Praise to the Devs

Over the weekend I thinkg the Devs especially frogboy have gotton a lot of slack because of a few minor issues. This post is designed in nature for all those who want to tell them how happy we all are with thier hard work on this game on continuing to make this game better and thier continued work on the upcoming expansion. Hip hip array for all thier hard work congratulations to all

I agree completely. The sheer number of gameplay improvements for a program we have already paid for is amazing. On top of this, Stardock is committed to tightening up the coding to ensure the smoothest possible experience for all gamers. When I revisit my other 4X TBS games, I keep coming right back to GalCiv 2 as the most complete experience possible.
Of all the forums I monitor for different games, this is the only one where I feel truly connected to the company at all levels. I smile knowingly every time I see Stardock being used as an example of the way things should be on all those other forums.
Certainly, there are issues with the game that I would do differently if I were the designer, but I am not, and I am quite willing to bow to the wisdom and the vision of the creators of this game.
The whole public beta methodolgy encourages gamers to be vocal in their observations, but please don't lose perspective on who has the final say. Congrats Stardock...and thanks.

Yes - I'm here lurking more than I'm posting but that just gives me more of a chance to accept their consistant bettering of a game.

This is the most professional customer oriented Software Company, (That includes the outstanding staff, Development and support) that I've ever had the pleasure to do business with. I just purchased your new expansion pack, and I look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with your company. Mr Brad Wardell, its refreshing to see a Corp. Exec that is so passionate about his products. Please keep up the great work.

The Dev's are doing an amazing job with making an already incredible game even better, and for free as well! They give us so much out of the charity of their being, and it is with great pleasure that I hand over my money to Stardock for any of its products, because I know that whatever it is that I just bought, there will continue to be great support and updates to it for however long that program is around for.

Long live Stardock, King of the Software Companies!

The dev's are definitely excellent, and in addition they are always helpful.
For instance my problems with invisble ships ("invisible ships again..." in the bug report forum), other dev's would have said: "It's only you with this problem, as long as you can't proove that many other have this problem we can't help you."
But not here, from Stardock I get the attention I always wanted from a game developer.
Stardock is the best, and besides that they have the best game (with the best story I've ever seen in a game).

This takes me back to the Supreme Commander forum.... I saw a post where a dev for this game basically said we were all idiots and we should take some computer programming courses so we can appreciate how difficult it is to fix bugs. Some constumer service. I had alot of issues with Supreme Commander when I first bought the game... I would e-mail their tech support, and it would take like a week to get an answer from them. The few times I have asked Stardock for help, they respond much more quickly, which is impressive given the much smaller staff size than gas powered games I am sure.

Yes, I have never seen the sheer amount of updates for a game. Alot of games will get one or two updates just to fix the bugs, and thats it - the company is "through" with the game. The only other game that seemingly updates as much as galciv 2 is World of Warcraft, but then Blizzard is taking in 13-15 dollars a month from each and every WoW player, so they should be painstakingly making frequent updates....

Stardock is providing an updating service and game enhancement service comparible to WoW, only they are doing it for free!

I've posted the following in the plantets thread that kind of got out of hand (thus the comments about it) . I had not seen this thread before, and it seems more apropriate here:

It is clear how forum threads can quickly degenerate, and I certainly can understand that Frogboy might have taken some of the comments personnaly, or even as aggressions.

I have not yet installed 1.8, I'm waiting to finish a game then I'll get it.

I think it is a pity (but understandable) that Frogboy reacted the way he did but some of the posts were really arrogant and flaming. But I don't blame Frogboy: I've been here since march 2003, just before galciv release, and I must say, I've never had a problem or reason to be disatisfied with this company.

I think most of the problem in that thread is due to the fact that many people don't realise that all these updates are a curtasy of stardock. This was thouroughly explained before (in galciv days), for the "oldtimers" in here. But some of the posters that came to the game later on, they seem to see the updates just as patches, which most of the time they are not: they constantly renew the game, not just correct bugs.

And everyone (or almost) should agree that most games out there get one or two patches and then that's it. And they just correct bugs. Here there are lots of stuff added, for which stardock is not paid, since you already paid for the game. Although it might have needed a patch or two out of the box (i'm not saying it is tha case, I don't remember, so my guess is not) all that has come since then was a bonus. People should realise that. And have some patience and moderation when criticizing: specially since they can go back to an earlier version until the problem is corrected.

Finally, people posting these critics should be aware that Frogboy comes here and takes the time to read the forums. How many other companies do that? And to reply. How many do THAT ? And he even takes into account the comments people make.
The corolary of that is that well, people's comments and critics and some times attacks go straight to the CEO ears, not some low level costumer service employee in charge of the forums. And while driving that person mad may have no consequences (although being a bad thing to do), driving the CEO of the company mad can have serious consequences for all the community. Having him here is a privilege for all of us, and we should see it as such.

So I do hope Brad's reaction was just a normal venting, brought about by the tone of some of the posts here. As someone said someday/somewhere, you shouldn't take it personnaly, the problem being that when you are telling yourself that, it usually means you already took it very much personnaly...

Last word to say, like many others here have said already, that stardock service has no equal that I know of. A few people who attacks it without knowing it shouldn't be considered as representative of the community, even thought they do like to speak as if they were doing it for all of us ; which they don't.

