Voting for MVC Councilors starts Now

I guess we've had enough preliminary hoopla and it's time to get down to it and see how general elections for MVC Councilors will fare.

For anyone that's missed it, this is essentially a continuation of the Metaverse Council Elections thread. Anyone that doesn't know what we're talking about should refer to that thread.

In summary we have 5 candidates for 2 open positions on the Metaverse Council. These candidates are listed in alphabetical order.

ElWhopO (reply #102)
Lynx xxx (reply #41)
Neilo (reply #37)
PlayJeff45 (reply #100)
Wyndstar (reply #78)

The reply listed in parentheses besides each candidates name is basically their "campaign speech" from the above listed thread. Each candidate is also welcomed, but not required, to reply to this thread with a short and sweet "final statement".

There was a fair amount of discussion about how to hold this election and the end result was that votes should be sent by PM to any of three designated current MVC representatives. These representatives are Macmatt, MarshallONeil and Mumblefratz. We decided to go with the "M" councilors this first time around (j/k). Just send a PM to any of these "designated" MVC councilors with any two names from the above listed candidates as your choice for the new MVC councilors. This election will be open for one week. After that point all votes will be tallied and made public. The top two vote getters will be the new MVC Councilors and the results will be final.

I want to encourage every one to vote and for you to encourage others to do so as well. I understand that to some this whole thing may seem a bit silly, but the MVC really is trying to improve the metaverse for the enjoyment of everyone. Without your participation it’s very difficult to do that. There is no requirement whatsoever for voting, if you’re interested enough to bother sending us a PM then we believe that your vote should be counted. So whether you’re a grizzled veteran or a noob, you’re vote is important to us. Please help us help you.

Please feel free to ask any questions in this thread, they will be answered promptly. Also forgive me in advance if I take the liberty of facetiously bumping this thread throughout the election. I want to make sure that this stays in the public eye, at least while the polls are open. Again, thank you for your participation.

I'm posting here to make it easier for everyone to find me for PM purposes.

Also, I would like to encourage those who have not yet seen the results of our work to visit the Alternate Metaverse (AltMeta) in its new incarnation.

We have come a long way, but there are more ambitious projects on the horizon. Your participation, by voting for councillors and sharing your ideas and critiques in the forums, will be one of the main ingredients in our ongoing efforts.

I'd like to see the high quality of the Forums continue. I'm impressed with a lot of the people I meet, and have learned a lot. I probably spend more time in the Forums lately than playing the game, but that could change depending on what I wanna do. I don't see yet where I could do any more to contribute there just because I was on the Council, but ya never know.

I'd like to see the Metaverse have a lot more participation; because it stirs up more competition, and a lot of the people in the various Empires are having a lot of fun doing it. So ... participation+=competition+=more fun for everyone.

I'd like to see Tournaments have increased participation, mainly for the same reasons I'd like to see the Metaverse have a lot more participation. The more, the merrier. I haven't participated in Tournaments. I'm not sure if I want to, but someday I might. The 'requirements' for running for this Council position don't include being a Tournament winner or participating, just to support them, and I do.

I'd like to see the Modding community maintain it's high quality, and have even more fun doing ... whatever it is they do. I'm not a participant, but I think it's cool that so many people are having so much fun doing it. So you can all assume correctly that I will use my godlike omniscient powers of telepathy to assist everyone having fun there too.

Didn't see any mention in the position specs but - has anyone been reading any "AAR's?" Lot's of creativity going on! Kudos to all!

In conclusion: No doubt I have a lot to learn about how things are done, the EULA - and just about everything else, but having fun is what we're here for, and I like to learn. Someday I might be #1 in the Metaverse or the AltMeta, but that will be a long while, if ever. I have a lot to learn about Tournaments and Modding, and I'm making no promises I'll ever be as good as the people doing it now, but I will support everyone the best I can, in the best way I know how. Hope this was short & sweet enuff?

I'm also making a post here so people can PM me easily .

Good luck to all the candidates!

Well, it is an honor just to be nominated

First off I would like to thank the MVC for all of their work so far. The changes made to the AltMeta have really enriched metaverse play options. Even running these elections probably at times feels like a thankless task. So I want to let all of them know that their efforts are appreciated.

