I've been able to start a campaign now, after rebooting a couple of times. And my custom race seems to have reappeared (?) However, the game is stuttery, even the music is scratchy, like if my system had problems handling the game (performance). Also, after leaving the game it takes about a minute for the mouse pointer to reappear on the desktop! I had none of these problems before. I applied the 2.0 update through Impulse to GC II and Dark Avatar. After that, first of all I noticed that my custom race has disappeared. I loved that custom race and I don't remember how I created it before. Worst, I can't start a game, I get a blue screen of death crash. Something about atiduag.dll and dumping the memory. This sucks.

In Star Trek, everyone is so zealous about their "space" (such a big deal for huge amounts of nothing, it is planets that matter in any galactic strategy). However, I wish that there was some respect for one's claimed terrritory in GC2. Specifically, I would like that once you claim a solar system all planets therein become yours, colonized or not, like it was in GC1. I just hate it when someone comes parachuting into a system in the middle of my empire, even to the point of dropping a

Got it! Cool, my custom race the Solarians is complete!

No luck. Any size or file type requirements? I put an 85 x 85 jpg file. BTW the folder was empty before I put my picture, shouldn't the standard pics be there?

8 Replies 7,254 Views

I see it (duh). Now, how can I put a picture that I made as that race's picture? And also, can I create and save several custom races or just one?

Can custom races be given super abilities, and if yes how?

8 Replies 7,254 Views

Thanks. How are super abilities used (I don't mean switched on but actually used in-game) or are they passive? As Human, the Thorian once told me he accepted an interview only because of my superdiplomacy, but I don't know how to "use" it otherwise. Also, I always like to play as Human but they seem to be at a great disadvantage in DA because of the toxic planet abilities that other races already have (and don't like to trade despite my "huge advantage in diplomacy" mentioned in the tra

Hi, I'm a veteran of GC I and II. I really enjoyed GC I! I liked GC II, especially the graphics, but didn't have such a barrel-full of monkeys as with GC I, and after a while it became a bit stale. OK after reading all the raves I decided to try Dark Avatar. I've been playing a while but aside from asteroid fields to harvest and some planets not being immediately available for colonization (which to me feels like an additional hurdle, not much fun), the game feels exactly like Dreadlord

I already have the latest version. Strange, I have not seen crashes for quite a while and I've been playing a lot. Since my last previous post in fact. I'm not sure if I did something to make the game more stable. Only thing, I set hardware mouse to prevent the mouse cursor bug.

I'm somewhat confused with the customize civilization function. When you first open a civ, it has default abilities, say, for Altarian, Economics +10, Morale +20, Luck + 30, Creativity +30, and Logistics +5. Now if you enter the abilities tab, only Economics +10 and Morale + 20 are kept, and it says you get 5 points. I assume the 5 points come from dropping Luck, Creativity, and Logistics. However, in customization you cannot achieve those stats. The best you can get is +25 (not +30)

Well the bad grammar actually gives it that "original Japanese game" flavor Memories of my early Nintendo RPG's... What I do find a bit annoying is the funny/careless descriptions of techs and ships. I mean they say things like, "This tech is way cool, and will let us, like, really go places!" or "I fight. That's what I do." I don't even read them

I have frequent CTD's when saving, obsoleting, or deleting designs, and they most certainly are named differently from in-game designs. I also have suffered other bugs like the mousepointer dissapearing, after a design save. In fact all the CTD's that I have suffered so far (quite a few) have been while working at the shipyard.

Ever since I started playing the game, the Continue Game button is grayed out. I always have to load games directly. When does this button come into existence?

I just suffered the mouse pointer bug mentioned elsewhere. The mouse disappeared, although I could still move it around (invisible!) However, the thing is, it happened immediately after saving a design. It would be interesting to see if other people who have experimented crashes and bugs, did so while saving/obsoleting/deleting shipyard designs. Maybe I hit on something here?

13 Replies 7,065 Views

OK Here it is. BTW, the missing-previously-obsoleted ships bug occurs only after a shipyard crash. This seems like a bug to me. If I obsolete a core ship, for instance colony or constructor, it does not appear as buildable when I begin a new game. Obsolete or deleted core ships should reappear fresh if a new game is started! For that matter, player designs should NOT carry on to new games. Maybe I want to begin a game with a different approach to my designer ships, and all those weird and not very efficient designs from my last game keep

Speaking about the 1024 x 768 res requirement... Most modern games fix the resolution when they start to whatever they require, then when they shut down they restore the monitor to the original resolution. Is it possible to make GC II do this? It would be great. My 17" CRT's native res is 800 x 600, sure it accepts greater values but everything on the desktop looks tiny and strains these old rheumy eyes <img src="http://images.stardock.com
