Beta 2 download problems!

Beta 2 download problems!

Report/Vent here!

By 8pm EST tonight beta 2 should be available and it's using our new (and largely untested in a large scale) distributed network environment we've been working on for the past several months which should, in theory, provide secure downloads at very very high speeds.

You download via Stardock Central.

However, if it doesn't work for you, report here.  Some things to make sure of:

1) Make sure you pre-ordered the game already or have an active TotalGaming.net subscription.

2) Make sure you are using the California server (you shouldn't have to worry about this but..). From SDC that's tools->settings->Internet

3) Make sure you have your serial # in there. That's tools->settings->Galactic Civilizations II (or TotalGaming.net if you have an active subscription to hat).

4) Make sure you have "Show pre-release versions" checked off at the bottom of SDC.

5) Make sure the email you used to buy the game is the same one you are using for your Stardock.net account.  This is important since it doesn't just know who you are. It has to match the email addresses when it activates it.

If all that fails, respond here.  We will be working on this.  Also, please report if it worked fine for you so that we can at least know others are able to use it fine.

Gaaah!

I'm now in the same boat as the person above me...

I tried running Beta 2.005 and SDC 2.09.339b90 but activate.exe wouldn't activate the game. I decided to do a fresh install. I uninstalled Galciv2, and now it no longer appears on my list of games. I tried uninstalling SDC, rebooting, installing SDC v2.05, updating to SDC 2.09.339b90, setting the server to California, and turning on the pre-releases. No luck.

Oddly enough, I can see Galciv2 in my registration window.

P.S. On the reg screen, what's this "buy tokens" button? And where did TG.net go? Basegolf didn't come up as the #1 choice in the drop down menu box before.

Since I'm having the same problem as buffedub, I thought I'd mention that I was set to the California server and have the pre-release versions box checked. Reboots do not make a difference here.

The reason why you don't see Galciv2 is because the new version of SDC is screwed up somehow. Version 2.05 shows Beta 2.005, but SDC V2.09 doesn't...

Weird.

More info...

My Galciv2 SN is now totally screwed up. SDC won't even tell me its good any more. I've sent a letter to support asking them about this.

Meanwhile...

The debug.err file that says...
Debug Message: Version v 0.2 (Beta 2 Build 1) last updated on: Tue Jun 14 14:16:03 2005
Debug Message: Could not find a TGN Serial No.

... is being generated BEFORE I enter anything into ACTIVATE. Heck, ACTIVATE isn't even trying to access the 'net at this point.

I am still not getting the Beta 2 download on the current Stardock Central Update.

Upon Fresh deinstall of SDC. Installed v2.05.319 build 83.

I have no GalCiv2 Directory to speak of.

I set my internet settings to point to Cali Servers

I start to download GalCiv2 0.20[b].005
The install bar says validating product registration
proceeds to download the files
after it downloads gc2.sdc it explodes the files out
finally last but not least it says activating product
then you get a window that says Gal Civ have been successfully installed.

So happily and excited with anticipation and bated breath I right click and select Run Application
then to my great surprise I get the Activate Screen.

GUYS/GALS: This is about the 20th time iIve done this (i'm sure your servers will show that not to be an exageration). Each with the same result, in the end no matter what I do I'm getting the Activate Screen, even if the system would appear to go though the activation process automagically during the install process.

What do I need to do?

SDC installed GalCiv2 into the following directory
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming.net\GalCiv2

Also there is no a sig.bin file in my GalCiv2 folder below is a list of files/folders that do exist

Activate.exe
binkw32.dll
CryptoUtilAX.dll
Data
debug.err
eula.txt
Fonts
GalCiv2.exe
GCConfig
Gfx
history.txt
Lib3D.dll
list.txt
readme.txt
Screens
SDNetLib.dll

Andrew,

From what I've been told, the problem is that SDC isn't auto-activating. They're going to try another fix tomorrow. Hopefully this one won't take Galciv2 off the games menu.

Andrew Evans,

I hope that you understand that if you hack or crack GalCiv2, you will be kicked out of the beta, and that we would be justified in bringing legal action against you.  I understand that you are frustrated, but making threats is not going to help.  I have documented this incident and I hope that there will be no cause on your part for us to act further.

O.K.

GOOD NEWS!!

For those who only have a serial number. All you have to is just go under Stardock Central, Tools, Product Rigerstration. Then just type in your serial number.