It is my first post in a very long time, but I felt the need to distanciate myself from some of the posts and also, let stardock know that I believe many people would agree with me. Specially those who have been here the longest.

Take Care People.

Let me be clear: I love your game - your stance on customer service, free updates and the speed in which they are realeased and of course you guys - I know you all work hard to produce quality games. (as my preorder date for TotA should show!)

Do not allow the few to bring you down - one hell of alot of people do care about the updates, the game and your company.

I thought the features in 1.8 was ace, particularly as I tend to use lease options alot.

Seriously - Your doing great.

Frogboy is kind of like me.... he just can't stand taking shit from other people or stand people that disrespect others.

It is possible to be critical of a game but not disrespectful. I have been very critical of planetary invasion animation (my one serious beef with the game), but you can give your comments respectfully.

I will bet that if the people posting about planets in that thread had used an ounce of respect, Frogboy may have just said "I appreciate your concerns and will look into it".

We shouldn't take things personally AND people shouldn't disrespect others for no reason. It always pisses me off and just DUMBFOUNDS me when people disrespect others for no reason. An example is people calling people who play video games alot nerds who can't get laid. Everytime I hear someone doing this, I want to rip someones balls off.

In regards to World of Warcraft, for example, this game has notoriously spoofed all kinds of shit where people cut down Wow players and call them pussy geeks who can never get laid, have no life, etc. Again, I just want to take these people's heads and shove them into a toilet. These people who cut down others watch football on their asses every weekend. They do nothing but talk in the office about the Raiders, Broncos, etc. etc. etc. How is this a "life"??? This may be heresy to some, BUT FOOTBALL IS JUST A GAME JUST LIKE WOW. What gives them the right to say we have no life, when going around spreading STDs with hundreds of women every week can be easily regarded as "no life?"

Knowing Frogboy, you guys talking on the planet thing in the forum probably deserved some heat since you disrepected for no reason. You can be critical without disrepecting. For example, I can say to an addicted WoW player, "please monitor your time playing and do other things to enhance your health and well being", rather than "you are such a big f$$#$#ing pussy geek who couldn't get laid because you play that stupid game every f##$ing day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I'd like to thank Stardock for not only making what quickly became my favorite game of all time, but also for saving me hundreds of dollars I would of spent on other games had I not been addicted to GC2 for over a year. It's been a fantastic trip and I'm looking forward to continuing the journey with TOTA.

Allright. Im a long time lurker of this forum(since a short time after the games release) but this issue i couldnt ignore and i had to say something. I read the disgusting thread that i belive gave birth to this one and upon reading it i felt the need to start a thread like this myself as it had me quite pissed off.*

Frogboy, just like your stance on multiplayer and probably other things dont let the loud and ignorant speak for the many. Everything negative in that thread was completely incorrect and in no way does it speak for this community.!!

YOU DEFINATLY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO KILL THIS GAME.

People here actually WANT to give you thier money! That to me says alot. You guys are seriously amazing and i couldnt welcome the breath of fresh air you have givin me and many here more than i allready do. You guys are doing whats best for your baby AND the people who support it far better than anything or anyone i and many here have known. Your unselfishness does not go unnoticed!! Deep appretiation and respect goes out to all invovled!

Relise even long after Stardock in its current form passes on people here wont forget EVERYTHING you guys have done and respect for it will indeed not die out or be forgotten.I beg all of stardock to ignore the loud and not forget the masses that have much respect and appretiation for the breath of fresh air you give!!

*Thanks to the thread creator and to all who have and will post thier support here.
Once agian and most of all thanks to Stardock!! You are not the only ones upset here i cant imgagine the combined anger here if a few people would be able to put a dent into everything you have givin.

Agh, feels asthough i cant say enough, heh.

Long live Stardock!

Normally i don't like these kahooney buffing threads but in this instance i believe, rightly, that the guys and girls at Stardock do need a complimentary kahooney buffing on us gamers.

So here goes...

Thanks!

ROFL

Nah! Nice one guys and a huge thanks to you from me. Your dedication to the game is what's kept me round here since the old GC1 days (sorry ). Your continued support and tweaking of the game really helps keep me playing it after all this time. Thanks to you each time i play the game these days i feel like its the first time all over again and its this feeling that has kept me hooked and made me rush over and pre-order TotA. Please keep up the good work and remember there are those of us out here who genuinely are grateful for every update you do regardless of glitches etc!

Thank You!

I'm not an owner of GalCivII right now, because I rarely if ever use a Windows computer, but I have been a customer of StarDock's before, and I'm a frequent user of their blog site, JoeUser.

StarDock is ridiculously customer-oriented. And I love them for it.

And customers like you probably make it all the better for them, I'm sure.

thanks Kryo for letting us know

I think we have shown you that the masses here appreciate each a every one of you!!

I recently got the game. Looked at it for a long time before buying because I really didn't like Civilization much, played 1 & 2 a couple times before they went on the shelf. So I was a bit shy about GalCiv. But after playing for a while I have to say I really like it. There's a balance not found in Civ. And the more I play the more I want to play.

One of the big reasons I finally plunked down my money is the devs. Great job!
