New bugfix version, when saving and reloading a map, is available

@MrKorx
Thanks very much, I like playing around with editing maps on the laptop at work, heheh.

EDIT: Sorry I posted here and not on the I-Mod site. Any future problems I will put there in bug reporting area.

I was in the middle of downloading galciv from stardock and decided to install the map editor while waiting. I installed DA shortly after the map editor, from my CD.

However when I go to the map editor itself, I see no option to set a map or tick the box for a DA scenario or custom map. I have tried repair install and then eventually uninstalling through windows and reinstalling the editor but I assume its stored a registry entry somewhere on my computer, saying DA not installed.

As I installed the map editor before DA initially, is there anyway to update the program to recognise it or delete the registry keys causing this mess.

I should add, any option to set DA's path in settings is greyed out and unselectable, the tick box is unclickable.

Thanks in advance.

Well i've gone ahead and deleted all references to Galciv2IDE using REGedit, now it seems I can't even get the installer to run. It gets right to the end of the loading bar, 'extracting' etc and then comes up with:

The configuration data for this product is corrupt, contact your support personnel.

It was a gamble but surely deleting all its references shouldn't have any effect if the product has been uninstalled? Bizarre it leaves any registry keys behind anyway...

Again i'm at the stage of asking what registry keys need deleting to clean my OS of this program please.
Reply #130 Top
Well, the GalCiv2IDE DOES NOT write into registry! It just reads the install paths.
Any other reference to my tool in registry is win autocreated.
What you can do, switch on hidden files/folders, and look for any reference in your home directory's(your username) subfolders (eg. [win-drive]:\documents and settings\username\local settings\applicationdata\I-Mod-Productions) and delete the i-mod folder, if it exists.
I'm sorry, that is all I can say, but you might even screwed your win by "wildstyle" deleting records from registry.

Don't worry, I just rolled back the registry to when it was first installed, no need to apologize, regedit is always a bit risky when your going in somewhat blind.

I can't believe I had not set 'view hidden files' back on, since my last format. Deleting that hidden directory did the trick. You might want to make sure all of that directory is being deleted when the program is uninstalled.

One bug out of all this then to report:

The program needs to be able to recheck if an addon or expansion has been installed since the editor was.

I would imagine this will be of consequence for a few people, come the next official expansion.

Don't worry about the game setup... I completely revised the underlying detection resulting in nice class Just be patient please, the next relese will bring some big changes and will be most probably TA compatible, however there's still much to do.

I have a question.

How does the map editor handle Asteroid fields?
Reply #134 Top
What do you mean by handle asteroidfields?
Reply #135 Top

Kryo, another question appears, how is the naming convention for the localized game version, ie for german:

Path=..\Data\German\german.str ?

It'd be German\english.str (the string file is always named english).

End of quote

just a quick question: Is there an "offical" german translation and can you download it?

Mr. Korx,

I found the line for adding Asteroid fiels on a DA map.

But Another question pops up. After I set up basic planetarty data to a star system, how do I get the custom planet data to work with the map? For instance I add in the Sol system and call one of the planets "Earth", then how do I get the earth to show up in game in stead of a random planet texture?
Reply #138 Top
@Flash
As far as I know, customplanets have been deactivated in DA/TA maps, so you won't be able to setup eg. Sol system. Maybe it gets activated again in TA?!
If it is already activated, maybe Kryo can jump in then by answering.

@Greivous

Just run setup.exe and start any editor, if you got problems with setup, let me know.

I'm sorry, since I do not use vista nor I will, the GalCiv2IDE sometimes run on vista and sometimes not. My guess would be lowering/turn off the systemrestictions in UAV.

Great tool guys  :CONGRAT:

One thing that has always bugged me is that I had to generate several maps before I got one that I found .. er .. 'interesting' enough to play.
Now with a little bit of manual editing I can whoop up custom-maps in a mater of minutes :)

edit:
not sure how it will save, but it doesnt seem to like you calling stars "star" or planets "planet" as it seems to mess up the linking of planets to stars, at least thats how it shows in the editor ..
Do love the fact that 'not' naming a newly placed system gives it names :)

also, when you look at the saved map (in notepad) than instead of [enter] it has cubes, paste the data to Word than back to notepad, solves that.

Does anyone know if GalCiv2IDE may be downloaded from another site? I am unable to download it from I-Mod Productions, as download randomly freezes and gets me an incomplete, corrupted file :'(

Reply #145 Top

Uhm no, there is no other place to download.

Just leave me your email via PM and I#ll send it to you.

Reply #146 Top

Does this not handle maps larger than a certain size?  I'm trying to open certain maps, and the one's with a lot of planets (450+ or so) aren't loading.

how do you get a 'special login-password' to download this ide editor, or do you need to pay for it?  just curious, because I've got a few ideas for mods, and from what I've been able to find out on the i-mod site so far, it sounds like it would make my life a lot easier.

On a note about the editor, working with it will probably answer my question, but does it let you also set up weapons that can change variables during the combat screens -- i.e., the variables for each enemy ship that it uses for shields, beam weapons, armor, mass drivers, missiles, point defenses that it uses each cycle of opponent attacks, your attacks?

If not, does anyone happen to know what the variables are in DL?  I have an idea for a few mod weapons that might give us some tactical abilities, and one defense that would use changing those values to help your defense -- shutting down their weapons in effect.

Reply #149 Top

You do not need to pay for it: you just need to sign up @ MrKorx's site, i-Mod, and talk to him about the mod. I have not done the process personally, but he should give you whatever it is you need if you promise to tell him about bugs & stuff.

I sent you a PM at i-mod.

Unfortunately, I had to delay public access, due to heavy work at office. No time left at the moment.

One note, the IDE does not have a gc2types editor, since all editors in the IDE are meant to be supplementary to the offical SD editors, available with TA.

If I get you right, what you want is not possible, once defined values for weapons/defenses you cannot alter these xml based values when the game is running.