BAD NEWS

I just talked to a Stardock tech and the tech told me they are having problems with the serial number installation.
The tech also inform me that evert thing should be hopefully up and running by tomorrow.

Actually, we should have another build of SDC up today that will fix some of the activation issues. We are currently looking into compatibility issues between the activation code and Windows 9x.

I'm really sorry about all the problems, guys, and I want to assure you that the team that works on SDC central and the activation code are working hard to get everything running smoothly.

I had know idea that this was going to be a major hassel just for a single game.

I hope they fix this. Other wise, my head going start turning 360 degrees.

I dying to play it.

Cough... hhumm.. CariElf

My comments about the google search was a joke/sarcasm as were other portions of my post , not to be taken seriously and certainly was not a threat. However, I understand now how sensitive the matter is and will refrain from making references in the future about the forementioned topic. I still reserve the right to be scarastic, witty, stupid, ignorant, tenacious, and meticulous.

By the way thanks for answering my posts on not only this message thread but others pertaining to the same problem. While support hasn't written back yet (despite thier claim up to 2 business days) its been nice to get support though this fourm.

If you don't hear from them by tomorrow morning, e-mail me and I'll check with to support to find out what's going on, but I suspect that they're just really busy there because of the problems with SDC and the gc2 beta activation, on top of the normal workload.

Thanks for the stepping up to the plate CariElf.

Now that I've been offically labeled as a troublemaker, (with my own personal file at Stardock don't you wish you had one maybe not.

I have to report that todays release fixed the issues that I was seeing for activation .

Uninstalled GalCiv2 Beta .. installed the new SDC version
Rebooted
Installed the GalCiv2 Beta (yet again)
Ran program - No longer seeing activation window

I could not verify the game actually runs because I'm Terminal Serviced in remotely (TS doesnt play nice with Active X or anything graphical for that matter). But I am going to say its working as intended.

-Thanks

Hi, just read through the posts, and I think my problem is somewhat unique unfortunately... I am attempting to download / install GalCiv. II using "stardock". I've registered the serial I recieved by email and I get a message saying it was registered successfully... great, so I try to update or install Anything from stardock and I get this error message saying some registration failed?????? so I click the View Log button and here's what it says:

Hope that makes sense to someone.... oh and I'll "x" out my serial.... there, thanks for any help. Also, I'm on the california server and I do have a network router, let me know if there is a port I need to allow or anyhting like that,, I don't know..

It says Installed is false... maybe the computer doesn't think its installed or maybe i hasn't yet but it needs to be it gets really confusing even to a true evil genius. we should all be cyborgs so anyone can understand computer language! *yells*
Reply #46 Top
lol, well I'd try installing it if I could download it, that's my problem, I get the error when I try to download it. Is there a link I didn't get in an email or something? I thought this stardock program was supposed to let me download it.... this is so weird. I just want to get my $45 beta! lol I guess I can wait... whatever.
2) Make sure you are using the California server (you shouldn't have to worry about this but..). From SDC that's tools->settings->Internet

After downloading I found this thread. Then I checked to see what server my SDC was set to. Even though it was set to "Chicago", it seems to have downloaded GC2B2 without complaint. I see that using the California server will help by enabling some diagnostic tools of some sort, but is that the only reason
Reply #48 Top
Hmm, yea i get the same error :"Error: Failed to validate your subscription or product information.
Result: Installation failed (9)" whether it's ont he chicago or california server... Do any tech support member check these forums? I'm just wondering cause it's been impossible for me to get any serious help by email. I emailed some questions and problems and recieved only automated responses, but a few problems seemed to be magically fixed after I emailed them..... lol. Now that error is my only problem, I hope, so if I could just get it to download then I cna try to install it. Getting an error saying any subscription or product information failed seems so weird to me since it validated the serial number. I've tried both serial numbers that I recieved by email from stardock and BOTH work, and one of the serials was entered into my "object desktop" registration.... and it still worked for galciv2..... PLEASE HELP ME! lol

Hi gang,

We're looking into this. Please be sure that you're using the same email address and password in Stardock Central as you used when you ordered the game. Otherwise the system has no way of knowing/verifying that you should have access to it.

yea I'm positive it's the correct email and password. I still haven't heard anyhting from either sales or support though. I don't know what the deal is, I just can't download anything from "stardock" even updates for galciv1.
