GalCiv II: Twilight Beta 6A

Sorry for not announcing this sooner, we released the newest Twilight beta and then I had to leave on a business trip.  Beta 6A is the first GalCiv II: Twilight of the Arnor beta to have a significant update to the computer AI along with some new balancing in it.  We're in the home stretch.

Here is the official plan for the rest of the beta:

April 10: Beta 6B

April 23: Release

We're pretty much feature complete. The rest of the time will be spent integrating player feedback into balancing (which means more techs, planetary improvements, etc), more AI updates, and integrating a lot of the new content we've been holding back on.

You'll want to keep an eye on the journals area as that will be where we'll be talking about things we're adding as we add them.

The full change log can be found here.

...End of April. I still remember getting the email, claiming it would be released NOVEMBER, LAST YEAR. D:

Great to hear. I'm not playing the betas because I want to experience the finished product first time. Looking forward to it!

In which case, you'd be having the beta 5 version as the 2nd release patch.

It's better this way.

We added a lot of additional features over what was going to be in the November release.

Hmmm, I also remember people casting their votes to wait and send out a better finished product.

Thanks for taking the time for putting out a great product. It was a long wait, but you can never anticipate getting sick or getting overwhelmed with other projects. Patience is a virtue and I am sure that most of us (the other players) will greatly anticipate the release date.

Yay for a final release date. Even if it wasn't last November.

I'm eager to play! :D

Even if was said more than once...
We have all approved Stardock for delaying the final release in order to get more things in and get a well polished product. Other companies would had released it and then polished. Right now the code is rather stable and enjoyable.
A good number of users is in the beta so we are not really affected by the final release date. Let's say that it hurts more Stardock than us.

Hi there! I'm Eddy, your shipboard computer ... etc. sorry, couldn't resist.

Well, what i actually wanted to say is that the link above to see the changelog doesen't work for me, I can only see the 6a changelog.

I agree with the crowd, I would rather more solid features than meeting a deadline. Stardock, in particular GalCiv2, is best in rolling out a great product.

It seems I won't be able to get this update as my Stardock.net account is on the fitz, but ah well, I can wait X-( .

I really appreciate seeing an employer and software developer who knows that dev schedules are not ordained by vengeful gods who mightily smite slippage. I'll put workers' well-being and product quality ahead of "give me my toy now" any time. And I really want my toys.

And here I thought that there was going to be a May release... wow you guys just work your butts off. Thanks for the update and all your hard work. Now time to work at getting top 5 in those tournaments... this might take awhile. XD

Hi all, I just installed the gold edition again, it had been almost a year I had not played, I also purchased the new expansion from Stardock yesterday (0.98a[b].003
I played my first game today and the game crashed, the turn button disappeared.
Has this happened to anybody else? Anyway I forgot how good this game is, I'll try playing again.

Hokay, I'm gonna guess that the 'new expansion' you purchased is TA as you said 'gold edition' was the one you reinstalled. If memory serves that was the version with DA included. That version number you listed LOOKS really out of date, did you download any of the newest betas from SDC? I could be totally wrong, I haven't played the beta in about 3 months so I have clue what the latest version is.

I have to wait an extra fews days since they have to ship it all of the way to here in New Hampshire. Thank you Brad and Cari for working hard on TA all by themselves. Stardock, when i get older i wll make my own game company just like yours! Stardock your sucess on making these games is marvelous!

Are you sure you ready for release ?
With each version I see more and more "basic" bugs: Invisible core ships (had invisible starbase once) , Freighter command not working , technologies not appear in the tech list (but you can select them from tree) , some starbases can not be repaired with starbase repair kits,, miners doing nothing when in auto mode and there is upgrades to do, 3 "Sol" systems (each one with own earth mars etc) on the same map , CTDs from time to time , "next turn" disapeared once ... stuff like this.

Yippie! :)
April 23rd; checked mark on the calendar.
Money order cash of 29.95$US (peanuts for that incredible expansion and its highly anticipated editors +++ everything else announced and still being worked on right now!); in hand and ready to go. Ooops -- envelope & stamp. Check too.

Better then than never or slightly later, i'd say.

And what if this WAS supposed to happen sooner... for our patience, we get the very best and much more than first thought or expected.

The wait has been worth every spin of the arrows on daily wall-clocks.

Stardock have delivered again what they said they would deliver. They asked the fan base what we preferred - and it was overwhelmingly take the extra time to deliver a more in depth product, which they have.

Cant ask for better than that, I wish other gaming houses got on with the job in the same way, we would all be better off.

With Sins and TA out there - 2008 is going to be a big year for Stardock & Ironclad, of that there is no doubt, and well deserved. I look forward to the final release product with much anticipation, the Beta has been a successful process yet again.

Regards

I really prefer that option over a early release. It is great to actually participate in the developing of a game by testing the betas and posting suggestions here. I think this is WAY better than having an incomplete flawy product released as soon as possible. In my opinion - take yourself all the time you need and carefully hear the beta-players suggestions for the Expansion. There is no better way to optimize a game than to actually let the players decide how to improve it. A handful of persons cannot keep in mind everything, the longer the beta is tested by a base of players, the better it can get in its final release.
