Beta 2 download problems!

Beta 2 download problems!

Report/Vent here!

By 8pm EST tonight beta 2 should be available and it's using our new (and largely untested in a large scale) distributed network environment we've been working on for the past several months which should, in theory, provide secure downloads at very very high speeds.

You download via Stardock Central.

However, if it doesn't work for you, report here.  Some things to make sure of:

1) Make sure you pre-ordered the game already or have an active TotalGaming.net subscription.

2) Make sure you are using the California server (you shouldn't have to worry about this but..). From SDC that's tools->settings->Internet

3) Make sure you have your serial # in there. That's tools->settings->Galactic Civilizations II (or TotalGaming.net if you have an active subscription to hat).

4) Make sure you have "Show pre-release versions" checked off at the bottom of SDC.

5) Make sure the email you used to buy the game is the same one you are using for your Stardock.net account.  This is important since it doesn't just know who you are. It has to match the email addresses when it activates it.

If all that fails, respond here.  We will be working on this.  Also, please report if it worked fine for you so that we can at least know others are able to use it fine.

NoXak,

I believe I have isolated the problem and have corrected it.  Please try again and let us know if that has corrected it.

Sorry, but I am unable to start the game. I can download the game, but can't start it. I've checked the serial number under tools and also in the popup box when I try to start the game. Why does it ask me for my serial number if I already have included in my Stardock Central profile?

That said, I've also gone into my firewall program and told it to let Stardock Central do what it wants. FYI, I also have the latest version of SD Central installed. Can anyone help?

Never mind, it was a serial number problem. Still don't understand what's going on for sure. I have an email from my GalCiv2 purchase with one serial number - that one didn't work.

But just for kicks I requested my serial number again via email. For whatever reason, that has a totally different serial number! And that one worked . . .

Anyway, the game is really looking nice, look forward to trying it out further.

I got problems too

My SDC crashes when it tries to update itself and if I don't allow it to then it just gives me a blank Games tab and a 'Working' icon that never ends - I've left it alone for more than an hour and still no games listing...

Update: SDC updated but now won't run...

Are you SURE you input the serial number? On the email purchase confirmation, there is a big purchase invoice number that is shown first, then the game serial number is further down in the email. You may have entered the wrong one.

I might have fixed mine. I just went to Setting and clicked on "Lookup Serial Number...". I then received an email with my account information and my serial numbers for GalCiv I and II. Surprisinhly, my GalCiv II serial had changed. I pasted the new serial in and it registered fine. Now I am downloading the update and hoping that it will work...don't know why it should.

I will post the outcome. I'm in Namibia at the moment so it is taking forever. I am downloading at 1-1.5 kb/s...so it should take a while.

It worked! Guys, just click on "Lookup Serial Number..." in the "Settings" and you should receive your new, fixed serial for GC2.

It took me about 6 hours to download 38MB...now I must download the Multimedia package which is 57MB...talk to you guys tomorrow.

SWEET!!!! haha, the newest update for "stardock" allowed me to download all updates as well as GalCiv2, I'll let you know what i think! Thanks!

Yep, Proud Canadian, I doublechecked - the original invoice had both invoice number (which I did not use) and a serial number, which I did use. That said, it appears others are confirming my experience.

I cannot even play the game, every time I try I get the following message "The product appears to be validated but the serial number or the machine SID don't match" what gives? What is the problem?

I never got my serial number after I preordered it. I had made sure I had put in the right email, but never got it. Is there a way you could possibly resend it?

Since last Saturday I have had the , error activating the product problem. Having suffering some problems in the Galciv I beta and seeing the problem solved in a couple of days, I thought this would be same here. Been trying the suggestions and restalling three times and still no luck.

I thought with the Galciv II update that maybe the activating the product problem had been fixed. Didn't happen for me. Can anyone point me to the right person to contact to help me with this problem. I signed up with the TotalGaming Network to get into the GalCiv II beta, not to be an activation product beta tester.

Thanks any any help

Glen

Hi guys, I've pointed the proper people to this thread. If you still have problems, please send an e-mail to [email protected] with your name and e-mail address that you created your Stardock.net account, and tell him what operating system you are using, if you have any firewalls, and what kind of Internet connection you have.  Also please give him any error codes that you may have received.

Yogert, you can select Lookup Serial number from SDC to get your serial number.

I did, but it only came up with my original GalCiv serial number. I sent an email to stardock with my purchase invoice number thingy, so they could resend it to me. Any idea how long it will take to get a response?=P

The sales team was just moving into the new building today so there may be a delay, but I would imagine that they would get back to you on Monday.

So if you don't have a serial number, you don't see GC2 in the list of games, right?

Yes, correct.

I updated GC 2 and it messed up my entire TGN games folder. Nothng runs now. I tried to reinstall GC 2 and the activation menu came up, I did not know what to do with it (forgot what Cari told me) and click cancel. Now GC 2 will not load assuming its due to canceling activation. I thought it checked to see if I am a valid TGN member and that is it.

I must be missing it, but I don't see anywhere to input my TG.net serial in the new SDC (build 94). I receive an "Installation Failed (9)" error message when I attempt to install it.

- Using the California server
- Email address matches

Am I supposed to put the TG.net serial in the GC2 registration field? If so that's not working either.

Help please

**EDIT**
I'm getting the same error message when I try to install any of the phase1 Drengin/TG.net titles as well (The Corporate Machine, Lightweight Ninja, etc)

-- [Account] --------------------------------------------------------

Result: Installation failed (9)

Mr. Spook - I've let the others know about your problem so that we can get you sorted out.

johna - Checking on this as well. You shouldn't need to put in your old Drengin.net / TotalGaming serial number anymore and shouldn't use it for the other games. Stardock Central will automatically do this when you start it up and it logs into your account.

jona10093,   it appears the problem is that Stardock Central is not handling all non alphanumeric characters in the password string properly.  We are working on a fix for this but in the mean time you may want to try changing your password temporarily using alphanumeric characters.

Mr Spook,

Curious, did you Run GalCiv II first before attempting running any of the other games?  Also, have you tried rebooting your system then running the other games.  I'm wonding if this is a GalCiv II or a Stardock Central issue?

I'm still experiencing the activation bug too

Reinstalled SDC, switch to California server and reinstalled GalCiv II, but still that stupid popup window!
Does it have anything to do with the fact that I'm not installing the game into the standard directory?

Besides that when uninstalling SDC via the normal route, it locks up all the time, so I had to manually remove all the files and registry keys...

Ah the ' lookup serial' trick finally did it for me too, yay!