An interesting and thriving metaverse can really add to the experience of playing Gal Civ 2. One area of particular interest to me is running tournaments where everyone playing metaverse games can compete together. To the best of my knowledge I'm the first person to run metaverse tournaments here on these message boards. I started in April, and you can see the results here and here. I will continue to work to provide interesting tournament challenges to keep you coming back for more. If elected I will also be able to work with the council on setting up some sort of official tournament system.

But, while this is the metaverse council, I realize for many of you there are elements away from the metaverse that interest you. For much of this year I have done my best to lend my experience with this game to answer people's questions here on the forums. I have literally, actually played close to 200 games of galciv2 over the last year (it took me a while to figure out the metaverse was cool). While perhaps I deserve admonishment for that sort of love of the game, my point is that over playing that many games I have become very familiar with most aspects of this game. I will continue to try and answer anyone's questions - from first time players to seasoned veterans - anytime I think my perspective can be helpful.

This is a rich and complex game that invites you to get lost for hours in its universe, playing for just "one more turn". I also have, and will continue, to try and bring in depth strategy analysis discussions to these forums. Whether it is posting AAR descriptions of how I play, tips on how to beat some of the higher difficulty levels, or analysis of various game mechanics.

Many people have different points of view regarding different aspects of this game. I have also worked to try and encourage all ideas and viewpoints, even when I disagree. I do my best (and I'm sure I can improve) to treat everyone on here with respect. Flame wars help no one. I have my own prejudices and opinions, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, and looking at the game through someone else's eyes can help you to see aspects you overlooked. If elected as a councilor, I will continue to try and promote a civil tone even when emotions get heated.

I even suggested using the PM system as a voting method for this election!

In short, if elected I will do my best to use my experience and analysis to help the galciv community. Whether that involves changes to the metaverse, tournaments, answering questions or just conversing with people I find on these forums. I have my own perspective, but I will also endeavor to do my best to represent the community as a whole.

Finally, I really want to wish everyone I'm running against the best of luck. I'm sure that each of us will do our all for the galciv community.

So, do your part. Vote for two of us. Send a private message vote to one of the three councilors listed in the first post. Take care.

Thanks for being willing to make this commitment folks.
Certainly all of you would make a fantabulous addition to the Metaverse Council.

Now i know this aint the lottery, but good luck to you candidates anyway.

Also, thanks to the MVC for encouraging folks that are new to the game and/or the Metaverse to participate in the nomination and election process. Its good to know that all voices want to be heard and do count.

Wow, what a hard act to follow. Firstly, good luck to all nominee's and i'm sure the only winner in these elections will be the Metaverse and the community. There really is no way anyone can lose given the support the nominee's have already shown to the cause.

There was much said above by Wyndstar and ElWhopO that i agree with and i echo their comments, so rather than say what has been said already i will move on...

As i said before in my original speech, why do i deserve your vote? I don't. None of us deserve to be apart of the MVC, but that is the beauty of free elections, you the casual player....you the wise veteran....or you the enthusiastic noob, can give us the chance to show we deserve your vote by doing the community proud and improving the game experience we are all here for.

The experience i have had here on these forums is amazing. I really do enjoy taking part in the many conversations/debates on these forums and would love for the interest shown in this game and the MV to have a long life. Arousing interest in the MV is of paramount importance to me, and i would say my main goal as a councilor is to further the community's interest in the game and the MV. The MV tournaments is just the begining. A Mod MV has been mentioned and as a modder myself, would love to see this implemented plus there are many more ideas yet to see the light of day. I want them. I want to play in them and i think i can help shape them. Also, i love new ideas and concepts, these bring new life and new players and i for one would love to hear anyone's ideas on the game, and then, with luck help implement those ideas.

My game experience notwithstanding, though i am proud of my acheivements and believe i understand the game very well, it is my "forum presence" and my "fire in the belly" as it was put, that provides me with the tools to achieve the goals needed.

It is my nature to "call it like i see it", that i hope appeals to voters, coupled with my game knowledge and time to devote to these forums, i can help the MV grow and help the MVC bring the game to the community in a way never intended and nor imagined.

This is your community, your MV and your MVC. You the voter have the power...please use it. Thankyou to all who believe i can be a councilor and thankyou to all who participate in these elections, no matter the outcome.......we win!

Neilo.

A quick thankyou to Mumble and the entire MVC for their continued efforts and dedication to the MV.

