Hi all and welcome to round 2 of the Metaverse League. I think round 1 was a success and we can only do better from here. For those reading about the MV League for the first time, please see the threads at the bottom of this post for any information you need and please feel free to sign up and play, we would love to have you.

Our main goal with the league is to create a new way of playing the game and being competitive without the need to be able to get those super large scores. If we can get enough people playing we just might see the MVL get recognized as a viable method of playing and scoring which would lead us to another goal, that of having Kryo incorporate the MVL into the Altmeta. So anything we can do to promote the League and get more players interested will be greatly appreciated. I do believe that by ironing out a few kinks and showing the community that the League is, viable, here to stay and uniquely different that we might create a whole new way of playing GalCiv II.

A few tweaks to the rules and scoring.

No longer will "random anything" be in my selection process when it comes to planets, stars, etc...

I have tweaked the scoring a little based on a few suggestions. If we don't like it we can change back.

3,2,1 for fastest games, to be determined by submission time if there is a tie.
(get your games in quick guys)

-1 for the lowest scoring game

It is now 0 for a defeat, no penalty.

I can't think of anything i may have missed, i did troll the league threads looking for other suggestions. If i missed something we were going to implement please let me know.

Onto the round 2 setting's,

A military conquest on a small map with 7 opponent's.

Habitable planet's - common
Number of planet's - common
Number of Star's - abundant
Star density - tight
Anomalies - uncommon
Asteroids (DA) - rare
Tech rate - very slow

Disable tech trading
Disable Blind exploration
Enable Mega events (DA)
Disable Super Abilities (DA)

Of course all victory conditions must be enabled and all else is up to you.

I am afraid I must announce that I wish to resign from the MVL. I have just moved into year 10 at school and it is a lot busier than my previous years, so I wish to concentrate my lessened spare time on other things, namely the MMV and various mods I am developing. I will however try to support the league in any way I can, and will remain faithful and supportive of The Domination of Death.

Well, I didn't put in a lot of play time this round, so my game isn't all that great. But it sure was a challenge! First time I ever needed to trade away a planet in order to negotiate a much needed peace.

Very slow tech rate doesn't work well for the way I play, apparently. There was actually an 18-quality planet left uncolonized after my 7 year game becasue I didn't bother getting the colonization tech: that doesn't happen in my regular games.

I like getting a different type of challenge to try and play. Let's keep it up!

Awww, my score is only 6500 points. I'm not saying that I'm submitting this but only 6500??? My highest score ever was somewhere between 8000-9000 on a small galaxy. But this is pathetic.

I'm currently trying my best to get the game in, but I'm pretty sure I'll not be able to make the deadline.

The last week was packed with preparations for moving, and this week all the stuff has to be transported, kitchen be installed, furniture... etc. So basically, it's a bit more work than I anticipated.

Of course, I could just resign now and submit a defeat, but I'd much rather submit a really played out game.

I know a deadline is a deadline, but if that deadline would be extended to the 16th (Sunday instead of Thursday), I'd be able to submit the game.

I may face problems in the next round if I use DA - I get a BSOD 90% of the time (or more) I start a DA game.
DL is still stable though: So I'm back to less asteroids, less planets, less bonuses - and less credits.

This is of course a question for Neilo but my guess would be that the answer will be no. I'm sure most folks would like to cut you or anyone else in this kind of circumstance a break but then the ending of this round creeps into interfering with the start of the next round. If one person does it then it's probably not that big a deal but if one does it then why not others.

Obviously you can see that this is a slippery slope to start down. As I mentioned this is Neilo's decision and he could certainly come on and say that this would be OK and if he does I would support his decision, however I think that is pretty unlikely.

What I would suggest is that you give it your best shot for as long as you can but if you have to submit a resignation then so be it. What you can do even in this case is to keep a copy of the game saved and finish it up later and resubmit it once the round is over. That would at least remove the loss for your metaverse character and would deserve at least an "honorable mention" for next month. Of course the honorable mention wouldn't be worth any bonus points or anything else other than acknowledgement from the League that you tried your best. After all that's all anyone can do.

I suggest you not use DA then. A lot of folks still play DL (I for one). Yes perhaps there is less of the things you mention but that hasn't stopped me from collecting both highest score and fastest game (I think I got fastest this month, there's still a few days to go though).

However, you should probably chase down your BSOD issue in other threads because this is certainly a problem that not everyone is having so I do assume there's probably a resolution to this issue out there.

Of course no harm in asking, who knows he may yet respond in the affirmative. However, even if he doesn't the course I outlined would at least get you an "atta boy" that and the respect and admiration of your peers.

I certainly would never want to hamper anyone from submitting a game, but the precedent set would open up a can of worms we could do without. If the majority of players all needed more time, then it would be something to consider....

I'd love for someone to submit a lose or resignation. It shows honesty and commitment IMHO. Everyone understands time is not always available. Perhaps you could get a different victory in the time allowed, it would not garnish you any points but would still be a victory for your MV character.

My submission for this round. I was very dissapointed after playing a sandbox game and getting 13k. Then when i set up the MV game i realized i had played that sandbox one with the wrong setings. Talk about a let down.

Off topic question, but what are these "sandbox" games everyone mentions? Is that just the Normal setting instead of something like Battle of the Gods or whatnot? Or is it in DL, because I can never find anything that says sandbox. I'm jealous, I like sandboxes and want to play in one.

Sandbox would be when you press 'new game' or 'metaverse' as opposed to 'campaign' on the main title screen. You raise a good point though, I suppose the custom maps and scenarios could also be called 'NON-sandbox' games.

And pndrev, as long as you had fun with your game, you haven't let us down!

To echo what others have pretty much said, doing the best you can in light of the situation doesn't let anyone down. Like Neilo implied, the submission of a resignation or defeat builds character.

Since I'm not comfortable with submitting a really weak game like I just completed I'm gonna do a monster effort to get a better game in before the deadline. (13th or 14th??)

That means approximatly 6 hours of time.(assuming its 14th) This will be a challenge, especially since I've moved up in difficulty. the AI is much more fun to play against though. Gonna have to do it quick though. If I don't make it, then my earlier mentioned game will automatically go into my list of submittions.

NOTE: I won't be able to make the list by the 14th. Expect the results on 15th of september.

And mumble, if you can, PM me a tip on quick games. It's been 5 months since I played GCII.(before the MVL)

I'm a latecomer to the league, but did play a game following the requirements listed so figured I would post it. From what I understand, since we are a 5 man team.. if my score is the lowest it will be dropped. Since I'm new at this whole thing, I don't have much of a score to show but I did beat the silly thing.

Score (not sure how to link it, but its fairly easy to find on my profile since I've finished all of 2 games):

Points: 5250
Game Length: 4 years
Alignment: very good
Race: Drath
Victory Type: Military Conquest

All the galaxy settings were exactly as described in the round 2 initial post.
