GalCiv II : DA vs DL questions

help!

Hi, After looking for a game like this for sometime and seeing the good reviews this game has recieved I thought I would pick up a copy.

I am however a little overwelmed. I would like to start off with the Dreadlords campaign but am a little concerned at how much it differs from the expantion in the way of content and new features.

So I guess my question is, if I start the Dreadlord campaign will it have the features implemented with Dark Avataar? (new graphics, asteroid mining, tech requirements for colonisation ect) and if not, where would you recommend a complete noob starts Should I just jump straight into dark avataar?

One more thing, I currently do not have the internet at home where the game is installed, and I cant seem to find anywhere to manually download and apply the latest patch. The only one I can find on the main sight is only version 1.40x Does this mean I cannot get 1.50x? If thats the case I will be extremely dissapointed.

Thanks

Oh and when all the stars and planets came from nowhere, there were also a few other rases like about 3 or 4 of them that tried to settle a planet; but I got them; but I had everythig set to normal and small uni, U think it was a glitch? Or maybe my XPS M1710 wth 2GB ram got too hot from playng over 3 days with only taking piss breaks, rofl, well I did get about 3 hours sleep after the first 48 stright:)

There is an event that can randomly raise the PQ of all uncolonized planets in an area. That is what you experienced.

it would not even let me attack it at all my ships just sat there in orbit

Your troop ships were actually *in orbit* of the planet without having captured it? Are you sure they did not just build a defense ship, and you were then unable to invade further with unarmed transports?

but I would like to hvae see what the cutural vic looked like in the end game.

The Cultural victory is when you have influence control of 75% or more of the map for ten turns and that victory condition enabled of course. The Cultural Conquest Tech is just the end of that Tech line.

I don't think the PQ was raised; because planets appeared where there were none before; because where there were for instance only 3 planets 2 more showed up and they as the 3 that were there all went up past 12's, and all 9 suns had 5 worlds each above 12's most 26's. There was no ships in orbit and it was kind of early in the game too less then 10 years on a tiny map, I only had 2 other civis enabled tarens and one other ; but then when I killed off all but the terans is when there were stars apearing in every quadrent with 5 planets each more 26's then not and there were NO zeros and none less then a 12. Before that one or 2 quadrents didn't have any sun at all. All the worlds just apearead from nowhere. I did find out that you can only have so many ships in orbit around the planet before it says it is full; because I had every planet like that and I was sending everything I could at the terans and with no ships in orbit it would not let me attack. I also sent support ships with big guns and nada I don't know why I could not attack them. Then it started happening with one of teh civis that showed up on a world and just showing up like that I don't see how they could have had anythng to stop me what will their just showing up one second and my attacking the next. In all it was a 20 year game and I still had to go for the techinal victory; because the tarens started attacking me and then so did the other civie that just jumped in. Let me know if you want to see the screen shot. Maybe I will post it on my site here

After updateing the game (sucessfully this time) from 1.40 to 1.50 I went back into a saved game of the one where I could not attack the terrans and guess what? Yet I was able to not only attack them but win that game by millitary conquest. so I guess I was right in guessing tha that it wouldn't let me attack them when there was nothing in orbit
