It's the Economy Stupid!

It's the Economy Stupid!

I've just started playing DA, the first stardock game I've ever played, and so far I'm really not sure I understand the economic system at all.

I'm used to playing Paradox games (Victoria:Revolutions, HoI2:Doomsday, EU2 etc) so I think I' need a fundamental change in understanding to overcome Paradoxian habits.

For instance, what is the relationship between the sliders in the overall Economy screen, and the distribution of shields and hammers and so on in each planet screen, understanding eludes me. And how do you find out what kind of builds correspond to what catagories (I think colony ships count as military, not sure what social is, maybe just populatiion growth modifier? I'm guessing funding speeds up research).

Any help appreciated.

ok, maybe this will explain what i mean...

Economy levels
Fool: 10%
Beginner: 25%
Sub-normal: 50%
normal: 75%
Bright: 100%
intelligent: 100% + human tactic are now involved
(this is were the AI's get the upper hand)
Genius: 125%
Incredible: 200%

also when playing 'dread lords on parade' the dread lord get a 500% economy boost! alarming to think that we finish these guys of in less than 3 years.

Having bonus's and extra cash like the AI does from painful and above does not translate into the AI having the upper hand. They have a head start, yes. They are in better shape for about the first year, yes. None of this is insurmountable though.

After about a year most players will have forged ahead of the AI and their starting bonus's now amount to nothing. No "upper hand" by any means. Remember no good can come from generalizing in your posts. Ones' experience's are very different from others.

Now before you once again accuse me of harassing you, try and see i'm just trying to point out that you need to see the game from a wider perspective and not just your games, and that perhaps you might want to post accordingly.

It's a free world after all, so do as you wish.

what i just wrote down was straight out of the user manual.

and the 200% thing isnt the starting money, it's the AI's weekly income. by the way, that last comment " alarming to think that we finish these guys of in less than 3 years" was a compliment.

we havent got of to a really good start you and i neilo.

ok lets start over. Hi i'm LostHero, i bought the game 1 year ago and since then have modded my game to look like book series "Saga of the Seven Suns". i recently got broadband and have made an account, and empire and quite a few friends. at the moment i'm working on that screenshot you asked me to get and i'm helping a friend of mine get onto the metaverse. i have put up two posts both waiting to be aproved, one is called 'Arnor MOD' and the other 'The Elite Ship Chassis'. i'm 16 male, and have a vast knowledge about computer programing.

now tell me bout yourself.

Ps. (under my name were is says evil, ignore it, it came up when stared my account)

Love the attitude!

And you are correct, but starting advantage does not equal "upper hand".

Yes i understand that, but from i think crippling (might be wrong where) and up the AI gets a boost in the starting cash too. Around 8000 i believe right up to 10,000 on the hardest levels. Again i'm not sure where the bonus is and how much, but thats what i was referring to.

No, i think EvilStormbringer has rubbed off on me.

Nice to see another seven suns fan. I too have done some modding, i have a Cylon conversion that i am toying with, and i am just starting to get some xml stuff done on a total stargate conversion. Just doing the races at the moment, wish i could do some 3D modeling, but nevertheless the race mods alone will make the mod quite different from the vanilla game.

I've got to be honest. I remain skeptical about the "suicidal wall tactic", but like i said, i am more than prepared to eat my words if this proves to work.

Great attitude and lets move on.....

PS. What's wrong with being evil? i love nothing more than belting the Terrans and the like into oblivion

I've only read Hidden Empire, Forest of Stars and Horizon Storms. I have not got the next two yet. I Hear number six is out soon.....I should really catch up.

i always played neutral in DL, but Da has changed the terraforming so much it is no longer worth it. Plus i tend to go to war very early now, in the first year at least, so having evil weapons gives a huge boost.
