Is this intentional or a bug?

I started a game on a gigantic galaxy with 7 opponents on tough.  I thought that all my foreign relations had read "Close" but suddenly the Krynn attacked me, without a formal declaration of war.  Is that supposed to happen?  Attacking without warning?  I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Are you now set to "At War" in the diplomacy screen?

If not, then this bug I have seen randomly in DA & TA. Most cases are due to an AI sending troop ships at another opponent's planet. It flips to you via influence the round prior, yet it is still set to invade. This I believe is due to the AI going while you are going...and that planet flip is done at the very beginning of your turn. The only thing that really waits until after you hit turn is ship movement.

Yes, it went to At War. There was no troop transport involved. They blew up one of my mining vessels...as if he had done anything to deserve that! Naturally, I wiped the floor with them in return.  :CONGRAT:

You, sir, just got hoodwinked.

Don't tell me you haven't done the same - been all chummy-chummy with a race, gotten 'friendly' or 'close' and then, once you were sidled up alongside, you gave them a smile while you kicked them in the balls.

The AI just tried to do the same to you. ;)

I love your depiction/analogies for what just happened here.
