Ok, I do like the new dialog flavor in TA, except for one annoying issue.  What is with the AI bragging about the fact that it is researching the most banal technologies??  When I have particle beam III and medium scale building, do I care that someone has advanced their empire by researching Laser I?  "The glory of our race continues...we are now researching Xeno Farming."  I am shivering at the prospect of Altarian kumquats.

Can't we stifle this until they reach a certain tech level or something?  It's far more comical than I think it was intended to be.

I suppose it reflects a lack of intel by the given race. Mayhaps they would be more intimidating if they knew what techs you had.

personally, I find all of the popups annoying. I don't mind having that info be tossed into a queue somewhere that I can look at, like the gnn window, but I hate having to click "ok" through fifteen yor mining bases that defected to join the arceans...

and why can you turn off super project notification for your own empire, but not for all of the others?

Please, less popups!

Awesome! I understand your point but it would have been nice if you had been involved in writing some of the dialogues ;)

I also wonder what the trigger is for those races to tell you such unimpressive news.

I would have relished the chance at that! I'm sure I could have offered an excellent sarcastic flavor to some of them. I did send in typos I discovered during the beta testing. I think it's probably what CommanderGizmo said..a lack of intel. As the game goes on, I see less and less of those types of popups.

I think it is Exactly as comical as it was intended. I crack up when I see these pop-ups.

I agree. If anything, I see it as another way to bring some levity into the game. When Lord Kona brags, "Oh yeah, well, I just researched Slave Pits!" and you can counter with invasion next turn, I think it's just rich.

Its just a game mechanic to let you know what research stage they are at, that can be useful if there is a tech race going on, assessing when to invade, etc etc.

Its a bit of levity in the game designed to make you feel either "superior" - or - "Oh C%^p, I'd better get a move on with research" - or - "Opppsss I've no defence yet against [weapon tech]" etc etc

Anyone taking them too seriously should not be playing the game - its a game not an egofest

That's always a bit the weak point of the trading screen: you can see to what technology the other races have access so in a way it's a little bit cheating.