HHHMMMMM? well it is summer in Canada so I have been drinking a little so beer with me PLEASE. I will make this short. Every candidate is extrodinarily awesome, whether I talk to them directley or indirectley. I will not change whether I am elected or not. Either way I am sure (I hope) I will be able to get my point across to any councillors. Every person who plays this game should definately vote because this is for you, not our health. THE AVERAGE PLAYER IS IN EVERY PERSONS INTEREST. I do not believe I am more deserving than any other candidate as it stands. Every candidate has your best interest in mind, so please vote. I WILL NOT BLOW FLOWERS UP YOUR ASS FOR YOU TO VOTE FOR ME. I think any one of the candidates will do an outstanding job for you to help get the improvements(I HOPE) you want. I thank Mublefratz for taking the time out of his scheduale to post the posts he did. And also for every other councilor who spent time on these posts.TGE for getting me to run. And I thank the two candidates I nominated(Wynstar and Neilo) For doing the jobs they have already done in the METAVERSE. Elwopo for all his comments in the threads, and Lynxxxx, well Lynx you are a fellow Space Orca and Senator   If I think of something else, which I probably will I will add it to this thread. Good luck to all that are running and I will Chat with you all later.

Thank you very much for this very important point.

Votes are starting to come in. It is a bit early and we're certainly not going to make any comment about how any particular candidate is doing. But I am detecting a bit of a trend that I want to address.

Certainly there are exceptions but most of the votes that I see coming in are from people well known to me. I certainly thank all those that have voted and please keep them coming, but I really do want to reach out to those that may be new to the game and to these forums. These are the folks that I most want to hear from. Don't be intimidated by the force of some of the personalities that you see posting to threads like this. Your opinion is at least as important as anyone else's. Even though you may be new and not know much about any of these candidates, take your gut feel and vote.

One thing I said early on in the other thread and TGE echoed it (or perhaps it was the other way around ) is that it's more important to get a good turnout so that people see that they can truly contribute to the process than who it is that's elected. That's definitely true, the process itself is far more important than any specific result. If people are interested and contribute their opinions and support then even mediocre councilors will be successful. Without this participation and support even the best councilors on earth will be ineffectual.

Well I have read all the great write ups from my other fellow candidates and I wish I could vote for all of them. More importantly I wish that everyone who is a part of the forums will cast their votes. When I first started playing on Metaverse I had no idea who thought it up or kept it running, I just enjoyed playing and posting my scores to see if I could get somewhere near the top (no such luck). I never understood how it all worked and what efforts were going on behind the scenes

But now I have a chance to be a active voice and participant in making the metaverse better and more enjoyable for all, a bit of repayment for all of the great hours I have spent playing on it, and this is why I decided to get off my backside and do something. So! If by a cast of votes I actually make it onto the council I would do my best to offer suggestions of improvement, I would accept delegated responsibilities,
try to answer any questions from any one, and offer help when ever I could.

Even though I have been active on the forums scince GCII came out, I think that working on the council would provide an opportunity for my own personal growth, in that I can see myself having a huge learning curve in an area that I have not really had too much experience in. The good part is that if I'm a bit new I may come with ideas that others may not a thought of. You never know!

Finally! Thanks to the Metaverse team for organising the voting proceedure and all the great work they have done in the past. Good luck to the rest of the candidates, and regardless of what happens, let's all continue to make this forum, the modding community and game the best that it can be.

Regards,
Lynx xxx

It's been pointed out to me that it might be a good idea to remind folks how to send a PM. For those that haven't done it before it's not entirely obvious.

You would think that you could just go into your private message area and send a PM to any user just like sending an email, but you can't. The only way to send a PM is to find a post by the person you want to send a PM to and then click on their name.

This brings up a pulldown menu that gives you the option of viewing the characters profile, sending the character a direct email, sending the character a PM, or, finding the characters posts. In this case you want to select Private Message. You'll then be taken to the private message area where you can compose your message. You'll be required to enter in some random CAPTCHA data to actually send the PM. This is to prevent spamming of PM's by bots. PM's are better than emails from the senders point of view in that they don't expose the senders email address to the recipient of the PM as a direct email would.

This is actually not as complicated as it sounds and if you haven't ever sent a PM then now is your chance. Simply use the OP or any of the other replies I've made in this (or any other) thread or go to reply #1 or reply #3 of this thread to send your PM vote to Macmatt or MarshallONeil.

