Multiplayer?

Hello!

I have the Gold Edition with the Twilight-Addon.

Is there any way (mods, etc.) to play this game over LAN or hotseat?

No.

There is a cheat that allows you to switch control to another race, but as far as I know it has a few bugs, since it was never intended as hotseat substitution.

No, in fact the game is so good because it DOESN'T have multiplayer. ;)

for example look at civilization. the fun is the multiplayer-part.

galactic civ is nearly the same system like civilization.

this game is is not going to get multiplayer added to it,.. this subject has been beat to death about it. Frogboy has no intention on making it MP. you are not the first one whom thinks the game would be much better with MP as it is. It is much better with out it!!!

Hope that answer your question on MP

Because most gamers are not multiplayers. They are, in fact, single players.

And because Brad doesn't want it to be multiplayer. If you want a multiplayer Stardock game, get PM2008. I'll play you. Heck, I'll even lose, probably, and you can get a 'speshul ego-boost'.

Unfortunately, The Political Machine v1.1 wasn't ready by the Impulse launch so we had to hide the "Games" button from the community area for multiplayer match making. As soon as it's ready, the button will come back and players will be able to find games either there or within The Political Machine itself. Other games that will be using it include Sins of a Solar Empire, Galactic Civilizations II v2.0, and Demigod. -- Frogboy

From Brad's Impulse Launch Review

That seems to imply that v2.0 will contain some multiplayer functionality beyond what's currently offered via the metaverse, though I have no idea what that might be.

Civ4's multiplayer is buggy, and boring and gay even setting the bugginess aside, and Civ4 as an overall game is hurt by the fact that multiplayer considerations were factored in when balancing the game.

It's just not possible to make a good multiplayer system in a turn based strategy game. Best thing to do is go the Stardock route and not try to do the impossible.

well, personally, i don't see any reason why Gal.Civ.2 shouldn't have mp... when i read Frogboy's attitude towards mp, i think that the main reason for not having mp is balance issues, and while i can almost instantly name 10 and more things that would be totally unbalanced if mp should ever be implemented, i don't think balance is such a big deal... for eg. i've played Europa Universalis 3 in mp quite a bit, and hell knows it could be totally unbalanced, like one player playing with France and other player starting as say Tyrone (a province in Ireland)... put to Gal.Civ.2 terms its like one player starting with a race that can choose 3-4 super abilities and 2nd player starting with minor race... but even so, i didn't find mp in EU3 unplayable or bad and such, it was quite amusing..

also i couldn't categorize GC2 players as teenagers screaming noob and pwnzor and whatnot, actually i could describe them as adults acting like adults and eager to spend a couple of hours every weak playing something slow and relaxing.. as such, while i would expect a number of balancing issues complaints (if mp should ever be implemented) i don't see why Frogboy or someone else from Sdock couldn't just make a sticky saying simply "this game is not made for mp; the only reason why we've put it in is because you guys wanted it, its totally unbalanced, but if we wanted to make it more balanced we would need to start making most of the game from scratches (engine, meshes and such excluded), and frankly we don't have time or will to do so; basically this is it, enjoy it as it is, and if u cant go play the game as its meant to be played... ty, gl hf :) "

that should probably make everyone happy, at least thats the case in my head :D

I don't know, there was Wheel of Fire... ;)

I suppose that the OP didn't see this thread, which is surprising since it is the fourth link from the top. The reason, of course, that it is fourth from the top is that it is stickied. Why is it stickied you might ask? Because people kept asking the same question over and over. However, stickied threads only work if people actually take the time to read them before posting, which thus brings us back to our current situation.

So welcome to the forums, it is a great place full of great people! Enjoy the game, it is one of the best to come along in years! But please, in the future, look to see if your question has already been answered. It's just easier for everyone, and cuts down the stress level in all our lives.
