Taking Requests

Customized Race Pictures, Movies and Logos

Some of you may have seen some of my customized sets of race pictures and movies in the library. If you are interested, I am taking requests for custom made race sets. You can email your request to [email protected]. Give me a description of what you would like to have made and I will do my best. I do have a few rules, however...

1. I am doing this for fun and for free - it takes a lot of time to make a set, so if you send a request, please be patient. Also, I have a job that is very time intensive and I may not have the spare time to do a set right away.

2. I won't do sets that infringe on copyright (that means no characters from TV shows/movies, other video games, etc.). Furthermore, I reserve the copyright on the images in the sets I create.

3. I reserve the right to refuse a request - I won't do a set that I think is obscene, offensive or tasteless.

4. I will post any sets that I create on the GalCiv2 website library - it is only fair to share with others in the community.

Thanks,
Formis

Hello,

As long as you're taking requests, I wouldn't mind a human-ish military space marine type of race set. Something along the lines of WH40k, Aliens, Starcraft, or any other sci-fi space marine type of thing, as far as inspiration goes. That might border a little close to infringement for you, but I thought I'd ask as it's at least a common idea that multiple copyrights share from. I don't have anything specific in mind, but all of the human sets seem like politicians, but sometimes it'd be nice to have a "warrior" caste to choose from.

Great work on your other sets by the way. Thankyou for sharing your talent.

I appreciate your offer. I really enjoy the packs you have done so far. If I think of something, I;ll be sure to drop you a line.

I am working on it for you Kodiak.

We all know what is needed. Space pirate captain (again, human-ish)!

None of the current portraits fit my current character's namesake.

(awesome work, btw!)

I'd love to see a humanoid rogue-type set. Could be actually human.

Think rouge-trader....unshaven...tough-looking....always looking to make a profit...keeping good relations with all races (unless sosmone pays them to do otherwise)

Thats how I generally play the game, so would be cool to have pictures to match.

Excellent. Thank you very much again for your contributions.

If you feel like blowing huge amounts of time, a crocodiloid race (ala the cows) would be wicked-cool! There are some neat traits you could mix-and-match: the dwarf caimans are colorful (brown irises, reddish heads), the false gharial is reddish all over, the black caiman has promient stripes (my avatar is a black caiman skull... I'm partial to caimans). There are some good 3d skull movies at www.digimorph.org. Anyway, if you have the time, that'd be really cool!

BTW: As a fan of reptiles and amphibians, I REALLY loved your Frogboy!

Thanks for the offer!

Jon

I would like to see non-humanoid aliens. You might find this site interesting for insperation. Orion's Arm

I am missing some really alien aliens - sometinhg completely non humanoid... floating clouds of gas coming to my mind, maybe with a vague resemblance to jellyfishes or calamares in shape...

Hey all...thanks for the great ideas. Kodiak - I have some interesting ideas for your Space Marines. I am also working on a full set of logos to go with. I am working a bear claw theme into the logos, to play off your screen name. I hope you will like them. Tsed and Jeremy - I actually was thinking about a space pirate/rogue race myself. I am putting together several sets with this theme. I am glad that others were thinking along the same lines. General Pants - Love the crocodilian idea...thanks for the color suggestions, those sorts of details help. I have just the thing in mind I think. TOV and Refar - I agree about the need for non-humanoid, truly alien races. I am happy to give them a shot. And by chance you happen to be in luck, because by profession I am actually an honest-to-goodness research biologist (I have the student loans to prove it). This means I can design an alien that is truly alien, but still biologically plausible. They should be a fun challenge. They might take a little longer to model, but what the hey. Also, Drengin made a suggestion for a robotic race, which I will try. I have started roughing out the space marine, pirate, rogue and crocodilian race sets. Progress has been slower because I was away this weekend and my laptop is a little underpowered for the hard-core modeling work, but I can rough things out anyway and polish them on the desktop at home. Finished products should be rolling out soon. Thanks again for the great ideas! This is fun.

I'm sure they'll be superb. Until they're released I'll wonder how you read my mind about the bear claw logos and such.     I can't wait to see what you come up with (for both my and the others' ideas). Thanks again.

You and me both friend. (the long school and related costs involved, not the science) My school related debts could feed several million starving children in Africa until they're 205 years old. Or at least support several third world country economies for
awhile.

Kodiak,

I am very nearly finished with the space marines. It is the most detailed set I have done thus far. Not only did make a custom race insignia, I made an entire set of space marine themed insignia. There is a "national" logo, five colors of "Space Marine Corps" logos, and a "Space Marine Corps" bumper-sticker style logo. All of theme have a bear theme incorporated. I also designed custom military rank insignias (for all officer and enlisted ranks), and a Martian landscape style MARPAT disruptive camo. The reason that I went into such detail is because I have made custom uniforms for the characters. I had to make more than one uniform design because I have gotten ambitious and I have decided to have figures working in the background behind the main character in the animations. This has been a reasonably challenging attempt (which is why it is taking so long...plus, work has been busy lately), and I hope that you will be pleased with the results. Since I went to the trouble of designing all of the extras logos, etc., I will probably include them as bonuses in the final race set when I post it. I plan on having the set finished and posted sometime tomorrow evening. After that, I am going to finish off the space-pirate/space rogue sets.

