact me with a peace offering, despite my not being aware they ever declared war.

I am not trying to critsize, but I have two tips for you: one, DO trade your techs for other techs. It's a great way to increase your tech level. Yes, you'll be slightly helping out a Civ by giving your techs, but you'll be improving yourself 10-fold. I like to build up techs for a bit, and then do business with EVERY SINGLE race. After one trip through every civ, you'll find yourself with a ton of extra techs..which you can immediately use to trade for MORE techs in that same turn. Very effecti

GalCiv I veteran here.. but I'm new to GalCiv II and I am still trying to nail down this new tile-based-planet idea. Is it truly the best method to completely specialize my worlds? (1 for only tech, 2 for only money, 2 for only ships, etc). And also, for my ship-production worlds, is it advisable to use the majority of my tiles to build factories? Or is it a waste to build more than 1 factory per world? Thanks for any advice.

I am a veteran of GalCiv I, and I recall that stellar cartography allowed one to view which planets are/are not habitable via the mini-map...is this not the case with GalCiv II? I cant seem to find a way to tell what class a planet is via the mini-map..??

I havent got GalCiv II yet, but I'm a huge GalCiv fan.. do you mean to say that the new game doesnt allow you to scroll simply by pushing your mouse against the screen 'wall'? I agree that click/drag scrolling is annoying... what could possibly be easier than flicking your mouse to the left and letting the screen scroll to the left..?

Adding new depth to the Diplomacy menu is something I've heard a lot about. Hopefully they can make some strong improvements for GalCiv 2. I love Strat games but most of them are lacking in fundemental areas (Diplo, Research, etc) But GalCiv is right up there with the best of them. PS: Do you play CIvilizations? I cant wait to compare GalCiv 2 with the latest Civ game...should be a close one.

Good point, it's always pretty linear in Strategy games. Civilizations, Total War, GalCv, etc all seem to have the same tech tree theory. It's pretty inevitible, but from what I've heard about galciv 2, it's less of a problem. But I do like your idea about doing several different research projects at once. It's more realistic. There could be a seperate slider to determine how much of the overal research spending goes into the different research projects. And

Drachir, I think you might be over simplifying (Though a Cold War is a good example of what Omega was talking about) What I took from his comments, was that Gamers/Designers focus too much on raw conflict and neglect other aspects. And when dealing with conflict (without which the game wouldnt be very much fun) not nearly enough is done. Currently, GalCiv is too generic and static. EVERY race in Galciv, had the same goal - even our happy-go-lucky little green friends - to conquer everyone else.
