I have no experience with the TA beta but I'd imagine not.

If nothing else for the fact that when the enemy armada arrives to invade the Terrorstar broadcasts "Everybody back off or the juicy star system gets it" :P

That would be annoying. The least important race on the map secretly builds a terror star and blows up your homeworld star while you are busy with the real enemies. You can not even get revenge by stealing more planets back because they only have one...

No, i dont believe its possible. Developing the terror star just binds too much resources that it is likely a minor race will ever be able to build one. But thats a cool idea for an mega-event. Minor races get terror stars from an unknown race. Too bad if you are just at the moment at war with them.

I believe that, in theory, yes. They have access to the technology. However, those are monstrously expensive techs, so I would be honestly surprised if the minor wasted the research time to grab even ONE of the five prereq techs.

It would be pretty alarming if they DID get one, though.

It wouldn't matter even if they did, terror stars are too weak and slow to cause much alarm at all. It would be destroyed long before it ever reached a star.

minor races putter out long before you get to terror stars in the tech tree simply because there only one planet and one planet just doesn't have the resources to do that sort of stuff on it's own.

I dunno. My playstyle involves shielding the minor races and trading them tech for a steady stream of cash. This involves intervening whenever another race declares war on them and resolving the conflict, usually with cash, and then recovering my expense almost instantly with further tech trading.

So its entirely feasible under that model to trade them all the required technology. I'd be interested to see what happens when... er I mean if *cough* I do that.

Well, you could always try it.

Forget about profit; just give a minor all the techs and see what they do.

Couldn't you just simply gift a terror star itself to a minor race?

Well yeah, but it would be more fun to give them the tech and see if they have the stones to make one . . . ;)

You know gifting any other race a terrorstar should have diplomatic consequences.

Its bad enough you have constructed a machine which sole purpose is to wipe out star systems.... but making sure all your mates have one too? It kinda reminds me of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Maybe it does? Anyone whos played the Beta know?

I hope they change Terror Stars a little. Because at this point even if a Minor race built 20 of them. Nobody would be scared. Because number one it would take 15 weeks for the dam thing to even remotely get close to any other Star, number two if your grandmother on the other side of the moon farts. The terror star is dead.

Right now they are a waste of space. And if they don't change them. I predict people will build them maybe once or twice for the Owww cool factor. Then after they realize that they could conquer the galaxy the tradition way in 1/4 of the time. They will be nothing but a waste of space.

Actually, the only reason I actually use Terror Stars is to create new asteroid fields for mining. I have even taken to calling them Mining Stations...

Does anyone know what terror stars do to your military rating? Logic tells me other races should be impressed when you have the ability to destroy whole star systems. It should give a lot of military points...

couldnt you just send armed and speedy constructors to the star and build it on site? dismantle it when done and do the same to all other possible targets. maybe more expensive but quicker.

no waiting for it to travel.

The only thing I use a terror star for is to take down a super power in late game. Like thouse damn Koraths. Just send in 25 constructors and build terror stars around there key planets. While they power up I assemble my strike force. And boom war one pretty much in turn one : ). And theres not even a diplomatic penalty for using them.
That being said I only use my TS in about 1/9 games I play.

As for giving races a TS i've tried that and every time i've done it they disbanded it in one turn. I even handed one over next to their enemys homestar and they still disbanded it.  X-(

Interesting thanks for the info :)

The 'mining station' comment in particular. Presumably you can turn a completely uninhabitable system into discout minerals. Fond memories of the Steller Converter flooding back...