Great work.

The guy is younger and looks less 'battle hardened' (no scars or such) than i imagined, but the overall impressinon is quite militaristic and the details are very good.

Wow, top notch!

Just downloaded the set and looked through the files, and I'm more than pleased with the results. The quality and level of detail are well above and beyond what I had hoped for when I made the initial request, and this fits the bill almost too perfectly for what I had imagined. Very wonderful work, thank you for doing such a top notch job and taking the extra time for all of the added details and extras.

And thank you again for sharing all of the hard work and talent. I can't wait to see what else you come up with for the rogues, pirates, and other alien races. I'm sure they'll be equally as impressive. (and induce a regression of the "just one more turn" syndrome)

I'm off to play the game and stay up much too late instead of going over my notes from the day. (Yes, summer classes on top of godzilla tuition.)

That's why I only made him a colonel instead of a general

I will have to be more scruffy with the pirates and rogues!

Small world, huh? I bet my loans can beat your loans.

Can you do an Orochi type picture? Either from MTG or the actual 9-headed snake-god? Pretty please.

Tsed - I will probably be posting the completed space pirate sometime Saturday. I am nearly finished with him. With each new set I do, I try out some new technique for modeling/animating, and I tried some new animation techniques with the pirate, but they gave me some trouble - so it took longer than I expected.

Jeremy - Your rogues will probably be finished Saturday also. Notice the plural.

General Pants - Your caimanoid is up next. The details you provided were very helpful. I have some stuff roughed out - needs polish now. Are you a herpetologist? I'm a myrmecologist myself. You probably do win on the student loan end - I have all but one of mine paid off (hoorah).

TOV and Refar- your non-humanoids are on the menu...might take some time, but I didn't forget.

Drengin - Also didn't forget your robot race request.

I apologize for the slowness, but I don't like to do a rush job, and this is the height my research season, so I usually only get time on weekends - I promise to give all (reasonable) requests a shot.

Yay54 - I will have to think about your request. As I have stated, I don't do copyright infringement, so duplicating the MTG character is not on...however, the Yamata-no-Orochi is a part of traditional Japanese mythology, so the concept itself is not copyrighted. (The Japanese mythological creature only has 8 heads BTW.) I will probably do it, but no promises. I don't want to start straying into grey areas. Perhaps Kryo (if you are reading this thread) could give an opinion about the copyright issues in this request?

Well, due to some unfortunate computer issues at home, I haven't been unable to download your stuff as of yet, but I'm working on it.

Anyways, here's an idea (you may already have this though; again I haven't seen your work yet). A race of completely virtual beings, computer programs who exist only in their computer banks. While they don't have any bodies to speak of, they recognize the other races' need to communicate and interact with something they can perceive visually, so to this end they project holographic "beings", which are designed to look aesthetically pleasing to those they encounter. These forms aren't flashy or wild, so no crazy spikes coming out of their heads or anything, but they are trying to be appealing to multiple races, so they would (try to) have features common to all races. Also, these beings are obviously holographic, so their "skin" would be translucent and whatever you think would be "holographic" colors. Think Cortana of Halo. You could even have different color schemes that display peaceful or hostile intentions, depending upon your current relations with them.

Take it or leave it, and have fun with it.

Mythical creatures are fine. Even one inspired from MTG would probably be ok so long as you're making it from scratch yourself and calling it something else.

Let me know if you need anything (e-mail may be faster than the forum). One thing to consider: I noticed you like to armor your creations... crocodilians are, of course, already armored. My first thought was that it would be funny to just have them wear a loose-fitting tunic, but that seemed a little silly. Maybe their spacesuits or whatever could reflect the underlying scalation? Or they could skip conventional clothing, and have something else, like a utility harness, with rank insignia painted directly on their hide, and armored caps covering the larger scales. On the other hand, that also might look very silly.

Are you a herpetologist? I'm a myrmecologist myself. You probably do win on the student loan end - I have all but one of mine paid off (hoorah).

I do herps and paleoherps. Mostly caimans these days, but I've worked a little with dinos, and have a passing familiarity with turtles and amphibians. Must be nice being gainfully employed and all that. GC2 is my "me time" away from my dissertation.

So then, your handle is a somewhat oblique reference to your study animal? Buggies are cool; we've got some folks who do ecological work on fungus-farmers here. It's a little out of my scope, but they are great people.

Thanks again!

How about a crystalline race? It doesn't even have to possess limbs, it could just be a big floating spikey ball of crystals (kinda like from an episode of ST:TNG that had crystal aliens that lived on a sandy planet), or they could be insectoid in appearance. Let your imagination run wild

I think its great what your doing here, bravo!

Perhaps a creature that resembles an Archon/Dark Archon from starcraft universe. Just don't call it an archon.

What about a crude and unrefined race. Perhaps something that looks like an orc. You could make it look like Lurtz.