That's all there is to it. Thank you for taking the time to vote.

even though i'm not in The High Command Hegemony does my vote still count? if it does then mine would be on neilo or Wyndstar (which ever has the least votes).

The vote isn't tied to any empire. It's for the Metaverse itself, so you don't have to be a member of anything. Just PM one of the designated Councilors. (Mumblefratz, Macmatt or MarshallONeil).

You get two votes, since there are two people running. You can vote for both of the candidates you mentioned, or two of any who are in the running.

An aside...I'm not sure if you can use both of your votes on one candidate. That issue hasn't been addressed AFAIK.

Oh, and I voted. Do I get an "I voted" sticker?

Im not in The High Command Hegemony either, my PM, although rather cheekily formulated, was recognized nonetheless ...and replied to in a refreshingly humorous way.
Being in a specific empire doesnt qualify or disqualify anyone for voting, as MottiKhan already pointed out.

I'm not sure if you can use both of your votes on one candidate.

The votes are specifically related to the two positions new councilors are sought for, hence only one vote per candidate will be recognized, since both positions cannot be filled by one person.

I think this is a correct interpertation. If we received such a vote it would count as only one vote for the one person that you mentioned, however, I'm sure we would reply to your PM with a request to supply another name. However, if you really only wish to vote for one then you certainly may do so, but it would just count as one vote.

Also questions regarding the candidates empire with respect to the empire of the voter has come up in a couple of different contexts. The answer is that empire membership makes no difference here in any way, shape or form.

The MVC started out with members appointed by various empires simply so we could get started without having to try and accomplish elections such as these right from the very start. However, even with this start which empire someone is in has had absolutely no effect on anything the MVC has done. The MVC has been and will continue to be "empire neutral".

Let me just say that it is good to see such a good selection of high quality candidates. There are clearly more than two people I would have liked to vote for. You should all be commended for stepping forward to take on the extra work.

I voted, have you?

Where do I go to get my "I voted" sticker? I fully expect, with all the attention to detail you guys have demonstrated, to have my choice of colors.

Maybe you can even have it added to the MV medals for a time.

Nice job all.

LostHeroTainted, please PM your vote to either Macmatt, MarshallONeil or myself. As mentioned what empire you're in doesn't matter. But the reason we're having the votes sent by PM instead of just posting them in the thread is that we don't want folks simply "jumping on the bandwagon" for whoever seems to be ahead (or behind or whatever). We will publish the complete results once the election is over but in the meantime who has the least or most votes is not public information. Also there are two MVC councilor positions open so please vote for two people. If neilo and Wyndstar are your choices then that's fine but we need to receive this in a PM not posted here.

If you're unsure of how to send a PM see my reply #13 of this thread. Thanks for your support, but please follow through and send the PM because your vote is important to us.

I don't think there will be any medals for voting although I do believe that your voting is at least as important as anything the council has done so far. Your vote does more than say which councilor you prefer, it says that you support the metaverse and the MVC's attempts at improving it for all. In the final analysis and with all due respect to our fine set of candidates, that's far more important than which of these candidates specifically gets elected.

BTW I haven't seen a vote from MyNickName01 cross my desk yet (and sooner or later they all do), please make sure to follow through and send that PM. If you have sent the PM then I assume it must have been to MarshallONeil because he hasn't checked in since this morning. If that's the case then I wouldn't worry but otherwise I do want to make sure we don't miss or otherwise lose any votes.

I have been responding to every vote that I've received, I'm fairly sure that Marshall has done so as well. I'm not sure about Macmatt but I'll get the word out that all votes should receive a reply. If you've voted and haven't received a reply please post that to this thread and I'll make sure we have a record of your vote.

MyNickName01's votes have been recieved, recorded, and responded to - which I have also been doing from the start.

Here's a copy of my voting sticker for you, MyNickName01. It has the HCH logo on it, because I figured you'd want the best.   It's also easy modify it using Paint and rehost it on imageshack if you want something else...

Thanks for the sticker MarshallOneil. I certainly didn't expect anything quite so stylish.

I hope the votes are pouring in.

Very nice Marshall Though my opinion is somewhat biased....

I hope the votes are pouring in.

Yes i agree. I hope that the response is overwhelming actually.

It would be great to see every one get involved in these elections, after all it's your Metaverse. Please vote if you have not already...
