General Homsar's "Whine and Rant" Board!

Need to blow off some steam, but don't think mass genocide of Torians will do the trick?Don't worry, because this is the board for you! Here's my rant: That hundreds of monumentally stupid lawsuits pop up every day, and some even make it to court. For example: Filing HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS against hair salons that charge more for women's hair-cuts.

Huh? Clubs and bars are full of people that whine and rant! So a whine and rant thread here is perfectly fine too.

It is just the nasty fighting we don't want.

agreed. 'Tis a shame it got out of hand. It was a fairly fun thread for a while.

Oh yes, with the Airus, I'll conceede that I had my numbers mixed up. My apologies. I still figure that its prolly more efficent that a Ford Monstrosity (lol).

Speaking of efficiency, i have allot of complaints about the public transport here in Sydney Australia!

Primarily it is simply too expensive... i find it amazing that it is actually cheaper to run a small car than to use public transport and that should not be the case.

then to add insult to injury, the government has been busy making bus lanes, bus lights and even bus only turnoff lanes! oh and they have been banning vehicle access to train stations to make way for buses as well. If you want to pick somone up from the station, they have to walk half a kilometer down the road, it makes me sick!

All this wouldn't be so bad if busses and trains weren't so damb expensive!!!

Oh and for anyone who is thinking that buses are at least better for the environment, let me just point out that the basted greedy bus companies are currently moving to ban bicycles from using bus lanes. Bicycles of course being even more environmentally freindly than busses!

sorry i forgot some more dastedly deeds of busses here in Sydney... they have a special give way sign on the back which gives them the right to run you off the road whenever they feel like it. A couple of times i have seen buses pull out in front of ambulences on an emergency!

I hate busses, their taking so much privaledges everywhare and then stiffing us in return with super high prices... thanks for nothing you sun of b-----s busses.

Here's my friggin rant! I am tired of everyone I come across using lame excuses for not doing their job well or even properly for that matter, and no, this isn't picking on software developers specifically, this is aimed at ALL of those who claim to know their job, who claim to do their job, yet don't. To all of those who say, "why should I care", or "what's in it for me", or "let him worry about it"...
Never have I seen such a level of laziness and incompetence. There was a time when customer service meant something... it was the lifeblood of how business operated. People realized that without the customer their business would flounder. Now however, it seems all of that means nothing. Consumers are just stupid cattle to be herded to different parts of the pasture to consume different products. Yet those of you who enjoy the fruits of our fortunes continue to view us as such, while sipping your exotic little umbrella drinks on a white, pristine beach under a cloudless sky... not actually aware that you have your spoils thanks to us, the cattle, the herd.
So to all of you lazy snots, be it programmers, architects, cooks, mechanics, salespeople... all of you who cannot or will not do your job to the best of your God given ability... I say choke... choke on the spittle that fills your mouth every time you go to speak of all the excuses that make up the reasoning behind your inability to do your job!!!!!!!!

Damn, I was having fun reading this thread, then someone had to bring up driving. Now I feel a rant of my own boiling in my stomach.

Rant: When the fork did people start thinking of a driver's license as a RIGHT rather than the PRIVILEGE it is.

And what the hell is with the lop-sided age restrictions. For good reasons we have age restrictions on how old you must be before you can begin driving; why is it so wrong to apply this same reasoning and advocate age restrictions on when one should no longer have the privilege of driving. Yet year after year, we hear the same stories about an elderly person killing several people because they confused the gas pedal with the break pedal. We should respect our elders, but that respect should not extend to allowing them privileges and responsibilities that they are no longer capable of exercising with safety and reason.

It's the same way in Seattle, WA; they don't even bother looking before merging, and why should they when they are legally immune to the consequences. Un-damned-believable.

ONE MORE THING: Also in Seattle. Apparently that city uses special magic paint for their cross-walks; no where else have I seen pedestrians who think that two white lines will somehow mystically prevent a car just 20 ft away and traveling at 50mph from coming into contact with them. And somehow it's my damn fault the lemmings don't look both ways before crossing.

EDIT:Sorry for the double post. I thought for sure someone would have another rant before I.

Al Gore talks about Global warming..... I am sure he flies around in his Lear Jet which puts out way more CO2 in one trip than my POS car will in a year. Liberal hippocrits

Denyasis said...
Well I don't knnow about Lear, but I do know that the Airbus A380, The LARGEST commerical jet ever, does about 8mpg (8000mi range, 1000gal tank). Compared to the very popular Trucks and SUV's in the US, it actually beats some of them(I've seen some fords boast 7 city, 12 highway). Add the fact that you can't fit 500 - 800 people in your Explorer, and suddenly it seems much less hypocritical.

What is much less Hypocritical? Al Gore?

Ajax said...
Dude sorry to burst your bubble but the A380 actually holds 80,000 gallons of fuel, and probably uses about 1000 gallons of fuel to just get off the ground. Per passenger mile its probably fairly efficient (too lazy to do the math). Hmm lets see 10 gallons to the mile divided by most efficient passenger load of 800, lets call it .125 of a gallon per passenger mile. Not bad but definately not 8 miles per vehicle mile. The new boeing should get about twice the gas mileage.

