I am also having this same problem in DA, DL seems to not have the problem only DA. In DA on a large galaxy I'll be able to get most of the tech tree completed and about 90% of the galaxy is populated before it will CTD with an "Unable to write to memory error) and on a huge galaxy I can get about half way through tech tree and galaxy population then CTD, I haven't tried a gigantic galaxy yet. One thing that I have noticed is the game doesn't appear to actually be using any of my swap file reg
