I guess we've had enough preliminary hoopla and it's time to get down to it and see how general elections for MVC Councilors will fare.

For anyone that's missed it, this is essentially a continuation of the Metaverse Council Elections thread. Anyone that doesn't know what we're talking about should refer to that thread.

In summary we have 5 candidates for 2 open positions on the Metaverse Council. These candidates are listed in alphabetical order.

The reply listed in parentheses besides each candidates name is basically their "campaign speech" from the above listed thread. Each candidate is also welcomed, but not required, to reply to this thread with a short and sweet "final statement".

There was a fair amount of discussion about how to hold this election and the end result was that votes should be sent by PM to any of three designated current MVC representatives. These representatives are Macmatt, MarshallONeil and Mumblefratz. We decided to go with the "M" councilors this first time around (j/k). Just send a PM to any of these "designated" MVC councilors with any two names from the above listed candidates as your choice for the new MVC councilors. This election will be open for one week. After that point all votes will be tallied and made public. The top two vote getters will be the new MVC Councilors and the results will be final.

I want to encourage every one to vote and for you to encourage others to do so as well. I understand that to some this whole thing may seem a bit silly, but the MVC really is trying to improve the metaverse for the enjoyment of everyone. Without your participation it’s very difficult to do that. There is no requirement whatsoever for voting, if you’re interested enough to bother sending us a PM then we believe that your vote should be counted. So whether you’re a grizzled veteran or a noob, you’re vote is important to us. Please help us help you.

Please feel free to ask any questions in this thread, they will be answered promptly. Also forgive me in advance if I take the liberty of facetiously bumping this thread throughout the election. I want to make sure that this stays in the public eye, at least while the polls are open. Again, thank you for your participation.

Mine are up to the minute at this point.

It still seems to me that we are getting very few responses from what I would consider "newer" folks. Perhaps there just aren't very many of these kinds of folks around. Also not everyone checks these forums everyday or even necessarily every week. That's the major reason for holding the polls open for a whole week.

However, I do believe that there are many that would be interested in participating but simply feel that they don't have enough experience with the metaverse or don't know the candidates all that well or they feel that their vote may not be all that informed and so therefore they don't vote.

I can't stress this enough that these are precisely the people in whose support and opinion we are most interested. So if any of the above describes you please take your best guess and vote.

You know Mumble, it could just be that you have been on here enough that you know everyone who plays galciv2. So of course you recognize all the names.

To be fair, I played the game for a long time before I ever discovered these forums. Short of sending an email to people that the election is occuring, I don't know how to let more people know about it.

Yes. PlayJeff's vote is duly recorded in Council Chambers. I do appologize as there was a two day delay in my posting his vote. This, among other reasons, is why we will publish all votes once final.

Technically, this vote will run until Thursday, 6/21, and even though the rate of new votes is slowing down I definitely want to give all that want to participate a chance to do so.

@TP Scot, please send a PM with your vote to either Macmatt, MarshallONeil or myself. Just in case you've never sent a PM here before there are instructions in reply #13 of this thread. Also there are two openings, so please vote for two councilors.

BTW the next big push by the MVC is to try and incorporate a Mod Metaverse, Metaverse Scenarios and Tournaments into the AltMeta using the endgame.xml that Cari has provided.

OK so it's been 1 week and the polls are now officially closed. I'll check with the other "designated" MVC councilors and make sure that we have all the votes recorded and we'll be posting the final results shortly, hopefully later today.

Marshall and Macmatt, please make sure to check back to the Council Chambers and let us know if your tallies are complete.

See reply #13 in this thread. Yes I agree that it is odd that you can't just go into private messages and "email" anyone you choose, but that's the system that we have. All in all it's a big benefit to have a PM system here so I can forgive this minor shortcomming.

I'm sorry but the polls are closed and we can no longer take your vote, it's inevitable that some folks will miss out but that's just real life. There will certainly be a next time and your desire to participate is appreciated even though it didn't quite work out this time.

At this point the results are pretty much final. I'm still waiting for Macmatt to confirm that his vote tally is complete, but I'm going to go ahead and announce the results as final because I believe that there is a zero percent probability that there will be any change in the outcome.

Congratulations are also in order for those that ran but were not elected (this time ), your participation and continued support are truly and greatly appreciated.

Also as an aside, the MVC will at least be making the attempt to hold more of our discussions here on these forums instead of at the Core just so that more folks can participate and have an idea of what it is we're trying to do. There still is a need for a "quiet" area for us to debate our tedium but we will make a better effort of holding the more "important" discussions here.

Yet another aside about voter turnout here. All in all I was hoping for better, but I do believe that there's nothing to be ashamed of here. Clearly there are those that would have liked to participate but just didn't happen to catch the election at the right time. This was also the first time and pretty much an experiment.

All in all I think that the experiment was a success and that future MVC elections will be held in a similar manner. We have still yet to decide how this will work going forward. There may be some desire for some councilors to be appointed by empires while others are elected in elections like these, or perhaps, all councilors should be elected. Also when should the current set of councilors be required to run for reelection? Anyway these are all issues that will need to be decided.

Also I blame the MVC itself for not being as active on these forums as we perhaps should have been. I think that we've done great work so far and there's certainly more to come, but besides doing things that benefit the community, we have to make sure that the community is fully aware of them.

Opps. First correction received.

ElWhopO actually voted for Lynxx and Neilo not Lynx and Wyndstar. This changes the final results slightly with Neilo and Wyndstar still the clear winners but now tied at 17 each.

Certainly any other corrections, whether or not they make a difference, will be appreciated. I think in the future it may be good to crosscheck the votes by forwarding them to a second level of folks that do an independent list and then verify. At this point it's probably not that big a deal, but I do expect turnout will be better further on down the line and the larger the turnout the bigger this kind of thing becomes.

Wow, cool! Well thankyou to all who voted in the election, it's good to see there are quite a few people out there interested in making the Metaverse a better experiance. I hope to be able to make a contribution worthy of having received your vote.

Congrats to Wyndstar also and to all the other nominee's, I'm sure when it's time for re-election you guys will put up your hands once again.

Neilo, how do you have banners for 2 different empires? Am I reading them wrong? I'm mostly asking because I wouldn't mind participating in two myself.