Ok, so let me get this straight, Al Gore flies around in a Lear Jet, which is actually a Gulf Stream G500 series, which has nothing on the new Airbus 380 which has a 80,000 gallon fuel tank and gets about 10 gallons per Mile. So basically it can transport 500 to 800 people and only use 10 gallons of fuel per mile, not to mention mail and any other cargo it will carry during said trip. Not to shabby. So lets go from coast to coast and say the trip will be 3000 miles and they will transport the maximum 800 people. It will use approximately 30,000 gallons of fuel. Math time. 3000 miles divided by 800 people is 3.75 miles per person. Multiplied by 10 gallons per mile gives you 37.5 gallons per person. At $2.50 a gallon that comes to an air fair of roughly $93.75. My 99' Honda Civic gets 36 miles per gallon. If I put 37.5 gallons in it will take me 1350 miles. Almost half the distance the Airbus will travel on the same amount of fuel per person. In addition, it would take me 2 or so days to travel half the distance, while the Airbus would do the entire trip in about 5 hours, give or take.

This will put carbon monoxide into the atmosphere no doubt but would it be more or less than having 800 vehicles traveling 3000 miles cross country, up and down mountains and such? Not sure.
The point I am trying to make here is that Al Gore is just one person. He talks a big game about global warming but flies around in a Gulf Stream 5. If your interested, look up the plane, it is rather large and is not some little ole Lear Jet. Sure he says he buys Carbon Off Sets. What the hell is that? Al Gore is a chump. Anyway, I think my point is made.

and there is a medical scanner that nasa invented to check shuttle screws on the landing gear

Now I am really confused. A medical scanner that was invented to look at screws on landing gear for the shuttle? What is next, medicating the shuttle with percocet or something? Sorry but I would really like to understand fully, what exactly was meant by what was said.

If everyone did their jobs to the best of their abilities then most companies could probably be able cut their staffing levels in half and who the hell want's that to happen??

We should respect our elders, but that respect should not extend to allowing them privileges and responsibilities that they are no longer capable of exercising with safety and reason.

The problem lies with the inability to properly monitor age affected driving skill. It is probably impossible to solve completely, because everyone is different and affected by age in different ways.

nasa invented a scanning devise to look at the landing gear to make sure everything was tight enough and in the right place.

that scanner is now being used in hospitals and we call it a cat scanner

maybe what we should do is make everyone go in and get their eyes tested every other time you renew instead of send us 20 and your renewed

by the way my father is one of those who can't see to drive and does whenever i am not capable of taking him some where when he wants to go

Here in Australia you have an eye test whenever you renew your licence, also people over a certain age must perform a driving competency test - actual driving that is.

Does this prevent old people from having accidents? The answer is NO but i'm sure it would help somewhat.

Often old people here in Australia who loose their licence due to incompetency, simply forget one day and go driving again! I have encountered a few of these myself... and i have to say that i would prefer sharing the road with somone who was stone drunk!

do i ever have some funny stories about old drivers!! hehehe

The first commercially viable CT system was invented by Godfrey Newbold Hounsfield in Hayes, England at THORN EMI Central Research Laboratories using X-rays. Hounsfield conceived his idea in 1967, and it was publicly announced in 1972. It is claimed that the CT scanner was "the greatest legacy" of the Beatles; the massive profits from their record sales enabled EMI to fund scientific research.[1] Allan McLeod Cormack of Tufts University independently invented a similar process and they shared a Nobel Prize in medicine in 1979.

CT was discovered independently by a British engineer named Sir Godfrey Hounsfield and Dr. Alan Cormack. It has become a mainstay for diagnosing medical diseases. For their work, Hounsfield and Cormack were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in 1979.

CT scanners first began to be installed in 1974. Currently, 6,000 scanners are in use in the United States. Because of advances in computer technology, CT scanners have vastly improved patient comfort because they are now much faster. These improvements have also led to higher-resolution images, which improve the diagnostic capabilities of the test. For example, the CT scan can show doctors small nodules or tumors, which they cannot see on an x-ray.

you better check your sources there were two people who invented the ct scanner independently of each other and they both got the nobel prize

Body Imaging

Apollo research spawned new medical and diagnostic tools

The high-tech art of digital signal processing (DSP) was pioneered at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in the mid-196Os for use in the Apollo Lunar Landing Program. Designed to computer-enhance pictures of the moon, this technology became the basis for the Landsat Earth resources satellites and subsequently has been incorporated into a broad range of Earthbound medical and diagnostic tools.

DSP is employed in advanced body imaging techniques including computer-aided tomography, also known as CT and CATScan, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). CT images are collected by irradiating a thin slice in the body with a fan-shaped x-ray beam from a number of directions around the body's perimeter. A tomographic (slice-like) picture is reconstructed from these multiple views by a computer. MRI employs a magnetic field and radio waves to create images, rather than x-rays. The resultant MRI and CT images are often complementary. In most cases, MRI is useful for viewing soft tissue but not bone, while CT images are good for bone but not always for soft tissue discrimination.

Physicians and engineers in the Department of Radiology at the University of Michigan Hospitals, Ann Arbor, Michigan, are developing a method for combining the best features of MRI and CT scans to increase the accuracy of discriminating one type of body tissue from another. one of their research tools is a computer program originally developed to distinguish Earth surface features in Landsat image processing. Called HICAP, the program can be used to distinguish between healthy and diseased tissue in body images.

At top is a CT image of a slice of human liver with many lesions. It was analyzed and processed by HICAP to produce the image at bottom, in which the false-color red areas represent regions of a normal liver. Consecutive liver slices can be processed in this manner to produce a three-dimensional view of the liver.

HICAP was supplied to the Department of Radiology by NASA's Computer Software Management and Information Center (COSMIC*). Located at the University of Georgia, COSMIC makes available to the private sector government-developed computer programs that have commercial applications.

and since apollo came 10 years before the actual invention of the ct scanner and the two men got the idea from this scanner

i never said that they took the same device and used it for medical device i said that nasa invented the devise that became the ct scanner
